Avatar f tn I was prescribed Fluoxetine about 6 months ago for (ironically) compulsive eating and low mood. I had terrible side effects for the first month (exhausted, depressed, just wanted to lie in bed all day). The only plus was that I lost my appetite. I stuck it out and once the side effects cleared I felt great - more sociable/connected to people and increased confidence (and libido!).
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I'm in the uk and have suffered with anxiety and a phobia of thunderstorms, I take fluoxetine and gabapentin, this anxiety is now out of hand as it's just been said that we are due for severe thunderstorms in two days time.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with depression approx 4/5 years ago and currently take 40mg fluoxetine daily. I live with my partner who is very supportive and caring. However I was made redundant in March 2010 and was receiving job seekers allowance (contribution based) but I was only entitled to this for 6 months. I have been advised that we are now entitled to nothing - no assistance with mortgage, council tax etc.
Avatar f tn It's meant to be a better vision of escitalopram as I'm in the uk they don't do lexapro it's cipralex here I'm on day 5 and no better yet just want things to start working really iv been told up to 2 weeks but can be as soon as 6-8 days the only side effect is the insomnia and not being able to sleep that's why iv been given zopiclone for that but don't want to have to depend on it for a long time, iv been through all this before on many different anti depressants with only venlafaxine and fluox
897400 tn?1303332748 It is not available for Rx in the USA, UK, or Canada, but has been used for over 20 years in Europe, Asia, South America, and elsewhere. I wonder if anyone has used it and what their experience has been.
4861077 tn?1360159739 I don't know how many fibro medication med trials you've done. There was a study that used fluoxetine with amitriptyline, and that group did better than the groups using only one or the other. amitriptyline, and its second generation, nortripyyline (less dry mouth & less next day somnolence/sleepiness), help by lengthening the time in stages 3&4 of sleep.
Avatar f tn My GP isn't happy for me to take cymbalta in pregnancy and I don't have many options left. I have tried fluoxetine and had the syndrome and was really ill. Can't take citalapram. Help! Thanks Liz (in uk).
Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
Avatar m tn In another study, the combination of EPA plus the prescription antidepressant fluoxetine (Prozac) was better than either EPA or fluoxetine alone for treating major depression in a short-term (8-week) study of 60 people. However, a study of people with congestive heart failure and depression failed to show any additional benefit from EPA (930 mg) and DHA (750 mg) daily when added to treatment with the prescription antidepressant sertraline (Zoloft).
Avatar f tn One more thing - the doctor upped my dose of Fluoxetine from 20mg to 40mg a couple of weeks ago, after being on the former for almost a year. Please help me... I'm really at a loss.
1978102 tn?1334247367 Hi Everyone, I live in the UK. I have been diagnosed with ADHD and Anxiety over the years, but recently I've been obsessing over my heart rate.
Avatar n tn He also suffers from noise anxiety and becomes extremely destructive ( tearing house apart behavior)around loud noises(fireworks, gunshots, thunder etc). He has been taking Gabapentin and Fluoxetine for the noise anxiety for 1.5 years. We have moved him into a secure safe room and that limits the destruction. I'm looking for any advice on other things that I could do to stop the seizures. Since I started the meds , 4 days ago he is occasionally weak in the rear legs .
Avatar f tn I feel like I'm losing the plot and have seen my Dr for help but they have not done anything other than keep me on the beta blockers. I was put on Fluoxetine 2 yrs back but it didn't work very well, it made me feel very sick, Citalopram also caused me some problems as one night I actually did have a fit on it so they took me off that too. I don't know what else to go for medication wise but it is ruining my life.
Avatar f tn I doubt my doc will prescribe two antidepressants at the same time. They don't seem to do that in the UK. He went out on a limb prescribing wellbutrin for me as its not licensed here. So I doubt he will add something to it or with something. I found Escitalopram caused eating, sleeping and horrendous stomach issues. Have also tried. Trazodone Amitryptaline Fluoxetine Setraline Duloxetine Agomelatine Venlafaxine. And many more with varying issues. Mainly tachycardia, weight and sedation.

Avatar m tn fluoxetine) Luvox (generic name: fluvoxamine) Ticlid (generic name: ticlopidine) Diflucan (generic name: fluconazole) Nizoral (generic name: ketoconazole) VFEND (generic name: voriconazole) Intelence (generic name: etravirine) Felbatol (generic name: felbamate) Patients taking Plavix should not stop taking any of these drugs -- including Nexium and Prilosec -- until speaking with a doctor. It's dangerous to stop taking any medication without medical advice.
