Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine for the menopause

prozac

Avatar m tn I am taking fluoxetine 40 mg and Bupropion 300 extended release. I started a new job about a month ago and have been going full steam ahead. I have had 4 days off and have woke up anxious the last three of them as well as feeling a little depressed. Doc seems to think I was keeping my mind very busy and now I have time to think I am crashing. Anyway it got me thinking about my meds. The Fluoxetine has put about 5 kilos on me.I really don't like this.
Avatar f tn i know this is for the ladies...but i'm sure you aren't alone. this reminded me of a product out thats extremely expensive called sarafem for the treatment of PMDD. Sarafem is a brand for fluoxetine which is just prozac and as a generic, it's only $4 at the pharmacy i work at. but some doctors write scripts for sarafem which is insanely expensive compared to the $4 fluoxetine.
Avatar m tn He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets. The doctor has now prescribed him three 2.0mg tablets of fluoxetine and the same 0.
924711 tn?1290266557 Of course I am depressed due to all of that going on, all diagnosed since menopause a few years back. The hep C has been dormant for at least 20 yrs, has to have been that long since exposed. Got any suggestions for me? Besides a gunshot to the head? Nah, just joking!
Avatar m tn The bupropion could be increased to 300mg to help with daytime sleepiness. I don't think the sleepiness is caused by being on fluoxetine rather than Lamictal but it's more likely that you developed a tolerance to bupropion. Any change in your medications and/or dosage must be addressed with a qualified physician.
6021583 tn?1413069126 I went to the doctors and saw a new doctor 5 weeks ago and he said he would take me off trazadone 50mg and to start taking fluoxetine i asked him when i take the fluoxetine he said today and in 4 weeks he will cut down my trazadone. Avatar f tn Thank you so much for your reply, it's really helpful, and given me some hope. I've been on Diazepam for years, so I daren't stop taking them now, at least until I've got through this stressful period in my life. I asked my GP for liquid Fluoxetine, but he said it was too expensive, and just to break open the capsules!! I'll persevere with it, and see how it goes. Thanks again, and all the best to you.

1817640 tn?1323045243 i am taking fluoxetine for anixety, panic i feel sick and nausea all day , i can only eat a little bit then i feel very full. i am also having heartburn with this does anyone else take this medication and if so do you have or know if these symptoms are normal?
Avatar f tn There's no such thing as a nervous breakdown. You need to get into therapy. As for the medication, you won't know if it'll work until you try it -- we all react differently. Alcohol increases depression and stomach problems, so that's a problem, not a remedy.
Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.

1063764 tn?1272821064 I do remember a paper a couple of years back where the author(s) suggested using fluoxetine and melatonin together for the management of neuropathic pain. I have not heard if anyone has done a study of this therapy, and, from my experiences with neuropathic pain, I doubt that this is a very efficacious combination. I hope that this is of some help.
Avatar f tn of fluoxetine each a.m. for depression/ OCD. The skin picking has been periodic but now is becomming more of a problem - I can't seem to stop. Is it okay to take inositol along with fluoxetine?
Avatar n tn Ive been to the doctors and they put me on Fluoxetine tablets. One a day until they tell me to stop. However I've had two so far but want to stop. I know you have to slowly come off of them but if I've only had two can I just stop? Please help!
Avatar f tn Hi, im a 57 yr old female at 5'8.5", 125 lbs. i eat very well, watch my sugar intake, and exercise 5-6 x a week. I take 20mg of fluoxetine every morning as well as 88 ml of synthroid (started thyroid meds about a year ago,) and on hormone therapy (patch progesterone/dim) for 3 years (post-menopausal.) My guilty pleasure has always been a glass or two of w/r wine a day (while cooking and during dinner.
Avatar f tn Yes I suffer from the same problems as you describe above and have been on and off fluoxetine for several years for major depression and I can reassure you that the side effects as far as increased anxiety at the beginning of treatment are common and I have had to take an antianxiety medication for the first couple of weeks to combat this effect. In 2-3 weeks it should subside and that's usually when I also start to feel the desired effect of fluoxetine.
Avatar n tn Do not stop taking fluoxetine without talking to your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking fluoxetine, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as mood changes, irritability, agitation, dizziness, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, anxiety, confusion, headache, tiredness, and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
983030 tn?1261353062 You could also try the drug interaction tool here at medhelp or try asking one of the forum experts for advice. I think that you should run any changes past your doctor first though.
Avatar f tn help you or if you are still wanting to take all the pills, go to the ER and bring the fluoxetine with you. If you feel that strongly about taking a lot of pills and you called the dr. and the dr. hasn't answered yet, just go to the ER and bring your phone with you. In the ER. the ER dr will call your dr. also. If someone can take you to the ER, that is even better. Don't be alone right now.
Avatar f tn I've just started up fluoxetine (prozac) for the second time and am having trouble functioning. Does anyone know when they started to feel ANY relief from anxiety? also, I really need to gain some weight back so does fluoxetine give anyone an INCREASED appetite? Thank you for your help! Also, I'm taking it at night... do any of you think that is a bad idea?
Avatar f tn ve been taking 40mg propanolol 3 times a day for 2 years for anxiety and have just been prescribed 20mg of fluoxetine to be taken daily to tackle depression but the doctor never said anything about stopping taking the propanolol, although everything I've found online says it's a dangerous combination. Is it safe to take them both together or should I be replacing the propranolol with the fluoxetine?
Avatar f tn I have problems w/ADHD, Anxiety that I take medication for (dexadrin and fluoxetine) and assumed that the symptoms were probably associated w/it. i also have problems w/severe menstrual cramps,, hair loss, and hair breakage. The list goes on. However, while searching for info on the profuse sweating, I found that I had symptoms of hyperthyroidism. My symptoms of ADHD have worsened and now I wonder if it isn't my thyroid. What do you think? And........what should I do?
543959 tn?1301315419 we just started the lexapro slowly as i slowly decreased the fluoxetine. fluoxetine stays in your body for several weeks, so withdrawal effects are less likely (and/or less severe) than with other SSRIs. i would speak to your dr. about a slow transition from one med to the other... or give the buspirone a try. buspirone is supposed to be similar to valium in terms of it's anti-anxiety properties. so if you are having trouble with anxiety or panic, this might be a good combination for you.
Avatar m tn I have been on Fluoxetine (40mg, 1xD) for some time now for Chronic Depressive Disorder. But lately I have been having bouts of depression again that last for several days. I am in a funk right now and can't seem to get out of it. I have no outside stresses right now other than the usual work and home stuff, but nothing major. I only drink socially every once in a while and don't do drugs other than the Fluoxetine and Aprazolam (as needed).
