Avatar f tn Try avocado soybean unsaponifiables formulated specifically for cats. (They also make them for humans.) I don't have any particular recommendation for a brand, but one is called Dasuquin. Ask your vet about this approach.

675347 tn?1365460645 Please does anyone know the dosage of Glucosamine Sulphate for dogs? How many milligrams per pound body weight? Also, is it ok to give my dog the regular Glucosamine (which people take) as it is so much cheaper to buy that at the supermarket, than to get it from the vet, or to buy dog treats which contain it! Thanks for any help or suggestions, anyone. Ginger.
1356964 tn?1302087435 Canned food would be the best for him and I have been incorporating wet food into all three of my cats diets. I add distilled water to it (Usually Wellness grain free turkey or chicken) and make it real soupy, they accept this alot better than just pouring it out the can and giving it to them. However, they still like their dry too so I am on a mission to find a dry cat food that would be acceptable for my spook and boys that is not too high in magnesium, phosphorus and ash.
Avatar f tn Benefits Hips and Knees, Di Gu Pi, Loranthus Combination and more. Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatories, such as Rimadyl, or Previcox or equivalent, and Tramadol are helpful in conjunction with holistic therapies.

1358341 tn?1282209843 com One of your questions about Glucosamine/Chonrodin supplements and the safest brands for cats I can give you the answer to that. these are the products that are recommended. -NOW Foods-Glucosamine Sulfate OR -NATURAL FACTORS-MSM joint formula capsules with Glucosamine Sulfate, Chondroitin Sulfate, and MSM acute stage 500mg day than reduce down to 125mg for long term use. Sorry I can't offer you any advice on Renal KS, Vitamineral or Renalzin I'm not familiar with these at all.
Avatar m tn As Ellen said, Glucosamine is good but it may take 4-6 weeks to see any benefits. Check with your Vet on the dose. Anti-inflammatories are often used but one may work better than another. Watch kidney/liver function on these meds.an orthopedic bed is a good idea. There is something called a hip hammock that can be very beneficial for a dysplastic dog. Of course, there is always some type of surgery which can be extensive and expensive.
5591135 tn?1380168056 What are some herbs/supplements that are safe to give cats that are over the counter to help with bladder infections/UTI's? We just cleaned the litter boxes and someone is peeing massive amounts of blood. I know its not Milo-he uses the upstairs box. We 5 other cats to rule out. Sigh....None are acting weird.
638291 tn?1233060603 I would like to find out if it's ok to take liquid collagen and what are the benefits Than you
Avatar f tn I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.
765775 tn?1366024691 And neither SAMe nor MSM is likely to work alone -- natural remedies usually have to be taken in combination for synergy to maximize results. A typical combination would be MSM, glucosamine and chondroitan sulphate, and anti-inflammatories such as bromelain, a protein-digesting enzyme, ginger and turmeric. See Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing for more detailed options.
1232362 tn?1333135406 NATURAL FACTORS- MSM joint formula capsules with Glucosamine Sulfate and NOW FOODS-joint support with Glucosamine Sulfate these both come in capsule form, you will have to open the 500 mg capsule and measure out about half mix in with the food or if kitty won't eat it that way mix with tiny amount of water and give via dropper...the usual dosage is anywhere from 150mg-300mg. so experiment with the lighter dose first.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar f tn Its a law here, but since we moved the dog license bureau doesn't know where we are now, so I haven't renewed her license, and won't be forced to get the rabies shot. The only problem I can forsee is the vet, they give me a hard time because I won't give my cats, especially the old ones, rabies and other shots. I'm sure they will give me a harder time for the dog, because she does go outside, even though shes with us or just hangs very near the house.
Avatar f tn Wet food is actually better for older cats and easier for them to digest and eat. As for giving your kitty something to help her stiff joints, I am going to leave this for another Medhelp member on the cat forum to comment on. There probably is something, but I don't know what it is. I wish you both well.
746512 tn?1388807580 My old girl is having some litter box issues lately and I need some help if I've missed anything. Smokey is 19 years old about (stray we got at 2-3 years in 94) but has been very healthy up to now. She goes for yearly health checks and vaccines and had blood/urine work done a year last may which was perfect to a tee.
1093971 tn?1257833640 Not all glucosamine products are created equal. In order to best evaluate a product, you need to consider several things. When your healthcare and joint discomfort is at stake, take a moment and consider these criteria: What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame.
Avatar m tn Faster recovery means you can lift more weight on subsequent trips to the gym. Benefits experienced within 3 weeks of taking protease supplements. Paxiled would you know a good brand to take as this is an expensive supplement.
Avatar m tn Oh I am so sorry, both that you lost your well-loved Terrier, and that your Dalmation has taken it so badly. Grief and missing a loved companion is natural in dogs, but I can understand why you are worried, when it has this effect. Yes, depression can cause physical decline, but even an old dog who has got sad and down, that she feels her age, and has aches and pains, can maybe be cheered up. I don't really know about how wise it would be to get another dog in.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me why doxycylene should not be given to pregnant or nursing cats/ I have a pregnant kitty who has developed a bad resperitory infection. She really needs an antibiotic now, I thought doxycyclene was about the safest and most effective med to clear up this particular infection (rhino). Could someone help me here????
Avatar n tn EPA and DHA. The best source for both is fish oil. Aim for 1,000-3,000 mg total DHA and EPA. That's three to nine capsules a day of most brands. Take 1,500 mg of glucosamine sulfate and 1,200 mg of chondroitin a day. Take 500-1,500 mg of MSM per day. Also take Take 400 to 800 mg a day of Sam-e. A product from New Chapter called Zyflamend, contains rosemary, curcumin, and ginger that are anti-inflammatories.
746512 tn?1388807580 I also treat him with a maintenance dose of Glucosamine and Chrondroitin Sulfate...at 125mg. but for acute stages that dose can be as high as 500mg for a short time..if you are interested in that I can send you the 'safe' brands on the market for cats. this has an antinflamatory action and also helps with the bladder spams. I've read that its not uncommon for a blockage to reacur. Does the Vet have kitty on any medication? here is an excellent article to read. www.
