3135572 tn?1342657739 Get OFF Gabapentin. In 2020, a thorough study came out implicating Gabapentin in Alzheimer's and other dementia. If you've taken it more than 3 years (I have!) you are at highest risk. Anything, apparently, which alters your brain chemistry to help you sleep, like Ambien, has been implicated in dementia...OTC sleep drugs too!
Avatar m tn 30 pm and can’t go back to sleep unless I take an additional Trazadone and Gabapentin. Do you see any harm in that…….. or should I consider another sleep prescription? Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn Hi everybody hubby finished tx in April last year, he achieved SVR thank god but it made his periphal neuropathy a lot worse and he is only getting a few hours sleep a night before the pain wakes him up so he as to get up to try to allieviate the pain. His doc as tried all kinds of tablets but none have worked so far. A few days ago she put him on gabapentin and i just wondered if any of you have had it and if so does it help?
Avatar n tn I am a 50 yr old male. I was prescribed Gabapentin for neurological pain management by the VAMC in Tampa, Florida. According to some post I've read, Gabapentin is a med that one must be weened off of. I've been taking Gabapentin off and on to help with pain so I can sleep. I don't take it all the time because of the side effects. Sometimes, but not all the time, I feel like I'm having a bad hangover after the medication wears off.
Avatar f tn second day without the pain pills! But the doctor today gave me gabapentin for pain is it addictive? I dont need another addiction.
4186651 tn?1357830957 Has anyone else taken Gabapentin for all of these pains neuralgia migraines? I'm petrified to take this drug because of all the bad side affects! Did it help or harm anyone? Or should I wait to see the NS first before I take it?
Avatar f tn I was perscribed Gabapentin which is generic for Lyrica, I believe. I was perscribed this prior to my diagnosis and my insurance just approved it. Does this medication help w/the pain or what? I have never taken this before and don't know exactly what it is for. The doctor who prescribed it gave it to me months ago but my insurance said they didn't cover it so I just forgot about it and then I got the diagnosis and didn't think much of it after that.
Avatar f tn I find it actually energizes me now IF I have gotten plenty of sleep or am at least not feeling sleep deprived when starting it or increasing. Don't give up too soon.
Avatar f tn ve been having them for maybe 8 weeks now. I am on Gabapentin 900 mg x3 per day but found out that it was the Gabapentin causing the anxiety state, heart palpitations, difficulty breathing, as well as the zaps of anxiety that plunges my eyes open right when I am drifting into sleep. You situation may be that it was one of your medication causing this.
1140169 tn?1370185076 I know when my TN annoys me a little more than usual I take an extra 300mg Gabapentin at bedtime and sleep like a log, so it stands to reason that if I take 300mg less G than my normal daily dose, I might have a crappy sleep. I've also noticed in the past that when I forget my Rebif I sleep poorly, especially if I stretch the three day span to four days. Anyone else notice lousy sleep after missing meds?
Avatar f tn Went to a new doctor today and he seems to feel the vicodene is no longer working so he had prescribed me gabapentin-100 mgs. three times a day. My concern now is withdrawing from the vocoden. doctor has suggested that I taper down to half a pill a week (of the vicodene). Of course I did not tell him how much I was taking of the vicodene. In searching this forum I have read different opions on the gabaperntin.
Avatar f tn Hello, everyone! I am a 16-year-old girl and I take gabapentin for nerve pain (we think...) My neurologist gave me a perscription for 1800 mg per day. The other day, I went to a Christmas party and left the gabapentin at home, so I missed a dose. I got a horrible stomach ache that night and was miserable. The next day, I took the medicine, and the stomach aches are gone. i also have gotten weird vision problems when I accidentally miss a dose.
733362 tn?1489794936 Hi, Been Valium free for 89 days and was having a hard time sleeping. Pain Doc prescribed Catapress (clonadine) and it worked for 6 hours of sleep but made my heart pound. Went to a GP Doc and he prescribed Gabapentin. He wants me to take 300mg 3x a day but it has side effects too, mostly bothers my stomach and I don't like the way I feel on it the next day. Hard to explain exactly how it makes me feel.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am still trying to get a diagnosis, going to Cleveland Clinic the end of the month. I am now experiencing leg, feet, hand and arm spasms, pain and tightness at night. Alot of nights it wakes me up, can't get back to sleep, Some nights I can't even get to sleep. I am taking 600 mg of Gabapentin at bedtime, take 300 during the day. I am always tired even if I don't take it or if I get a good nights sleep, I am still always tired.
