glucosamine

Avatar m tn 21century, product: k9 maximum joint health). At my work (agriculture supplies) we have a formula for horses. 50ml dose Glucosamine is HCI (10,000mg) Chondroitin is shark cartilage (1,000mg) MSM (2,000mg) Boswellia (4,000mg) Yucca (500mg) a one liter bottle is $40 and would last almost a year at 750mg glucosamine doses. My question is can I use this for my dog, are the supplement ratios okay?
441382 tn?1452810569 s OK to use a glucosamine with chondroitin product that you can buy OTC from the grocery or health food store, what would the dosage be for a 50 pound dog? I posted this to the Expert Forum but when I went back to see if I had a response I couldn't even find my post! LOL So I decided to re-post it here where I know how to find it again so I can actually read the responses I get!
Avatar f tn Hi,does anyone know what dose of glucosamine & chondroitin i should give my 7yr old border collie,he is getting very stiff in his hind leg when getting up(old injury when he was 1yr old) but once he gets going he is still as fit & active as ever.
Avatar n tn It's OK to give "human" grade Glucosamine and Chondroitin to dogs. But you seriously need to watch out for any additives in the capsules or tablets. Artificial sweeteners, Xylitol, sugars, or any other additives, and I would say no -don't give them that stuff. Toxic for them. However, the basic Glucosamine/Chondroitin is EXACTLY the same substance whether for humans or dogs. The difference is -the price. My vet told me that.
1110049 tn?1409402144 Glucosamine is commonly taken in combination with chondroitin, a glycosaminoglycan derived from articular cartilage. Use of complementary therapies, including glucosamine, is common in patients with osteoarthritis, and may allow for reduced doses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
Avatar f tn Yes I am currently giving her 750 mg glucosamine + 600 mg chondroitin + 500 mg MSM, but it still doesn't seem to help. I am going to look into the adequan injections. Thank You so much!
Avatar f tn Do you take any supplements such at Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM? They work great for me. As long as I take them every single day. My bones/joints would get so back I could barely walk, and I could tell if it was going to rain anytime soon because they would hurt even more! The Glucosamine really helped! Also a good calcium supplement. If these thinks don't help over a few week period I'd talk to your Primary Dr. about other possibilities. Good luck, I hope this helped!
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar n tn t do any harm is to start her on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. This really works, and is completely natural. (if the arthritis is not TOO bad, the Glucosamine/Chondroitin can work wonders) You could ask your vet's advice about this, and about the correct dosage (I would give her the maximum for her weight.) But ask advice first.
Avatar m tn Oh I am so sorry, both that you lost your well-loved Terrier, and that your Dalmation has taken it so badly. Grief and missing a loved companion is natural in dogs, but I can understand why you are worried, when it has this effect. Yes, depression can cause physical decline, but even an old dog who has got sad and down, that she feels her age, and has aches and pains, can maybe be cheered up. I don't really know about how wise it would be to get another dog in.
5591135 tn?1380168056 its basically just chondroitin/glucosamine. I will post the supplement and brand cat people use as a much cheaper alternative. I buy from iherb b/c they sell the Natural Factors brand which is FREE of all artificial preservatives, color and sweetners, also NO corn, dairy, soy, wheat or yeast. 1/3 of a capsule would be the same as a full capsule of cosequin. http://www.iherb.com/Natural-Factors-Glucosamine-Chondroitin-Sulfates-900-mg-120-Capsules/2591?
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. If the Baker's cyst is restricting movement it may need to be surgically corrected. For the arthritis conservative measures are weight loss, rest, ice, canes, bracing, physical therapy. etc. Also, nutrition supply should be considered, with chondroprotective agents (glucosamine & chondroitin phosphate, MSM, Omega-3). Glucosamine and chondroitin phosphate are unlikely to cause any drug to drug interactions with your other medications.
Avatar n tn Glucosamine and chondroitin are very good for joint health...even better if you can find a combination with MSM in it. I have never heard any negative things about it or interactions with any meds. Always check with your local pharmacist if concerned about any interactions with supplements, herbs and meds.
Avatar f tn I was on twice a day anti-inflammatory salve (diclofenac) for my knuckles for a year, and then tried chondroitin and glucosamine capsules [based on my finding an excellent double blind study testing them against a placebo].
Avatar m tn Hi. Supplements to a dog's diet such as Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate, Omega Fatty Acids, Vitamin E, Selenium, and MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) all assist in decreasing inflammation and improving the body's ability to repair and strengthen tissues. Supplements, however, will not reverse structural changes in a joint such as torn cartilage, calcium deposits and advanced scar tissue.
Avatar f tn Firstly you could start him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement. It really does help. You hear that the dog has to have taken it for a few weeks for there to be any noticeable change, but I have found it can take effect quicker than that. To give you an idea of dosage, my dog weighs 28lbs and I give her 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin daily. If his weight is twice hers, or approximately, you can give double that dose.
Avatar f tn Something similar is a glucosamine/chondroitin combination. Again, be sure it's formulated for cats. In humans, both the avocado-soybean unsaponifiables approach and the glucosamine/chondroitin approach seem to have about equal effectiveness. While talking to the vet, also check about prednisolone is not being considered. It's a steroid and often given to dogs, maybe it's not done that much in cats? But it reduces inflammation.
Avatar m tn s fish oil with enhanced DHA and EPA (15 grams daily), megadose vitamin E, and megadose glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM daily for anti inflammatory effects for my joint and tendon problems. I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream. I have heard anecdotally that the cream format increases bio-availability by a staggering amount and that the oral supplement is essentially a snake oil product.
1295500 tn?1272459927 Glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM are good supplements for maintaining joint health, but they are not curative substances. Your dog could be suffering anything from simple arthritis; to hip dysplasia; to a pulled muscle, tendon or ligament; to a ruptured spinal disc; a tumor or cyst in a bad place; or any number of other issues. She's obviously in pain, so get her to the vet as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn Glucosamine/ Chondroitin/ MSM is generally used when there is suspected arthritis. The supplement is used to help the body make more cartilage, and to reduce pain; in the knee for example. There is controversy as to how helpful this supplement is in improving arthritic knee pain, but some patients do report benefit with long-term use.
