Glucosamine in weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine in weight loss

glucosamine

Avatar m tn For the arthritis conservative measures are weight loss, rest, ice, canes, bracing, physical therapy. etc. Also, nutrition supply should be considered, with chondroprotective agents (glucosamine & chondroitin phosphate, MSM, Omega-3). Glucosamine and chondroitin phosphate are unlikely to cause any drug to drug interactions with your other medications. But to date, there has been no evidence of structural improvement with these conservative modalities.
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
Avatar f tn Her weight was 30lbs so the dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine and 200 of Chondroitin (combined in one capsule once daily with food.) For a 47lb dog you would probably be looking at between 500mg (Glucosamine) and 700mg, and Chondroitin between 200mg and 300.
Avatar n tn To start, you feed 2 chews in the am and 2 in the pm for one entire container. Then, taper to one chew in the am and one in the evening. He loves them and he's been normal ever since. They can get pricey, but it's worth the health for your dog. The osteo bi-flex can't be digested properly, it doesn't have the amount of vits they need, and it's just a waste of money. Use them for yourself and try they phycox. We've been using it for 2 years now.
1792792 tn?1315355724 the one in the link is Natural factors MSM glucosamine/chrondroitin in a capsule, open the capsule and give 1/4 the powder (in food or mixed with water and via syringe) I would start with perhaps 1/4 of the capsule a.m. another 1/4 p.m.,,,if kitty can tolerate it ok than you can go up to even 1/2 capsule 2x per day. this Natural Factors product is safe for cats....do NOT substitute. this one contains NO color/ sweetners/corn/dairy/soy/ wheat nor yeast...so its one of the safe ones..
Avatar n tn He is very thin, dislikes heat, has a weak digestive system, cataracts in both eyes. I’d like him to gain weight but too much food causes diarrhea. I considered Liquidambar 15 but I read something about Sin Miao for his possible arthritis. Would glucosamine help him? I appreciate any input.
Avatar f tn Well since you have patella alta so it means your patella position is altered, sp for that your muscles specially the calf and the IT bands are in a constrained position they pull too much everytime your exert weight on your legs. Its best if you can go in for a myofascial release. And as for your other leg now, its due to overuse of that side. If this does not help then probably a release surgery should be the answer.
558059 tn?1288550944 Hi I have a 8 1/2 year old GSPointer . On recent visit to vets I was advised to put her on Glucosamine & Chrondrotin . She has been on them for 6 weeks now but I haven't noticed any improvement in her general movements. Is it advisable to keep her on these tablets now that I have started. Also could cod liver oil be of benefit to her? She is not good at taking these tablets but loves the c of o capsules!
Avatar f tn even cardiologists that are interested in prevention are recommending fish oil to lower triglycerides (and niacin to raise HDL). But if there's a lot of ice cream etc all the time, that's your culprit. This does though, relate to a question I've had but never seen answered: if a person is on weight-loss reduced calorie diet, then what's to prevent the fish oil (or other nutrients like glucosamine, e.g.) from being burned as fuel?
Avatar n tn Otherwise, he is extremely active, runs with my younger dog, shows no signs of limbing. His weight is great. He is taking a glucosamine supplement which hasn't done much. All his blood work is fine. Is there anything I can do for him to prevent this from getting worse?
Avatar m tn -( Anyway, your worst enemy is the weight issue so you really need to get the weight off with a weight management food, the green bean diet, etc and maintain it. The dog still needs moderate exercise to maintain muscle tone and strength. Try to avoid stairs, jumping, etc. aquatic therapy is great if you have a pool or facility near you for rehab (hard to find). As Ellen said, Glucosamine is good but it may take 4-6 weeks to see any benefits. Check with your Vet on the dose.
Avatar n tn He sent for a course of Physiotherapy which I attended for 6months. In the end I stopped going because after the initial mild improvement in pain there was no further improvement. I am taking 1500mg Glucosamine Sulphate + 1200mg Marine Chondroitin + 1000mg Omega 3 fish oil daily. Despite this the symptoms have now spread to my right hip, right shoulder and slight symptoms in my right knee. I get some relief from taking 400mg of Ibuprofen at night so I can sleep.
Avatar m tn When I was in the process of losing my 70 lbs, at a certain point I added weight-training. I did NOT stall weight loss, nor did I temporarily GAIN weight. I cringe when people say that they do.... Weight-training is absolutely essential. GO FOR IT!
Avatar n tn ve been taking calcium and glucosamine supplements and a multivitamin that has about 200% of each of the B vitamins, in addition to other vitamins. And I do impact exercises, plus some weight lifting. It's lousy being sick. I hope your condition improves.
Avatar m tn Pt. II -- Other ideas are chondrointon and glucosamine sulfate, which help some, don't help others. Some also find help by avoiding foods in the nightshade family. Lots of research to do.
Avatar n tn my ***** is 12 years old and been sruggling to walk for couple months now just stiffly she not been in pain and she still running around with other dogs but today her front legs have gone worse and she looks like she in pain?
1388999 tn?1370042814 that leg a bit in cold damp weather) So I started her straight away on the maximum dosage for her weight of both Glucosamine and Chondroitin (That is 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin for her weight which is 28lbs) I asked the vet could I use Human grade pills. He said yes the substances are exactly the same. The human ones are much cheaper than veterinary ones! So I bought a huge pack of the pills at reduced price for bulk buy.
Avatar m tn About 15 years ago, a sports orthopedist gave me some really serious knee braces and said they would stabilize my loose knees. They controlled the pain. But over the last couple of years or so I arrive at this point: Both knees hurt all of the time and it makes it very difficult for me to even walk or bicycle. Prior to having knee surgery (I don't have a surgeon yet) I want to strengthen the muscles that support my knee and lose about 20 pounds (I weigh about 20 1bs ; I now weigh 260.
Avatar f tn Hi ambi, try glucosamine, takes a couple weeks to kick in, but a friend of mine said it helped him..............but everybody in our predicament should realise this......there is no money in a cure !!!!!!!!
Avatar m tn When asleep I do not realise the pain but when awake I get numbness in my legs, though it becomes normal as I get out of the bed. This has been increasing over the years, perhaps first indication was 10 years ago. So far the pain is so bad. My general physician and even Ortho have not been able to guide. I am otherwise quite active and healthy, though been sitting and working on my computer for 8-10 hrs a day.