Avatar f tn Hi has anyone been on gabapentin or heard of it before? I have had 3 discectomies on L4/L5 disc and now have tissue scarring leaving me with the same as before all my surgeries. I have been prescribed gabapentin this week for nerve damage in that area of my back. I am in first week on it and taking 600mg per day.
Avatar f tn When I run out before I pick up my next script I find that Gabapentin really helps with the restless legs, sleep etc. It is almost like a universal drug. I heard that Gabapentin used to be used for Opiate withdrawl but I can't remenber where I heard that from. WEhat have you headr about Gabapentin and it's uses? If you could let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks and I wish you all the luck in your carck addiction...
Avatar f tn Pain in the back of my head all the way down to the end of my spine, stiffness in my whole body upon waking and stiffness if I sit longer than 10 minutes, dizziness, nausea, weakness in my legs, numbness and tingling in my arms and legs, shakiness, tremors, painful urination (without infection), painful periods and PMS, Insomnia(I had not slept in 8 days before being admitted and I was psychotic from sleep deprivation. I only had a few hours sleep while on that psych ward.
Avatar n tn This has kept the RLS under control but about 7pm has sent me to sleep - most inconvenient for evening meetings! Today my specialist put me on Gabapentin - 100mg twice a day for one week, increasing by 100mg per dose per week up to 600mg in the sixth week. I have therefore stopped the Ropinerole. What I forget to ask is what time of day/night it is best to take the Gabapentin capsules. My RLS is (was) bad in the evenings & through the night.
615048 tn?1226186203 i took this drug but i do not remember the actual detox other than lask of sleep, i do rememebr having "brain zaps" it made me feel like a space cadet, and i do not need any help with that...hehe good luck, you can do it!!!!!
Avatar m tn I was prescribed gabapentin after surgery, for the nerve pain I was having in my legs. The dosage was gradually increased to 600 mg, three times a day. It really did the trick. The doctor told me i would be on the meds for about 6 mos. Over the last 10 days I have been gradually decreasing the dosage and am now on 1 600mg tablet at night. Has anybody had trouble getting to sleep at night and if yes, what did you do?
Avatar f tn Most of my withdrawals symptoms are shaking, RLS, and the feeling of needing to get out of my skin. The neurontin has stopped that and has even let me sleep. I was wondering if anyone knows more about this medication. I did some reading on it but someone told me that it can cause changes in personality. I asked to pharmacist and he told me that it might cause some mood changes. I haven't experienced this yet, but how would I know? Also when will my legs stop aching? Thanks.
1831849 tn?1383228392 I have been on gabapentin for 2 months, It helps somewhat with pain, it helped me to sleep very sound, until this week, I can't seem to get to sleep and awake alot during the night.
1602212 tn?1327597618 Hi Bub, When I stopped taking hydros, the gabapentin helped alot. It took the edge off of the anxiety, and helped with sleep as well, which is difficult to come by when you're going through detox. I hope you have the same good results. Good luck to you and keep posting so we know how you're doing. Well wishes...
293157 tn?1285873439 Because I seem to be responding better to this latter drug, I am now slowly weaning off the gabapentin. I guess if the pain increases as I go off the gabapentin, this will tell me it was helping more than I realized. I have no side effects from the gabapentin, even at such a high dose. I do find the 50mg amitriptyline makes me very drowsy, and may need to scale it back to 40mg if this side effect continues.
Avatar f tn It may well help with your fibro, your neuropathy, any nerve pain in your back and a side benefit CAN be sleep, too (at least when you first go on gabapentin). They usually have you take your first dose at night because it can make you sleepy. Then they GRADUALLY increase your dose throughout the day as having even blood plasma levels of this medication helps immensely. I didn't have any trouble going ON gabapentin.....or getting OFF of it because I tapered it as instructed.
733362 tn?1489794936 Lucky for me all thats gone now, if it will return only God knows. Only the lack of sleep remains. The Gabapentin I was only taking at night and it was bothering me but I wanted to sleep so bad that I took it until the bad belly is hanging on now. It seems to have a rebound so I agree with that too. I feel pretty anxious by the next evening. Thank you so much for responding. I really needed some help. I'll try the Valarian Root since you speak so highly of it.
Avatar f tn I have been desperately seeking something safe to help me sleep, while I wait for my brain disruption to normalize. About 1000mg of Gabapentin each evening shows promise after a few days. But I 've read wildly different things about this drug - from it being non-addicting, to it being harder to get off than the benzos! I do not know who or what to believe about this drug.
