Fluoxetine efficacy

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine efficacy

Avatar f tn but it's a tad more complicated than is appropriate for this forum) There has been a VERY long lived debate about the efficacy of generic vs brand name meds. For most people, they seem to be able to use either interchangeably with little or no difference in the effectiveness. For other people, they report a BIG difference in the effectiveness of the generic and have to stick with a brand name, sometimes even a specific brand name. Some meds have more of a reputation for this than others.
Avatar m tn Weighing systematically the evidence available on both efficacy and tolerability, the authors suggest that sertraline and escitalopram "might" be appropriate first-choice treatments. ( source,The Lancet) Efficacy: 1. Mirtazapine (Remeron) 2. Escitalopram (Lexapro) 3.Venlafaxine (Effexor) 4. Sertraline (Zoloft) 5.Citalopram (Celexa) 6. Buproprion (Wellbutrin) 7. Paroxetine (Paxil) 8. Milnacipran (Savella) 9. Fluoxetine (Prozac) 10. Duloxetine (Cymbalta) 11. Fluvoxamine (Luvox) 12.
897400 tn?1303332748 Tianeptine, in dosages of 25 to 50 mg/day, has been investigated in patients with major depression, depressed bipolar disorder, dysthymia or adjustment disorder. It has equivalent antidepressant efficacy to several classical antidepressant agents (amitriptyline, clomipramine, imipramine, mianserin) and the SSRIs fluoxetine (in most patients), paroxetine and sertraline. Comparison with maprotiline indicated superior efficacy for tianeptine but dothiepin appeared superior in another study.
Avatar n tn Venlafaxine was shown to be effective for depression in multiple double blind studies. Venlafaxine is similar in efficacy to the tricyclic antidepressants amitriptyline (Elavil) and imipramine and it was better tolerated than amitriptyline. Venlafaxine appears to have efficacy similar or somewhat better than sertraline (Zoloft) and fluoxetine (Prozac) depending on the criteria and rating scales used.

4861077 tn?1360159739 I don't know how many fibro medication med trials you've done. There was a study that used fluoxetine with amitriptyline, and that group did better than the groups using only one or the other. amitriptyline, and its second generation, nortripyyline (less dry mouth & less next day somnolence/sleepiness), help by lengthening the time in stages 3&4 of sleep.
Avatar m tn Ive been diagnosed with General Anxiety since a year now, been on 20 mg fluoxetine which helped a lot to overcome panic attacks, many phobias and stuff that irritated me, now since 3 months I've been feeling like the effect of the medication is not really there anymore, I have some irrational thoughts and fears I had before essentially fearing of developing schizophrenia or paranoia which terrifies me.. I know this is common among anxiety sufferers but I just feel dreadful..

Carbamazepine toxicity is possible. Data have been conflicting and one study has reported no significant pharmacokinetic interaction. A case of toxic serotonin syndrome has occurred in one patient who was taking both carbamazepine and fluoxetine.
Avatar n tn Additionally, it emphasizes that since the safety and efficacy of these drugs in the expecting mother has never been tested, nor their use has been approved by the FDA, a careful evaluation of the risks and benefits of treatment should be conducted before psychotropic drugs are taken during pregnancy. 43) Psychotropic drug use in pregnancy and PERINATAL DEATH. 1561460 tn?1295244971 Hello Fluoexetine (Prozac) and abilify are mainly used in the treatments of depression, (more bipolar for abilify) but less commonly are used in Schizophrenia... Have the doctors actually said it IS Schizophrenia? It sounds like it could be Schizophrenia, but it also sounds like Bipolar or a rare form of Paranoid Depression, the classification of such is very difficult because they all can be so so similar in appearance. But rest assure, eventually (can take a while sometime...
242516 tn?1368227505 A fascinating research study was published today by Irving Kirsch of the University of Hull, questioning whether or not 4 popular antidepressants are any better than placebo, and found that they weren't any better. Here's the study: http://medicine.plosjournals.org/perlserv/?request=get-document&doi=10.1371/journal.pmed.
190885 tn?1333029491 Starting off with a cheap, generic, easy to wean off of SSRI, with a long history of safety/efficacy, like Prozac(fluoxetine) makes sense to me. Starting with high $, high powered, brand names that are diffucult to stop taking - again, not so much. Part of the rationale for doing triple drug tx (along with the higher probability of SVR) is that given a favorable IL28B and a favorable rapid response, you could shorten tx time and possibly eliminate the need for helper drugs.
Avatar f tn I posted the first post. After that terrible episode with Valdoxan in 2009 I have been doing great. All I take now is 30mg Cymbalta, Life is very good for me, especially my career which took off and my four wonderful children who are doing very well. I feel good to be in this place. I wonder did this drug help anyone ? It has been out there now a long time and i wonder did it do any good?
1571878 tn?1354953383 Because I am on fluoxetine (Prozac) for fibromyalgia management, I began TRIPPING BALLS. I had heard of robotripping in college, but I considered it an old wives' tale. WRONG. I thought tripping was fantastic, and enjoyed the rest of my Robitussin until my infection had cleared up. I would wake up in the mornings still tripping, and would have a blast exercising and going to school and work. I finished the bottle and moved on with life. But I couldn't.
939964 tn?1288020624 Dosing should begin at 75 mg two times a day (150 mg/day) and may be increased to 150 mg two times a day (300 mg/day) within 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability. Patients who do not experience sufficient benefit with 300 mg/day may be further increased to 225 mg two times a day (450 mg/day). Because LYRICA is eliminated primarily by renal excretion, the dose should be adjusted for patients with reduced renal function (creatinine clearance less than 60 mL/min .
15943846 tn?1444146884 (same SJW study, abstract quote) "Analysis of covariance analyses showed lower mean HAMD-17 scores at end point in the St John's wort group (n = 45; mean +/- SD, 10.2 +/- 6.6) compared with the fluoxetine group (n = 47; 13.3 +/- 7.3; P < 0.03) and a trend toward a similar finding relative to the placebo group (n = 43; 12.6 +/- 6.4; P = 0.096). " Which means, the sample size was sufficient for the conclusions to be considered by trained scientists as statistically supported.
Avatar n tn Black cohosh, which may have estrogenic effects, may have some efficacy, but long-term safety is unknown. Soy protein has been used, but its efficacy has not been confirmed. Other medicinal herbs, vitamin E, and acupuncture do not appear helpful. Regular exercise, stress avoidance, and relaxation techniques may improve sleep and reduce irritability; relaxation techniques can also reduce vasomotor symptoms.

Avatar m tn Another study that compared the efficacy and TEAS rates for olanzapine monotherapy, placebo, or a combination of olanzapine plus fluoxetine found a TEAS rate of 6% in the latter group; however, this switch rate did not differ from the placebo group53. Consistent with these findings, analyses of pooled data from databases of pharmaceutical industry research show that mood switches occur in 3.7% of patients treated with SSRIs33.

Avatar n tn Wow! That explains why when I fall asleep in front of the tv I feel that I've slept much better than without it--gotta be the reason. I was just telling someone about his two days ago! I said that an hour (asleep) in front of the tv is more restorative/restful than several hours in bed. Thanks for this info!
