Anyone have any side effects from starting neurontin or suggestions on how to adapt to using it. It's kicking my butt so far, so only taking it at night but a bit zoozy in the mornings. Am on 300mg, have titration orders but don't want to add any more at the present until I adjust to this night dose. anyone?

I am on Gabapentin 300mg 2 a day, I have had weight gain since being on them, I have gained 15 lbs in 2 months time. I am sitting here thinking if he ups my meds like he wants to the side effect of weight gain will only get worse. I talked to the people where I get Gabapentin and they said that that side effect don't go away and if the dose is inceased it will only get worse so if the med isn't helping me there are other options.

I have been prescribed Gabapentin and found the drug to have serious side effects. It significantly degrades intellectual ability, for one, affects judgement (adversely), and makes driving dangerous. It is also addictive. It also doesn't do much to relieve pain. Under certain circumstances it can precipitate seizures. Then it causes headaches. And difficulty breathing.. I just stopped it cold. I would never take it again.

Trileptal is a newer drug than Tegretol (carbamazapine) and is supposed to have less side effects than Tegretol. You do have to have blood tests every three months because it can affect the sodium levels in your blood, which could lead to kidney problems. However their side-effect profiles may differ somewhat. If you are finding that the side-effects with gabapentin are tolerable then it would probably be best to increase the dose under doctor's advice. There is a long way upwards that you may go with the dose before reaching the upper limit, as Jason80 points out. I've used Lyrica for several months now and I am finding it very hard to tolerate the side-effects, although it does a good job of reducing pain significantly.

I am no longer on my gabapentin and I am still in pain from Chiari malformation, a brain tumor and degenerative disc disease but at least I am not edgy on top of it. I feel "normal" after getting that stuff outta my body.

I also know (through googling many different medications) that each time you adjust the dosage, that your body can have side effects. The side effects should get better as your body adjusts, but if they don't, you should definitely talk to your doctor about it.

I have taken gabapentin for neuropathic foot pain. It worked well for a while, in tandem with Elavil. I had no side effects, but it eventually stopped working, so I swithed to another anti-seizure med called Lyrica. Anyone else have gabapentin experience to share?

Lyrica and Neurontin (Gabapentin) are in the same class of drug and have similar side effects profiles.
