Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin for sleep

neurontin

Avatar m tn ve heard that neurontin or gabapentin is great for stopping the nerve pain associated with withdrawal. Has anyone had experience with this?
Avatar m tn 00 pm after taking (10 mg melatonin), (50 mg Trazodone), (100 mg Gabapentin). That has worked for 2 years giving me 7-8 hours uninterupted sleep. However, for the last couple of months I find myself waking up around 4:30 pm and can’t go back to sleep unless I take an additional Trazadone and Gabapentin. Do you see any harm in that…….. or should I consider another sleep prescription? Thank you for your help.
3135572 tn?1342657739 I have been on gabapentin for a while now. 900 mg 4 x day. I have not had any twitching from it. I used to have the twitching before I started the med. Everyone reacts differently, so I would suggest checking out the side effects you can find a more comprehensive list on line. Check out the manufacturer web site.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar n tn NOW, I am scared. I am on gabapentin also. 600 mg.3 times a day for back pain. I don't sleep and when I do finally get to sleep, I do not want to wake up, get up , nothing!! I can't really tell if it is helping my pain or not but I need to know that. I do know that I can't do without the prednisone I am on for Arthritis. My Back hurts almost All the time. If I stand to long, if I sit to long, If I lay to long, you name it. I have had two back surgery's just this yr.
Avatar f tn second day without the pain pills! But the doctor today gave me gabapentin for pain is it addictive? I dont need another addiction.

Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar f tn Due to my health insurance being canceled I can't afford to purchase multiple medications I've been on for several years. Gabapentin , fentanyl 75 mcg patch and ocyocodone 15 mg 4 a day. I have been decreasing my amount of each medication as slowly as possible but don't have much left. The side effects of decreasing these medications over a week has had some really bad effects.
Avatar f tn I took gabapentin 3 X day for 7 weeks to prepare me for brain surgery (4.6 cm meningioma--all ok) It made me EXTREMELY physically unstable. I had to have help walking and could not drive. That was 11 months ago. I still need help if standing to long or if I am in a room with a lot of people. Way wobbly. Dr said maybe a year and l'll be ok. I don;t think it is from the surgery, I think it is Gabapentin related. That's how it feels. Anybody else?????
Avatar m tn I find that Gabapentin helps with the restless lesgs, sleep ect. My question is, what can you tell me about Gabapentin? What is it used for? I heard that when it first came out it was used for Opiate withdrawl. Is this true? Thank you for your responses.
Avatar f tn It was only with research that I realized that Gabapentin was the cause to my surprise because I was o Gabapentin for about 10 months before these side effects began. So in summary, find out the med that lists anxiety as a side effect, discontinue or taper before discontinuation (if possible) and see a doctor for help with prescribing medicine to help your withdrawals.
Avatar f tn Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
Avatar f tn Hello, everyone! I am a 16-year-old girl and I take gabapentin for nerve pain (we think...) My neurologist gave me a perscription for 1800 mg per day. The other day, I went to a Christmas party and left the gabapentin at home, so I missed a dose. I got a horrible stomach ache that night and was miserable. The next day, I took the medicine, and the stomach aches are gone. i also have gotten weird vision problems when I accidentally miss a dose.
Avatar f tn I have been taking vicodene for a number of years. Prescribed five a day. But of course I have found myself taking up to ten a day. Went to a new doctor today and he seems to feel the vicodene is no longer working so he had prescribed me gabapentin-100 mgs. three times a day. My concern now is withdrawing from the vocoden. doctor has suggested that I taper down to half a pill a week (of the vicodene). Of course I did not tell him how much I was taking of the vicodene.
Avatar m tn My little girl Abbie, 13 yr old mini-schnauzer has been having seizures, unbeknownst to us except for one, for several months. 2 weeks ago she just fell on her side and laid there for about 1 minute. This happened again every day and on the 3rd day we took her to our vet. They did xrays and found no heart or lung problems but said she might have a stomach tumor (note, she has had a fatty tumor on her side for many years which is now the size of a small orange).
733362 tn?1489794936 Hi, Been Valium free for 89 days and was having a hard time sleeping. Pain Doc prescribed Catapress (clonadine) and it worked for 6 hours of sleep but made my heart pound. Went to a GP Doc and he prescribed Gabapentin. He wants me to take 300mg 3x a day but it has side effects too, mostly bothers my stomach and I don't like the way I feel on it the next day. Hard to explain exactly how it makes me feel.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
Avatar f tn I have been on Gabapentin for years. It is a generic for Neurontin, which is prescribed as an anti-seizure med, but off label is prescribed for nerve pain. It usually takes higher doses for nerve pain. I was taking 900 mg per day, 3 am, 3 noon, and 3 nightly. Now I take 3 at night and 2 during the day. I am on other pain meds to help with the pain from 2-level cervical disc herniation and multi-level DDD and radiculopathy in my arm, hand, back and leg.
Avatar f tn Good for you...anything that helps is great. I currently take gabapentin 4 times per day (300mg) and I use Dilaudid daily. When I run out before I pick up my next script I find that Gabapentin really helps with the restless legs, sleep etc. It is almost like a universal drug. I heard that Gabapentin used to be used for Opiate withdrawl but I can't remenber where I heard that from. WEhat have you headr about Gabapentin and it's uses?
Avatar f tn I see my new endocrinologist for that tomorrow. Good luck with the gabapentin. I hope it works as well for you as it seems to for me.
5657776 tn?1371799886 If you have problems with your sleep cycle, then please call your doctor and ask for adjustment of the timing of the medication. Also, were you prescribed both the drugs? If yes, then please adjust the timing of the doses with your doctor because taking them together or close to each other can increase side effects like dizziness and drowsiness. Also, please do not drink alcohol or drive while you are taking these drugs. Do discuss this with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn This has kept the RLS under control but about 7pm has sent me to sleep - most inconvenient for evening meetings! Today my specialist put me on Gabapentin - 100mg twice a day for one week, increasing by 100mg per dose per week up to 600mg in the sixth week. I have therefore stopped the Ropinerole. What I forget to ask is what time of day/night it is best to take the Gabapentin capsules. My RLS is (was) bad in the evenings & through the night.
