For two years I have been experiencing severe pain in my left hip which radiates down the leg to the foot, as well as numbness and tingling in both feet and pain in the toes. The pain is worst when sitting down, lying down or bending over, and as a result i stand most of my waking hours. It is suspected to be sciatica, but I have not been able to obtain a diagnosis, largely because the CT_Scan and MRI of the lower back, which show some minor problems, show no nerve compression.
Thanks. The day I posted my question my physical therapist had me begin a number of exercises & stretches exclusively for my core-which I do 3x daily. We also began working on using my core to walk correctly. Because I had been giving in to the pain & dropping one hip for so long this has been exhausting, however, after only one week of "walking correctly" using my entire core- I'm pleased to report that my pain level has decreased by 90%!
m not saying Gabapentin is the cause of pain for anyone, but I know that for my mom and myself, it added to the pain it was supposed to be helping. Had I known what I know now (isn't that always the case) I would never have taken any of those meds. As I said, I don't know if the medication is causing you any adverse affects, but it might be worth your time to look into it and discuss it with your doctor. I have more information I could share with you if you want. Just let me know.
hi Punkie..........thats a good question and I have the same pain from the buttocks to the hip and radiating to the thigh and down my legs..worse on left side........I have 2 problems and this pain could be caused by either one doctor says one thing the other says different so gets very confusing.
1. it very well could be caused by the bursitis in our hips, although from what I understand that pain should only radiate as far as the thighs and not necessarily down the whole leg.

Hello, I'm trying to find out more information from others who are going through ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric nerve damage or neuralgia. I've been suffering from groin pain and numbness of my right leg after an ovarian egg retrieval. This was my third egg retrieval as an egg donor. Somehow during this last retrieval nerves were damaged most likely due to scar tissue being built up or the needle damaging the nerves.
Sorry for your suffering...I tried Gabapentin for my chronic pain due to Crohn's a couple of years ago after going off the opiates. I didn't get out of bed for a month and lost 15 lbs (I weigh 110) I was sketchy and disconnected. I know everyone is different but the nerve drugs scare the crap out of me.
Should I buy one medication ? Without gabapentin I have electrical , burning , shocking sensations from hip to toe in one leg and without the pain meds my low back pain is so bad it's hard to function. Should I buy one of the three meds and only withdraw from two then slowly decrease the one I purchase? If so which one?
s 48 smokes he has a unknown eye diese.witch caused him to be on Prednisone for 12 years! Also has pain going down his left hip to his foot. Hes slowly looseing his motorskills. Recently had a MIR done that showed a form of damage to his spinal cord.. we r unsure of what it is yet! They took him off Prednisone about a six months ago.
I haven't posted here for a while but could use some encouragement:( my pain is back and it is a lot in my upper back and in my chest and I always think its heart related:( I had tons of tests done last year and of course nothing pointed to my heart...does anyone use gabapentin and does it work??
The only thing helps me is taking flexeril and xanax. I take gabapentin for pain and it does help getting the burn out. Let us know.
Recovery without complications, except 10 weeks after surgery, I began feeling progressively greater pain -- primarily in the pubic (not genital) area adjacent to the operated hip. It is a burning pain. Fortunately it does not occur during sleeping hours, but tends to manifest itself after bending or sitting. Saw surgeon 2 days ago,
and he rotated my leg (without joint pain) and said "...come back in 30 days if it is still bothering you.
I had a Maligram two years ago they hit a nerve, the pain ran down the right hip all the way down the right leg and into my r foot, it thru me over the table, I am on Lyrica, gabapentin and Oxycodone, my back surgeon wants me to take Norco, but the primary has me on Oxy, 5/325 Norco 10/325, I want to wean myself off the oxy, so if I took oxycodone one day and Norco the next, would there be a reaction?
Check out something called the periformis muscle. It is highly debated in the medical community BUT it is real and I have constant problems with this muscle.
My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts).
Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
s left-side burning, electric-like pain, mostly from shoulder down left arm, but can be on face, head, hip, leg. Also deep stabbing pain around left shoulder blade and under left ribs. Sometimes it's a 10+. Ranges from 4 to 10.
Dx with RRMS in '97, very active 10+ years after, but on disability since 2008. Take Rebif, on brk from Tysabri. Have taken Lyrica + Tramadol to prevent pain since late 2008, it helped, but now the pain burns through even the max. dose.
I am taking 1500 mg every 6 hours of gabapentin. Shooting pain on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 15. Pain clinic just called have a appt. on fri.
