neurontin

Avatar n tn I had little pain at the time of the outbreak however, I developed pain on the same side as the shingles outbreak, like electric shocks, which shoot from my groin to my knee. My knee will burn with prolonged standing, and after sitting for prolonged periods, I can hardly walk when I get up.
Avatar f tn t want to take another cortisone shot since it gives me high blood sugars and that makes my RLS and neuropathy pain worse for a couple weeks. Does any one think I might be better off taking a short acting pain med instead of a long acting one that does not seem to help everything? I can't take NSAIDS due to ulcers and gastroparesis amongst other stomach problems from years of indulging in alcoholic beverages in my younger not so wiser age. Any ideas so I can talk to my PM Dr.
1168718 tn?1464983535 I have bakers cysts and my doc says they just appear; it does not hurt anywhere other than the back of the knee..........
Avatar m tn I am so sorry that you are having such horrid pain. I had a knee surgery (minor compared to yours) some years ago and the pain was excruciating. You must be very uncomfortable. Nerve pain is one of the most severe and difficult to treat of all pains. It sounds like you are on appropriate medications but are they at high enough doses to control your pain adequately? You may never be pain free but your pain should be more controlled.
Avatar n tn I am a 50 yr old male. I was prescribed Gabapentin for neurological pain management by the VAMC in Tampa, Florida. According to some post I've read, Gabapentin is a med that one must be weened off of. I've been taking Gabapentin off and on to help with pain so I can sleep. I don't take it all the time because of the side effects. Sometimes, but not all the time, I feel like I'm having a bad hangover after the medication wears off.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Celebrex (200 mg a day) for about five years for bone on bone knee osteoarthritis. It has worked well for controlling my pain (not perfect but pretty good). I also get some lower back pain (combination of osteoarthritis and nerve stuff) that only happens when I over-do (like trying to garden, etc.). I typically need a day or two of Vicodin for that as the Celebrex does not seem to work for that.
Avatar f tn com/content/d0j5051315242165/ 8 out of 10 is a lot of pain. Have they tried any other neuropathic pain med for you like the gabapentin mentioned in this studY? I'm so sorry you are in such agony -don't give up looking for an answer to help.
Avatar n tn I require Norco 10/325 QID and even that is not sufficient for full relief. EMG/NCS negative. MRI brain, back, knee/patellofemoral region or pain negative, X-RAY or legs negative, venous/arterial ultrasound with ABI are both negative. Major lab testing all inflammatory markers all negative but I’m suffering very bad and this has taken over my life causing bad major depression.
Avatar n tn The only thing helps me is taking flexeril and xanax. I take gabapentin for pain and it does help getting the burn out. Let us know.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I take both gabapentin and amitriptilyne (Elavil) for my neuropathic foot pain. I started with 300mg gabapentin and worked my way up to 3600mg. I take 1200mg 3X/day. By itself it didn't do that much for my pain. We added 25mg amitriptilyne to the gabapentin and I saw some relief. We upped it to 50mg 1X/day and my pain was gone completely! I guess I'm luck not to have any side effects from either drug.
Avatar m tn Gabapentin doesn't work for me either. I wish I had some suggestions for you, but I am in the same boat.
1279419 tn?1271197281 I had shooting pain going from above my ankle to the bottom of my foot They now have me on Gabapentin 300mg. three times a day. You might want to ask the doctor if that will help? I'm not a doc but it sure did help withe the shooting in my foot. Hope all goes well.
Avatar f tn Also I have heard of some people taking Lyrica for fibromyalgia pain, and Also you can take Neurontin/ Gabapentin for nerve pain (for the peripheral neuropathy) None of these have tylenol in them. Hope this helps and good job on being clean for 12 years!!
Avatar n tn Sometimes I just so bad I just pray and cry. I will not take these pills anymore. I will have to take something else for pain. It does take your hair out.
Avatar f tn I cannot stand the pain in my arms; hands; elbows and knee anymore! It is this burning, pulsing, muscle spasmy, heavy feeling in the above areas of my body. any thoughts? i have NOT been diagnosed with MS or anything else at this point. my most recent MRI was "unchanged" from the last. the last one showed a few small punctate foci and that was it.
Avatar n tn I feel for y'all. I have been suffering with the same thing (excrutiating knee pain) for years, but because I am a "good little doctor's daughter" I wouldn't go to the doctor. 20 years later the pain along my whole sciatic nerve is so excrutiating and constant I just can't stand it. I hobble and my leg muscles are noticibly smaller, to the point friends and family mention it. MRIs of spine, hip and knee show nothing, and steroid epidurals gave minimal relief.
Avatar m tn I was taking 100mgs oxycodone a day for chronic back and knee pain, 900mgs gabapentin also for chronic pain, also 3(7.5mg) zopiclone at night to sleep and 1.5(7.5mg) during the day to sleep. I have stopped the oxycodone cold turkey with bad withdrawals, now at 13 days. My question is can I safely stop the zopiclone cold turkey or do I need to slowly taper off it?
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
392207 tn?1200687184 Have you tried Lyrica or Gabapentin? They are good meds to take for the pain of nerve damage. I'm type 2 diabetic and after a triple bypass I developed diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage on the soles of my feet, then shooting pains in both my feet & legs. Gabapentin helps somewhat but the dosage needs to be increased.
Avatar f tn Is it true that nerves that are pinched will die off and others grow out and away from the pinched area?
Avatar f tn Gabapentin works for some people and not for others. Compression of a nerve or nerve root typically isn’t helped that much by medications unless the compression is relieved first. Medications can help ease pain but not numbness once the compression is relieved.
Avatar f tn My GP said he will prescribe Gabapentin for the pain, I just wondered what anyone thought about this.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar f tn I had hypothalamic lacunar stroke on 01/09/09 with subsequent thalamic pain syndrome on my right side arm/hand & leg/foot/toes. Constant tingling/burning/tightness/numbness & cold my entire right side of body. After stroke, my doctor immediately put me on 75 mg Plavix same day. After putting up with syndrome for 4 weeks, I went to my neurologist Thursday, 02/05/09 & told him the pain was really getting to me. He prescribed Lyrica 75 mg twice a day.
