Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine side effects antidepressants

prozac

Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
Avatar f tn yes anti depressants can cause mania type reactions - usually in bipolar people, th'at is why I don't take them. Maybe get a second opinion on the diagnosis, that is not a particularly normal reaction for unipolar depression, When they were still giving bipolar patients anti-depressents regularly I tried every variety and had a particular problem with SSRI's.
Avatar m tn Hello there, Fluoxetine or Prozac belongs to the group of antidepressants called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. (SSRIS). These drugs tend to cause less sedation and have different side effects to older antidepressants. Fluoxetine or Prozac elevates mood, increases physical activity and restores interest in everyday pursuits. Prozac is used to treat depression , to reduce binge eating and purging activity ( bulimia nervosa) and to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Avatar m tn After quitting sertraline, all these went away, but the depression came back, so I tried Moclobemide, ending up with ever more severe side effects and more anxiety as well.
Avatar n tn I read about it and it appears it is not an SSRI. Did you have a specific reason for going on Lyrica?
Avatar f tn Be careful with the above advice. Never take 5-HTP if you're in withdrawal -- it will make it worse assuming it ends up creating a more efficient flow of fresh serotonin. After all, it's your brain adapting to using serotonin naturally again that is the cause of withdrawal, you don't want to do anything to make that harder. Also, 5-HTP, as with any substance, can have side effects.
Avatar m tn I do NOT tolerate these tablets as well and have also tried the 10mg capsules with the same effects (less effective more side effects- nausea, dizziness, fat face, racing thoughts, decreased libido, nightmares, sleep disturbances, etc.).. I have called several pharmacies but they all have the blue tablets too -_-... Th side effects persist even after a month on the different pill forms too.. Any options left? Or must I suck it up and take a pill that makes me sick or discontinue usage...
1082697 tn?1260064616 Antidepressants often have many side effects listed. Legally, the manufacturers must list every single adverse event that occurred in patients who were taking their drug. This does not mean that you will experience all of the side effects listed. Everyone is different and therefore patients may have different side effects with the same drug. A drug may have a side effect that occurs in me that you do not experience. This drug is safe and it seems that you are tolerating the drug well.
1243620 tn?1274790697 ve just been given a Prozac (fluoxetine) prescription from my dr. Has anyone been on this? What were the side effects? How hard was it to come off, how long did it take? Did you take any other meds with it? Most antianxiety + antidepressants cause my anxiety to shoot up even more and I end up a mess and taking about 5 or more different meds. I don't know what to do.
415867 tn?1323365503 These older types of antidepressants affect neurotransmitters, causing a broad range of side effects including significant weight gain. Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t.
1305597 tn?1275336446 What if you control your food intake do you still gain weight. I am on cymbalta and I am never hungry but it is giving me other bad side effects so I am afraid the doctor is going to change it and all the other options I have read about all say weight gain. I also have an eatting disorder and for me weight GAIN is not an option.
Avatar f tn I was on fluoxetine for over 6 years without any side effects, then i came off it for 6 months ,I then had to go back on it ,but it started to cause a stuffy blocked nose and ear and head pressure which then resulted in pain in and around the eye ,has anyone heard of this and has this happened to anyone else?
697574 tn?1273955747 The manufacturer has by law to list all known side-effects on their product data sheets, even rare side-effects. Remember many people get through their treatment without suffering any major side-effects and hopefully this will be the case with you. So I would relax and forget it. If you worry about a decrease in libido, you'll definitely get a decrease in libido!
697574 tn?1273955747 t get me wrong, it works wonders and the side effects disappear almost as soon as the positive effects start happening. Just keep to them and keep a positive attitude that they'll work and everything will be fine.
Avatar f tn Celexa came first, and when the patent ran out, they played with the structure, took some things out, and made Lexapro. Reportedly it has fewer side effects, but who knows if that's really true? I found Celexa easier to take myself, so it just goes to show. But the core of both drugs is the same. For me, the one drug that really put on the weight was Paxil. For others, it's different.
1817640 tn?1323045243 All of the medications have different side effects. I would journal what you are feeling so that you can keep track of it day-to-day. Since it does take 4-6 weeks for these medications to really start working, you may be having a combination of side effects and the anxiety you already had. Try to eat even though you don't feel like it. Even if it is a lot of small meals during the day. Of course if your nausea turns into vomiting, then you need to call your doctor ASAP.
Avatar f tn Not to worry though, give it a couple weeks atleast for your system regulate and get use to the new drug and its effects. Of course if after 2-3 weeks these side effects remain bothersome contact your doctor, it may be this is not the anti-depressant for you. I hope that helps. Good luck, Shanna please private message me anytime as I have much experience with fluoxetine.

Avatar f tn Oh and: "Preliminary research suggests that SAMe is more effective than placebo in treating mild to moderate depression and is just as effective as anti-depressant medications without the side affects frequently associated with the medications (headaches, sleeplessness and sexual dysfunction). Plus, antidepressants tend to take six to eight weeks to begin working, while SAMe seems to begin much more quickly than that.
897400 tn?1303329148 The adverse effects associated with tianeptine are similar in many respects to those of the SSRIs and minimal in comparison with the tricyclic antidepressants. The most common adverse effects are nausea, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness and changes in dreaming. Anticholinergic effects occur less often with tianeptine than with tricyclic agents. Hepatoxicity is rare.
Avatar m tn its been going on for 6 years and i have not taken any psychiatric drugs since 2007 -- I think olanzapine is a sexual suppressant that stops or dries up the sperm production or damages the sexual function of the body going by the effects it had on me. DO YOU HAVE A REMEDY? WHAT DRUG COULD OF CAUSED THIS DAMAGE? -- http://ehs.lilly.com/msds/msds_olanzapine_fluoxetine_combination_capsules.html Olanzapine - Sensitivity to olanzapine.
Avatar f tn I would say to give the meds a little more time to work, they say it can sometimes take up to 4 weeks. If you get to whre you just cant handle the side effects I would contact your doctor. Maybe she could give you some herbal remedies to try.
Avatar n tn m not big on side effects and all that. I have been taking paxil for 4 days now and on day two I realized that I was yawning so much that my jaw was starting to hurt (yawn) I cant stop. Im really really tired and the yawning is getting quite annoying. Is this normal and when does It usually stop? Im also obese weighing in at 257.4 lbs with only a 5'2" height.