Avatar n tn At Xmas I had a bad attack of anxiety and the jerks started. I was given fluoxetine (Prozac) and whilst it improved my mood, the hypnic jerks seemed to get worse. I stopped taking fluoxetine after 4 weeks (doctor warned I might regret this). I feel OK but the hypnic jerks are still with me. Temazepam helps but it's addictive and eventually stops working.
Avatar f tn I was put on Fluoxetine 20mg, but at the time I didnt think it was working. Somehow something changed and I'm not even sure how long it took, but from then until now (I'm in my third year of college now) I was fine. I felt happy, have a great boyfriend and loved socializing and going out. I started feeling strange again on Friday 20th Nov 09, like drained and exhausted, and the feeling got worse (i wasn't experiencing depersonalization at this point).
Avatar f tn If you're struggling to come to terms with your pregnancy it sounds as though talking it through with someone would help you. I'm based in the UK so I wouldn't know how it works in the States but surely you could get a referral to a therapist? Becoming pregnant is a huge thing to get your head around. It changes the rest of your life, permanently. I have wanted a baby since I left high school, I'm now 29 and married to a lovely man. We actively tried to conceive and I was desperate to.
5677775 tn?1372623720 I really hope your doctor was informayive and helpful and I understand how hard a time you must be having. Here in the UK fluoxetine is commonly used for anxiety, depression and OCD and doctors here suggest 6 months before coming back and discussing any changes. It's really important you give your meds a chance to work, they may be the kick start you need to get you to therapy or counselling, which as a great way of addressing your anxiety and OCD.
Avatar n tn 10 years back when I had my first major PA after all the necessary medical test I was diagnosed with PA disorder. At that time psychiatrist prescribed me 60 mg fluoxetine (Antidepressant) and 6 mg bromazepam (Anti-Anxiety). In 2 weeks I was in state of Mania and started talking a lot, and was feeling very high all the time. My PAs were gone. I did got major headaches and irritable mood with anger. But I felt on the top of the world. Then after 3 months my dose of fluxt.
Avatar n tn 47 years old, severe depression - on fluoxetine, hospitalised with chest pains - told it was anxiety. No period for 2 years...told it was menopause. Hair loss - head, pubic hair all gone, eyebrows too only half the size they were. Tingling, numbness periodic sharp pain in hands and feet, and sometimes legs. Itching rash on hands which flares up and dies down daily. Extreme fatigue - sleeping a LOT. Feel as though my throat has something in it. Hoarse voice but not all the time.
Avatar f tn They then called him and said there was nothing more thay can do for him and they did nothing to help him at all in there. He has been on fluoxetine for 3 yrs at varying levels, but it doens't seem to be working. He is currently on 60mg a day. He is currently in Wales, living with his sister, which is 6hrs drive from me. She is struggling with the care for him as well now.
1243620 tn?1274794297 Hi Diana, You are quite right. Many people do find St John's Wort to be very effective. Clinical Trials here in the UK found it to be at least as effective as Fluoxetine (Prozac). I wish you the very best of luck and hope that you find it just as effective as you did before. Take care.
1980932 tn?1335111863 I don't know much about them, but hear that in the UK they have something called The Samaritans who are supposed to be good at dealing with this. I would google and check them out.
Avatar f tn Since depression or even before, I always slept a lot, I used to need 9h/10h hours sleep at night, but I never had had this kind of insomnia/hypersomnia symptoms. It is driving me crazy. And now, just to help, I moved to UK (I'm from a tropical country) and since two days ago I can't get out of bed or I fall sleep during the day. I'm not feeling depressed or sad... please help.
1228164 tn?1267423226 I've only ever been offered two types of SSRI's those being Citalopram and Fluoxetine. It's been that way for a friend of mine who also has depression, like that's all the doctors seem comfortable prescribing. I've pushed for other treatments from my GP on many occasions and all I seem to get is reluctance. Meanwhile I'm stuck on benefits and barely able to make ends meet, having times when I just don't know what to do with myself and everything seems so pointless.
Avatar m tn The problem is that we were detained in the UK for improper paper work and DEPORTED back to the US. Long story... anyways.... Overnight they stuck us in a international imigration prison. I didnt do well in there. Started getting panic attacks and anxiety. Came home and followed up with my doc who perscribed me lorazepam. 3x day 1mg. Felt the axienty gone in about 10 days and stopped taking the lorazepam 4 days ago....keep in mind, during the last 15 days I havent taken OC or Subox.
Avatar f tn Hi there and Thanks for the advice, i have been given various anxiety meds including amitriptyline although it was low dose 20mg per day, also tried citalopram and fluoxetine......they havent helped. I can relate to the stress thing but if thats the case how do you break the chain to stop the reaction!
