1168718 tn?1464983535 thanks bob for that information. I'm new here. I've had bone pain for years and I didn't know that could be related to MS. I call it eletric type bone pain. Interesting to see how it all ties together. I'm making list for my doctor b/c I"m about to get really active in getting the right diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
Avatar f tn I asked her what I can do for the burning rib pain between now and then - she told me take the gabapentin I had been prescribed or go to the ER. 2 Questions: 1. I'm very reluctant to take meds. and I'm terrified of the "depression, suicidal thoughts" side effects I have read can happen with gabapentin. Honestly- I don't really need a pill right now to make me more down than I already am at this point. Is this a good med.
Avatar f tn I hope the injections do work for you, in the mean time because your problem is a nerve one as well as localised pain ask your Dr about gabapentin which can help with nerve pain (still need other pain killers but they, like tramadol can be taken alongside the gabapentin. Take care.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I take both gabapentin and amitriptilyne (Elavil) for my neuropathic foot pain. I started with 300mg gabapentin and worked my way up to 3600mg. I take 1200mg 3X/day. By itself it didn't do that much for my pain. We added 25mg amitriptilyne to the gabapentin and I saw some relief. We upped it to 50mg 1X/day and my pain was gone completely! I guess I'm luck not to have any side effects from either drug.
Avatar n tn Sometimes I just so bad I just pray and cry. I will not take these pills anymore. I will have to take something else for pain. It does take your hair out.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Celebrex (200 mg a day) for about five years for bone on bone knee osteoarthritis. It has worked well for controlling my pain (not perfect but pretty good). I also get some lower back pain (combination of osteoarthritis and nerve stuff) that only happens when I over-do (like trying to garden, etc.). I typically need a day or two of Vicodin for that as the Celebrex does not seem to work for that.
5761335 tn?1374262330 My level just under the fusion is now close to bone on bone. I have been taking hydrocodone 10-325 for at least 10 years. 240 tablets a month. In the past I did feel that I was addicted and tried to stop. It was very difficult. I could not stop because of the so called Dt's which included the butterfly creepy feelings, the jitters, the spasms when trying to sleep etc. One day my my back doctor prescribed a medication to me to also help relieve my daily pain. It was GABAPENTIN 300 mg.
Avatar f tn One last thing, I am currently on 600mg of Gabapentin three times a day, Baclofen for spasms once a day, and Tramadol for break through pain... which is happening every day at this point. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I am no doctor but given the severity of your pain, I would say definitely continue with either the gabapentin or the opiates for a while if you can afford to do so. I am so so sorry.
Avatar n tn you need to consult a neurosurgeon for evaluation. You have been prescribed drugs like flexeril, muscle relaxant, gabapentin, anti convulsant used for neuropathic pain, opioids, etc. You need to put faith whichever combination of medications you are using. Do not mix up drugs or try all. Follow one doctor’s advice and consult the doctor again if not much relief. Check with a physiotherapist and if still in pain, consider undergoing surgery. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Over the last four years I've had pain and numbness in my left arm. A couple weeks ago, I moved in a strange way and my feet and entire left arm went numb. They've done nerve tests that came back normal, my x-rays are normal, although my spine is slightly curved. I keep having pain from my neck to my tail bone and through my left arm. They can't seem to figure out why. Any ideas? I'm on gabapentin and valium which help some but physical therapy hurts more than anything.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is used for epilepsy treatment, although it is sometimes used to treat neuropathic pain. I don't think it will help you much as it doesn't bond to receptors as opiates do.
Avatar f tn The lidocaine is a big deal for some reason. My pain doctor presribes me this, even many pain doctors are not comfortable with prescribing it. But I think it is because it can have issues with toxicity. But it has very few side affects. But the other neuropathic type medications can be easily prescribed by your neurologist. The first one I was on that did some good for me was carbamazipine. (I think I have that spelled right).
Avatar f tn Now it’s been 6 months my treatment is over but my lower back bone marrow pain is not healing. I can’t perform daily activities or join my practice. What to do?
Avatar f tn treatment would include rest, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, loose undergarments, weight loss if overweight and abdominal muscle strengthening exercises, drugs for neuralgic pain like gabapentin and amitryptiline etc. take care.
293157 tn?1285873439 I am not sure if you are having muscle pain or bone pain, it was explained to me years ago that the bone pain is caused from the lack of muscle support and the muscle pain is caused by spasms and also muscle fatigue. I know this doesn't really help you a whole Lot. If you can keep a record of your symptoms, time of day, what you were doing, When it seems to be worse or better. This information will be useful to your Doctor. I am so sorry the pain came back... I hope you feel better soon...
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin works for some people and not for others. Compression of a nerve or nerve root typically isn’t helped that much by medications unless the compression is relieved first. Medications can help ease pain but not numbness once the compression is relieved.
Avatar f tn Neurontin is an epilepsy drug--it has a number of "off-label" uses and one is chronic pain. The Elavil at nite is for pain management and anxiety. Of the two GABA is the drug with the most serious side effects--like Steven-Johnson syndorme--so you really should educate yourself and learn about the drugs and then find out for yourself if you want to take this medication. Do the benefits outweigh the risks of this medication?
Avatar f tn I have taken Gabapentin before for pain and found it about as useless as a screen door in a submarine. Yeah I know the "top doctors" prescribe it. They also used to prescribe blood-letting. In addition it seems to lower a persons IQ by about forty points (I know...that's a figure of speech), cause loss of memory, headaches, and loss of libido. I think there are many alternatives to be considered before using Gabapentin, such as a frontal lobotomy.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
1710958 tn?1308241126 after i came home i did what the doctor said but after 2 weeks the meds wore off and till this day im still in pain...non stop.. im taking gabapentin and pecoits and the pain just overrides it. cant bend my knees are lift my legs up without screaming.. getting out of bed is pretty bad i have to wait till the meds takes the edge off. i dread going to the bathroom cuz thats a task since i have to wea r a bone stimulator 24/7. by the way the surgery was done in the front...
Avatar f tn 4800 mg. gabapentin daily for nerve pain, for past 3 years. Chronic diarrhea ever since. Dr. swears it cannot be from Gabapentin; I am having a colonoscopy on Monday to rule out? whatever. But I think it is a damn coincidence that my diarrhea began exactly when my dose of meds jumped up dramatically. I will not ever go off Gab, no matter what. I would have to take morphine to combat the pain in my fingers, and the gab. is a miracle drug for me.
