Avatar f tn The data set forth in this study indicate that infants who are breastfed by mothers who take fluoxetine [Prozac] track a growth curve significantly below that of infants breastfed without the medication." Previously, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (1996) found that the birth weight of babies exposed to Prozac during pregnancy was less than those not exposed to Prozac during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn Hello there, Fluoxetine or Prozac belongs to the group of antidepressants called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. (SSRIS). These drugs tend to cause less sedation and have different side effects to older antidepressants. Fluoxetine or Prozac elevates mood, increases physical activity and restores interest in everyday pursuits. Prozac is used to treat depression , to reduce binge eating and purging activity ( bulimia nervosa) and to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Avatar f tn I replied to someone's question about this, but I think it's an important observation to share. Recently, there's been many published articles linking antidepressants with antibiotic-resistance, especially Prozac (Fluoxetine). Not sure if there's a connection between other medications, but I was on Prozac a couple years ago. After I stopped using it, my PATM reactions began. Could this be one of the causes?
Avatar f tn Increased sweating is a common side effect of Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic for Prozac so it is the exact same thing). For most patients the sweating settles down after a month or two after start of therapy...but not for all. Some patients that struggle with the sweating issue with take their Prozac at bedtime to try to minimize this side effect, but even that doesn't always work. Keep in mind that there are other anti-anxiety/depression choices out there if you are willing to try.
Avatar f tn Of all the SSRI antidepressants, Prozac (fluoxetine) is the easiest to get off of post-tx. Take it.
Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.
Avatar f tn I take 40mg of fluoxetine/Prozac and being an antidepressant I hear it makes mania in bipolar disorder much worse. I am currently being assessed for bipolar disorder but after starting on the antidepressant for a few months now I haven't noticed a significant change in mania symptoms whilst taking it compared to when I took no medication. Is it possible to have bipolar but not having worsened symptoms due to antidepressants?
1305597 tn?1275336446 citalopram (celexa), fluoxetine (prozac), sertraline (zoloft). Another medication that is sometimes added to SSRI in the treatment of depression is bupropion (welbutrin) and it has even been shown to cause a small weight loss over the first few months (it suppresses the appetite). However, if the eating disorder you are is either anorexia or bulimia this is not an option because during clinical trails bupropion caused a slightly increased rate of new seizures in those two eating disorders.
Avatar f tn SHOULD I STOP THE PROZAC, I JUST STARED, BUT I NEED THE PROZAC VERY BADLY. WILL THE PROZAC HARM MY PREGNANCY OR MY BABY. WOULD I BE SAFE TAKING IT? I AM VERY CONFUSED, I NEED ADVICE, PLEASE.

Avatar f tn From what I've heard antidepressants can make bipolar mania worse although sometimes during the depressive part of the bipolar cycle doctors will prescribe an antidepressant like Prozac. Just because you have mood swings doesn't necessarily mean you have bipolar. Bipolar is really difficult even for mental health professionals to diagnose. Symptoms can be similar to borderline personality disorder and also some subtypes of schizophrenia.
Avatar f tn These medications are also used to treat Trichotillomania and OCD and include clomipramine, fluoxetine (prozac), sertraline, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, nefazodone and venlafaxine. These new generation antidepressants - the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - are really safe. I'm on them myself. You can also try some behaviour therapy like habit reversal training and with Exposure and Response Prevention which some nail biters find helpful. Hope that helps!
Avatar m tn Chemically, the fluoxetine hydrochloride (prozac is the original trademarked term but the patent's expired so it can be made generically) ought to be identical, regardless of its makers' labelling, colouring, packaging (as a tablet or capsule). Prozac has been generic for a very long time, there are several companies now making generic versions. Precisely which were your before and after brands of generic prozac (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?
Avatar m tn I took the SSRI, Prozac (fluoxetine) for about twenty years. Suddently, I found it it was not working and instead of curbing depression, the depresssion actually intensified. Check the internet and look up the SSRI you may be taking and research what may be in store for you. My doctor decided to place me on 300 mg of Wellbutrin a day in place of the flouxetine. It will take a few weeks to see if it works.
Avatar f tn I was on fluoxetine (Prozac) for over a year from July 2011 then weaned off as was feeling and doing great and not wanting to be dependent on them, I had a bad week 5 week ago now with sleep so my doctor put me back on them and after 1/2 week felt great off 20mg at tea time, now this last week mainly from Wednesday I feel rubbish I know I'm getting 7/8 hours sleep but not feeling refreshed was wondering if changing to take it morning at 20mg and see if it works better or carry on tea time ta
Avatar f tn re misunderstanding how antidepressants work. This is common, because Eli Lilly, way back when Prozac first came out, and its affiliated psychiatrists claimed that the problem with depression was a lack of serotonin and the drug made more. But that's false -- the drugs don't make any more. They just prevent its breakdown and that allows it to linger longer in targeted receptors.
Avatar n tn The antidepressants mentioned by orphanedhawk will not only treat the interferon induced depression but will actually make you more tolerant of pain, which sounds like your real issue. Prozac (fluoxetine) is supposed to be the easiest one of this class of drugs (SSRIs) to wean off of later. Staying blissed out on opiates/opioids may sound like a great way to do treatment, but added to the other psych stuff interferon causes, it's probably not the best way to get through this.
1082697 tn?1260064616 Sometimes Zyprexa can be used with an antidepressant such as Fluoxetine (Prozac). Zyprexa can be dosed at different amounts depending on the diagnosis, so I do not know if your dose is low. Antidepressants often have many side effects listed. Legally, the manufacturers must list every single adverse event that occurred in patients who were taking their drug. This does not mean that you will experience all of the side effects listed.
Avatar f tn So when I found out I was pregnant I stopped taking my antidepressants and today (20 weeks pregnant) I went to my psychiatrist, after a long time, and he said it was fine to take the medication but I'm unsure. The medicine is Prozac (fluxotine) and I was wondering if it's really okay. Anyone have any experience in this?
Avatar m tn Hello Everyone. I am taking the following antidepressants and I'd like to know if I can discontinue these all of a sudden.
492307 tn?1214186739 This same effect has also been seen in patients receiving other selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors such as Paxil (paroxetine) and Prozac (fluoxetine). If you are on an antidepressant or thyroid hormone and your doctor wants to prescribe the other, be sure to discuss these issues.
