fluoxetine and pmdd

I was given 20mg of Lovan 7 months ago, I had the 4 - 6 weeks of dry mouth, increased anxiety, insomnia and jitters but when they subsided the Fluoxetine (Lovan) worked to a certain degree. 7 weeks ago I quit smoking and after 2 weeks anxiety and depression increased again. I returned to the doctor who increase the fluoxetine (Lovan) to 40mg.

Are the symptoms I am experiencing a side effect of sertraline? I am on day 16 of taking 50mg sertraline after switching from cymbalta to try and find a saferdrug to try for pregnancy. Week one I was emotional but that settled down and week two was manageable and i felt generally calmer. However by day 14 anxiety smptoms worsened and i am feeling flushed in the face and tingly in arms and waking early feeling unable to cope with nerves and sweating. Should I stick it out?

For the past year, I've been having between 1 to 2 weeks of pure rage before my period. I've been looking into this and it may be PMDD, which is a much more severe version of PMS. People normally get more depressing thoughts, but I just get rage and to an alarming point. Did anyone have any suggestions for treatment? I've read that only 10% of women have this.

I had my thyroid checked about a year ago to find out why i was having fertility problems and it came back all clear. I went to see my doctor on Friday and was given 2 weeks of fluoxetine to try, not sure if they are working though as i've been upset again all tonight and i keep taking dizzy spells. I've got a lot going on at the moment, trying to plan a wedding and trying to get my BMI down from 38 to 25 so i can have the IVF treatment on the NHS in Scotland.

If you took a lot of both drugs, Melatonin and fluoxetine. Would/could they do any serious damage? I am on fluoxetine and take melatonin regularly.

i know this is for the ladies...but i'm sure you aren't alone. this reminded me of a product out thats extremely expensive called sarafem for the treatment of PMDD. Sarafem is a brand for fluoxetine which is just prozac and as a generic, it's only $4 at the pharmacy i work at. but some doctors write scripts for sarafem which is insanely expensive compared to the $4 fluoxetine.

Yes I suffer from the same problems as you describe above and have been on and off fluoxetine for several years for major depression and I can reassure you that the side effects as far as increased anxiety at the beginning of treatment are common and I have had to take an antianxiety medication for the first couple of weeks to combat this effect. In 2-3 weeks it should subside and that's usually when I also start to feel the desired effect of fluoxetine.

hello, just wondered if anyone has any advice, im currently taking 40mg of fluoxetine but feel this is not quite enough, my doc wont prescribe me 60mg dose but instead has given me 10mg buspirone to take alongside the fluoxetine. has anybody taken this combination of meds and is it helpful?

not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..

I also suffer with pmdd and yes a lot of the symptoms mimic early pregnancy I have one child so I know what early pregnancy feels like I notice breasts tenderness nausea sometimes vomiting a lot of strange cravings before my diagnoses I thought I was crazy especially when I hadn't been having sex with anyone during the time with this disorder you really have to listen to your body

Hello, welcome to medhelp! I am sorry you suffer PMDD, that's hard. I know that in my area, there is a subspecialty of psychiatrist that specializes in woman's issues specifically. Identifying and treating PMDD is becoming more common but has a long way to go. People joke about having PMS but the implications of PMDD are far greater as you know. I've never suffered it but have a friend who has.

Drink plenty of fluids, eat frequent small meals, fresh fruits and vegetables, cut down on caffeine and eat Calcium rich foods include dairy products, dark green vegetables, nuts, grains, beans and canned salmon and sardines (with bones). Calcium supplements may also be used. You can take OTC pain killers for the muscle cramps.

I was just curious to see if anyone else has had problems with severe PMS (or PMDD), along with their diagnosis of complex ovarian cysts? My cycle has been irregular for the past 6 mths. (been 3 mths. since my last period) I am 48 yrs. old, so I know this can be expected at this age. I do naturally suffer from anxiety and depression, but it was well treated with medication. On Thursday, I had a large cyst removed, along with my right ovary, and surgery to "scrape out" the endometriosis. I actually thought this would be a relief because most of my depressive symptoms came prior and during my period. I've been anti-depressants for years, but this is so different. I just feel hopeless and empty.

I have been diagnosed with PMDD in my mid forties and have recently discovered a history of bipolar disorder on both mine and my husband's side of the family. In doing some research and reading books on this disorder, it seems like most of the symptoms are the same in both disorders. The only real difference I can see if the frequency of the cycles as women with PMDD cycle pretty much every month where those with bipolar disorder cycle much less frequently.

m not past menpause yet. How do I know if I still need this drug for pmdd or if thew pmdd was just a transitional problem?

No MMahon I am not on birth control but I do know this girl who has severe PMDD and her doctor put her on birth control and it is helping with the PMDD

s lasted 3 months, it is probably PMDD...and maybe the Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo was helping the symptoms of PMDD, but now that she has switched, the symptoms are becoming visible. Tell her to go to her doctor, to see if it is PMDD.

My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.

She doesn't have to tell her diagnosis,no, but she would, we're very close and talk often, esp about this. The doctor didn't tell her a diagnosis, except PMDD. She was on Prozac before for the PMDD and the doctor thinks that caused the suicidal thoughts, as she's young and it sometimes has the reverse effect in teens.

Concomitant use of tramadol and serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as fluoxetine increases the risk of seizures and serotonin syndrome. It may also reduce the pain relieving properties of the tramadol. If you must take tramadol, do not take it at the same time as fluoxetine. Try to take tramadol and imitrex a few hours apart from the fluoxetine.

I am 38 years old and 4 and half months pregnant with my first baby. Before getting preg. I was taking 20 mg of fluoxetine once a day. When I first found out I was preg. i stopped. I recently experienced panic attacks and my doctor prescribed the same medication. Is it safe for my unborn child? I am very concerned please advise me!

Lately, I have been having bradycardia issues, specifically in the evening time. My pulse is usually between 48 and 52 beats per minute... which is a bit low for me. I am taking the medicine for hypertension... but since heart disease runs in my family and fish oil has some pretty good evidence behind it, I thought I would take it 2. Any comments, suggestions?
