1577364 tn?1296689784 I have tried celebrex, Lyrica, Cymbalta and Savella and none of these provide me with any relief. The only thing that helps is Oxycontin, but drs. are relunctant to prescribe on an ongoing basis. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Avatar m tn I take 2000mg Gabapentin for Neuropathic pain Relief qid(8000mg daily) and 60mg of Cymbalta daily. I have a broken spine due to my service related injury incurred while serving in the Canadian Forces Regular Forces(Army). I take care of three young children while my wife is at work. I am in a level ten pain 24/7. The Gabapentin gives me a couple hours of level 8 pain in the afternoon. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn 25mg about an hour before bed. It has worked great for me. I tried the Gabapentin and got up to 1200 mg - which was also taken before bed, but it did nothing for me. I have been told that Mirapex works much better than Ropinerol - you may want to talk to your doc about Mirapex as an option - it just went generic.
Avatar f tn I have tried several other pain relief methods and non-narcotic meds. Please know that pain relief is not worth loosing my sobriety.
Avatar n tn in my experience if you are going to feel any relief it should be within 2 weeks. how long have you been taking it now? and how many mg. are you taking? I've been on this for a few years and it definitely has given me some help, needed to be increased over time of course.
4186651 tn?1357830957 I am on it for overall neuralgia and it helps so much couldn't imagine not using it. It calms my nerve pain alot. The only small side effect is a little weight gain but I verytime it is worth it.
Avatar m tn I am sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time getting adequate pain relief. I am, however, concerned that you have been experimenting with higher doses to see if it provides better pain relief. This can be dangerous, especially with medicines such as methadone that has a really long half-life.
773646 tn?1239225659 I have MS, Fibromyalgia and Transverse Myelitis and have a constant buzzing and nerve pain in my hands and feet and pelvic area and for the nerve pain I highly recommend Lyrica as it works really well for me! Not only is it listed for nerve pain but for Fibromyalgia as well. From experience I can say the Lyrica will turn off the buzzing in the neck and spine in a short period of time. It doesn't work for everyone, but its been a lifesaver for me even at the minimal doses I take.
Avatar f tn Hi and thanks for the replies and yep I am miserable. I want some relief and I feel confused about what it really is but I guess now it is neurological... In answer to you question Lulu they did do a culture and it grow nothing so that is when they decided it was neurological, I say they because I went for a second opinion on it and the 3rd if you count my neuro but I only phoned his nurse as he is located 3 hours drive away from me.
Avatar n tn I take 120 mg of Cymbalta, 3200 mg of gabapentin and 90 mg of oxycodone a day. it is not enough, what can I take over the counter that could help in addition.

Avatar f tn I was taking 900 mg per day, 3 am, 3 noon, and 3 nightly. Now I take 3 at night and 2 during the day. I am on other pain meds to help with the pain from 2-level cervical disc herniation and multi-level DDD and radiculopathy in my arm, hand, back and leg.
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying. I thought that was breakthrough pain was. It almost doesn't apply to me as the pain is so high and so constant. I get up in the morning and it's really high and it gets worse as the day goes by (and this can be with me simply sat or led on the sofa - any kind of movement (slightly turning my head, moving my arm, just any very slight movement really) increases it.
Avatar f tn am at present taking 2400 mg per day of gabapentin and find only some relief from pain and other feelings of discomfort. my GP thinks this level of medication is adding to my fatigue and tiredness.I was wondering if anyone knows of alternative drugs that can be used so I can go armed with info when I go to see my consultant....
293157 tn?1285873439 If you give narcotics, the pain will be suppressed and you can sit there and miss a hot appendix while it ruptures. But, most of the time, the pain relief is needed for the well-being of the patient and does not hide the cause. The need for prompt and effective palliative care has been proven. Pain diminishes the quality of life and diminishes the person's strength to fight stress and infection. Gabapentin is often very useful in treating pain.
293157 tn?1285873439 m now down to 1800mg per day gabapentin, and 75mg amitriptyline. Pain still ebbs and flows on a daily basis; with a definite increase in discomfort and disturbing sensations in my left hand since coming down on the gabpentin. Prior to all of this I was considering giving Lyrica a try, in the hopes it might do a better job than the gabapentin, as it does for many here. I see my GP tomorrow to discuss this, and will let you know what I decide.
1516809 tn?1345082764 Both provided no relief. She then changed me to Mobic 15Mg and Gabapentin, which also provided no relief. I then was prescribed Dicoflenac pills, went off the Gabapentin, and then was prescribed Tramadol. Well the Tramadol does provide relief for the pain. I find that I need to take 150 mg, 50mg every six hours for relief and especially before bedtime so I can sleep without feeling discomfort in my legs. I never experience any pain in my lower back.
Avatar n tn I was taking Gabapentin 300 mg for extreme nerve pain in my foot, it worked like magic for approx. 3 months then stopped being effective. Any Thoughts - Reasons?
4943237 tn?1428991095 I worked my way up to 3600mg/day. I still had no relief. We then added 25mg amitriptilyne to the gabapentin and there was some relief. e bumped the amitriptilyne to 50mg/day and Bingo! No more pain! Talk with your doc about bumping your dose or adding a second drug.
Avatar f tn -) There are many options out there for pain relief but you must find the cause of the pain or treatment will fail. So if you took Baclofen thinking it's muscle spasms but it's actually neuropathic pain then you will get no relief. Take Care, Karry.
1283286 tn?1312911966 I've had several nerve root blocks as well as epidural injections. Some worked for awhile and some not at all. There are several different kinds of injections such as facet joints, nerve blocks, and even a chemical that sort of burns the nerve ends. After a double cervical fusion and a triple bilateral lumbar fusion, I am back to getting more injections. (I actually have a sacroiliac steriod injection tomorrow.) I am also taking gabapentin, mobic and flexeril.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn you will more than likely get some relief. It is commonly prescribed for diff types of nerve pain, chronic pain and neuropathy (as is it's cousin noritriptyline which Mary metioned above) I think you will feel some improvement once it gets into your system. Also, gabapentin (Neurontin) has been mentioned above. It, too will help. I was on BOTH of those meds (Ami and Gabapentin) and my neuropathy was so much better then. I hear you on the hydros not being effective....
Avatar f tn From what I understand, there's a few differences. First, pregabalin cost a lot more than gabapentin. That's cause gabapentin is generic. Lyrica (pregablin) is effective for fibromyalgia when gabapentin is not. gabapentin often requires 1800mg / day to work (built up slowly over time), while pregabalin can be effective at 150mg TID. And the change of side effects build as the does is increased.
