Anyone have any side effects from starting neurontin or suggestions on how to adapt to using it. It's kicking my butt so far, so only taking it at night but a bit zoozy in the mornings. Am on 300mg, have titration orders but don't want to add any more at the present until I adjust to this night dose. anyone?

I have been prescribed Gabapentin and found the drug to have serious side effects. It significantly degrades intellectual ability, for one, affects judgement (adversely), and makes driving dangerous. It is also addictive. It also doesn't do much to relieve pain. Under certain circumstances it can precipitate seizures. Then it causes headaches. And difficulty breathing.. I just stopped it cold. I would never take it again.

How long after taking gabapentin will the side effects last. I have hair loss. I stopped taking gabapentin about four or five months ago.

I also know (through googling many different medications) that each time you adjust the dosage, that your body can have side effects. The side effects should get better as your body adjusts, but if they don't, you should definitely talk to your doctor about it.

I was on gabapentin after spinal injury, and decided that I was better off without it. The medication didn't do much for pain, but had the side effects you talked about, plus it caused confusion. I did not feel safe driving while under this medication. Everything is a risk/benefit situation, and I suggest you have a long talk with the prescribing physician if you experience problems.

Get OFF Gabapentin. In 2020, a thorough study came out implicating Gabapentin in Alzheimer's and other dementia. If you've taken it more than 3 years (I have!) you are at highest risk. Anything, apparently, which alters your brain chemistry to help you sleep, like Ambien, has been implicated in dementia...OTC sleep drugs too!

What are the long term side effects of taking Gabapentin for long term pain control?

For those of you who take Gabapentin (Neurontin): Just curious what side effects you have experienced (and at what dosage), and how long they lasted? I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. I am having a really hard time waking up in the morning and for the first half of the day I feel a little "loopy" or my head feels "swimmy"....if that makes any sense.....

I was feeling good on 100 mg and side effects were subsiding. How long will it take to adjust to 150? I also was just put on 10mg of lisiniprol for high blood pressure. And I'm taking gabapentin for insomnia from the Zoloft. I really appreciated any advice! I've had Hiv OCD for a long time and it started up again over a scraped knuckle and cutting my thumb on a tape measure! All irrational and ridiculous but that's OCD!!! Really trying to live life and be happy!

Trileptal is a newer drug than Tegretol (carbamazapine) and is supposed to have less side effects than Tegretol. You do have to have blood tests every three months because it can affect the sodium levels in your blood, which could lead to kidney problems. You are experiencing side effects of Neurontin, is all. Diff people react diff ways to it. Me, I have nausea that bothers me a lot. The weight gain you ask about is one of the side effects, as are the other problems you are having. I've been taking it for two years, and I also started out on Lyrica, but becuz of cost I had to switch. Neurontin has only been around for about 15 years, so for at least for that length of time you're good.

m on 100mg this week and next week I go up to 300mg. The 100mg is making me SOOOO dopy. Is this normal? What are other side effects? How bout the liver and kidneys?

I am just looking for something to help w/the pain not make my memory, headaches, etc worse! I looked at the website and saw the side effects and figured I already have all that so why not....but I am glad I looked on here. You should do a commercial for them...lol.
