Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine benefits weight training

glucosamine

Avatar m tn As Ellen said, Glucosamine is good but it may take 4-6 weeks to see any benefits. Check with your Vet on the dose. Anti-inflammatories are often used but one may work better than another. Watch kidney/liver function on these meds.an orthopedic bed is a good idea. There is something called a hip hammock that can be very beneficial for a dysplastic dog. Of course, there is always some type of surgery which can be extensive and expensive.
Avatar m tn When I was in the process of losing my 70 lbs, at a certain point I added weight-training. I did NOT stall weight loss, nor did I temporarily GAIN weight. I cringe when people say that they do.... Weight-training is absolutely essential. GO FOR IT!
Avatar m tn Do you think that I should implement a mild weight training routine as well? I was thinking about doing some weight training 3 days a week? Is that enough or too much? This 3 day weight training routine would be in addition to my cardio 6 days a week. I will in no way shape or form compromise doing less days of cardio to do weight training (especially since what I am doing is working), so all of this will be in addition to my original cardio.
550943 tn?1330727580 Does anyone know of a good source of information i can get a hold of for continuing weight training during the first trimester of pregnancy? I know there are benefits and want to do it properly. Background: I want to TTC again after my miscarriage and I am currently walking five days a week and weight training three days a week.
Avatar n tn ive been giving my dog which is 17kg 1000mg of glucosamine every day for a week which i will now reduce to 500mg a day is there any thing else i should give him with this or is glucosamine alone ok my dog has early signs of arthritis in his back legs its a bit of an effort for him to get up now he is 10 yrs 3mths old and had cruciate ligament surgery back in may last yr and in the other leg about 5 to 6 yrs ago
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
Avatar f tn Benefits Hips and Knees, Di Gu Pi, Loranthus Combination and more. Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatories, such as Rimadyl, or Previcox or equivalent, and Tramadol are helpful in conjunction with holistic therapies.
Avatar f tn MRI says- severe bone bruising and bleeding, micro fractures of tibia, 2 complex menus all tears-anterior and posterior, grade2-3 cartilage thinning, fluid above knee and in knee behind patella, bathers cyst, ligament strain, some bone growth and early osteoarthritis. What the hell do I do- I am thinking lose weight, swim, take chondritin, glucosamine, vitamin c, see a knee surgeon... what I DONt want is a knee replacement. It is a bit stiff, swollen and aches.
Avatar n tn You would be looking at 500mg Glucosamine for every 30lbs body weight (approx) and 200mg Chondrotin also for every 30lbs body weight. That would be the max. dose. My dog (28lbs approx.) had that dose and it really made a definite difference to her. In damp weather she would limp ever so slightly now and again (she once years ago had a broken leg) Within a week of giving her the Glucosamine/Chondroitin, she stopped limping and never ever did so again the rest of her life.
Avatar f tn Embrace how you look and love it, I know I miss my lanky days from time to time. You can do some weight training to gain muscle (much better for you than gaining fat), takes persistency to see the results but it's really worth it and has lots of benefits!
Avatar f tn Many people find that they cannot lose weight by means of exercise alone. Exercise has many benefits, but weight loss may not be among them. In fact, strenuous exercise can even make it harder to lose weight, for many people. (I keep saying "many people," because it's highly individualized.) Diet, for many people, is much more important for weight loss than exercise is.
1587585 tn?1309432260 I hurt my left knee yesterday doing side lunges and although I can walk on it, I'm limping a bit to keep the weight off of it. I'm pretty sure it's sore due to overuse and the fact that I weigh 235 lbs. I have it wrapped, took some Motrin, and iced it. It's the same knee I dislocated twice about 6 years ago. I took some Excedrin Back and Body and a muscle relaxer before bed. I slept with a pillow under my knee and tried not to move around a whole lot.
1016618 tn?1420553262 Went and filed for VA Medical benefits today. They said I make to much money but they also said I could file for help cause I was a veteran of the Vietnam era. I was in the Marine Corps from 1972 to 1975. Anyone get any assistance from the VA that is under like circustance?
Avatar f tn Labrador retrievers are one of the breeds that are known to have adverse reactions to rimadyl, and sometimes the benefits just do not outweigh the risks in something like this. What you CAN do is to start giving him a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement. These have been proven to be of great help to arthritic dogs with an occasional dose of enteric coated aspirin to help them over the rough spots. Please let us know what your vet says.
Avatar m tn Be careful with sports drinks, the might help you gain weight but they contain either a lot of fat and sugar or harmful sugar substitutes and lots of artificial ingredients that can be harmful as well. Eating added protein in your meals and weight training will add muscle, but if you just want to gain any kind of weight eat a lot of simple carbs. They will turn quickly to sugar and add fat to your body and are unhealthy, but you will gain weight.
6036178 tn?1378539162 I am not a doctor and really don't completely understand the dynamics of the heart but it could be the weight training is putting a strain on the heart or the muscles surrounding it and the ibuprofen helps alleviate the strained muscles. That said, I am not sure it is good for you to take ibuprofen everyday. I wonder if there is a healthier alternative like how Glucosamine + Chondroitin help the joints there has got to be something natural that helps muscle inflammation I would think.
558059 tn?1288550944 That sounds like more or less the right dosage for her weight. I think it's best to keep on with giving her the Glucosamine/Chondrotin. It certainly won't do her any harm. It is basically a natural product, extracted from shellfish, so it isn't harmful. It could be that it'll take a while to really kick in. Dogs are like people. Some respond quicker to medication like this, some slower and more gradually. But I would definitely keep her on them.
Avatar n tn Rest about 30 sec and do a few more-- even just 2 at maximum weight. Rest than do even just one more. By now (if you are using enough weight) your muscle should be screaming. Eat protein within 1/2 hour of lifting. Drink a lot of water to flush the lactic acid out of the muscle. Then rest the next day, or work a different muscle group. Always let the muscles worked have a day to recover, or you'll just breakdown what you build up.
Avatar f tn Don't know enough about you to say. If your pain and limitations are your main problem, a physical therapist. If you're doing well and you can do what you want to do without pain, either do whatever you want to do for exercise or if you really want to see a personal trainer.
Avatar f tn Weight loss is the primary measurement of diet and exercise routines. It's not uncommon to lose inches and not lose weight, especially in early stages of a weight loss routine. When you lose weight you will most often experience a loss of inches. The loss of weight and inches is determined by your body composition. An increase in muscle mass will shrink the body, but it takes more fat to equal a pound of muscle.
