Fluoxetine and anxiety
Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine and anxiety
I'm posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxietyand depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
i am taking fluoxetine for anixety, panic i feel sick and nausea all day , i can only eat a little bit then i feel very full. i am also having heartburn with this does anyone else take this medication and if so do you have or know if these symptoms are normal?
I've just been prescribed Fluoxetine 20mg a day, and been taking them for 11 days now. The anxiety symptoms have worsened and I feel v anxious and queasy quite a bit of the day. I've read that these are passing symptoms and that these side effects will go after a couple of weeks. can any one offer a word of kind reassurance? Thank you.
I started fluoxetine about two months ago and my anxiety got worse but depression got better so my psychiatrist added 10 mg of buspar 5 in the morning and 5 at night (just 2 weeks on that) it has helped me get through the day and helped me get out of the house a little I see my psychiatrist on Tuesday so I will let you know what happens but I would try the two together because they do seem to work well together
My daughter has been on fluoxetine for several years for anxiety. Her last appointment, with a new MD, she indicated that she was having trouble with lack of motivation, sleeping too much, etc.
He had her add Wellbutrin once a day for a week, then increase to twice a day after that.
Since she has started on the Wellbutrin, she feels "jumpy", can't sleep, has abdominal pains.
Hello, I am currently taking fluoxetine for anxietyand depression. I started at 10mg a month ago and after 2 weeks had to go down to 5mg because of the anxiety getting much worse and my moods getting so low. I was doing well on the 5mg for a couple of weeks so I now went back to 10mg as my doctor would like to see me get to 20mg. It has been 5 days since the increase and the anxiety is really bad again and my mood seems very low. I take lorazapam along with this to help get through it.
Two hours later I became peranoid and panicky. I calmed down after a couple more hours and slept only to wake up every half hour the rest of the night with severe nightmares. I have not had nightmares since I was little and am not under any stress. I am suspecting a possible drun interaction of some kind. But, then again, I have been diagnosed with a mental disorder :P Can anyone offer any similar experiences or suggestions?
Hi i am on day 4 of fluoxetineand feel awful. My thoughts andanxiety have got worse, is this normal at the beginning? I want to give them time to work. Also physically i totally ache, especially my back and neck, as if ive done a really hard workout. I have also had a headache and blurred vision. Is this side effects?
Once I do fall asleep I have bizarre dreams and I wake up with my heart racing and panicky thoughts going through my head. By the time the morning comes I've been rustled awake several times and overall view paniced and with a sense of depersonalization. I take 25 mg of hydroxyzine and about 30 - 45 minutes later actually feel ok the rest of the day. I do have to admit that one day I did have three drinks with friends over the course of 12 hours.
My question is if these symptoms are normal?
I used to take Fluoxetine 20mg ( for depression andanxiety) for a few years, but now I stop as I am 7 weeks pregnant. But my work is extremely stressful and I am finding very hard to cope with all the stress at the moment. Is anyone else taking anti-depressives while pregnant? Any advice?
The fatigue and exhaustion may be triggering your adrenal glands so you can keep going and going and going..this adrenaline response may be what is manifesting as your symptoms of anxiety.
What do you do..first check your hemoglobin to see if you need additional iron. Before you go to sleep, place a note pad and a pen or pencil at your bedside..many times I used to wake up with My heart racing, lump in my throat, pins and needles. Many thoughts coarsing through My mind.
, and she took me off Zoloft immediately and put me on Fluoxetine 20 mg. X 1 week and then bumped me to 40 mg. I experiended severe nausea and no appetite. 6 weeks later, I still have nausea from the Fluoxetine. Panic attacks are a little better but I am beginning to think I should have stayed on Zoloft because I can't recall feeling this bad. I am now seeing a psychiatrist and they have taken me down to 30 mg. of Fluoxetine in hopes of helping my nausea.
I would say if you are not having withdrawals and you are doing fine, i see no reason to continue on meds for any other reason than to get you addicted. I have depression andanxietyand if i could quit and be fine i would, problem is i have taken the meds so long that i am physically addicted to them.....thats my opinion...been dealing with this for 11 years..
So this morning iv put my foot down and told my doctor I knew fluoxetine was doing nothing for me like it had done 3 years ago and needed a change after persuading him and listing all the side effects I was getting he changed me to mirtazapine 30mg to be taken a night with a good drink of liquid my post really is to anyone out there have they had this change and was it better for them?
or is that just anxiety? Cuz I usually feel best when I wake up in the morning before I've taken that pill, and by the end of the day I feel all jittery. So could it have anything to do with the medicine? or is it just that sleeping all night has calmed me down?
My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetineand xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night
So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
hi, I've been suffering from periods of depression andanxiety for the last 5 years. To cut a long story short it came to a head last month and decided to start a course of Sertraline (50mg). As most people taking anti depressants would say it takes 1-2 months to get the benefits and also putting up with possible side effects. I personally had the side effects of extreme tiredness/ lethargy, lack of motivation and slight Nausea.
I am also taking lorazepam but have been taking it for 5 years as needed, and I feel like its not working as well anymore.
I feel literally like running around and jumping out of my skin and it doens't feel good. My doctor told me that sometimes you feel worse when you start a medication before it feels better. Have you experienced that?
Please let me know. I feel tweaked out. I can't relax enough to sleep!
I believe your wellbutrin is already targeting serotonin to a lesser extent than ssris, so your psychiatrist can advise if this is a good idea, but know that welllbutrin is perhaps the most stimulating antidepressant and Prozac is the most stimulating ssri, so if you're prone to anxietyand hypertension it's already not the best combination you're on. Do discuss this with experts.
I've been on different SSRI's throughout the past 10 years; however, fluoxetine has worked the best and I've stayed with it the longest. My question is regarding the side effects. Occasionally I will notice an internal restless feeling -- usually lasts a few days. It's almost like I feel kind of antsy. My sleep is not disturbed -- I sleep normal as usual. I've also noticed, and have in the past, that I have some twitches. Various muscles in my body will twitch from time to time.
I noticed I was agitated, had anxiety, and was depressed for no apparent reason. She explained to me she had other patients with similar problems. So she contacted the insurance to ONLY designate name brand from now on. But I am very sensitive to medications and will get many small side effects. I'm sure you will be just fine. It could also possibly be that my body was so used to the name brand for years that it didn't accept the generic, I don't know, just a theory.
Have just been prescribed 20mg Fluoxetine by my doctor and have been on this for just over 2 weeks. If anything my anxiety has increased slightly and I've lost my appetite. Could anyone tell me if this is pretty normal for the first couple of weeks??
I've also had anxiety along with this but recently my doc suggested that I try prozac to help my anxietyand although skeptical, I finally agreed to give it a try. I've been on it for about 4 weeks now and have noticed my blood pressure slowly increasing. It's now been around 140/98 and I'm wondering if this is temporary or if anyone else has had this happen to them?
Hiya, I wouldnt worry too much as i suffered from really bad anxiety attacks in which i suffered every symptom from racing heart, dizziness, churning stomache, blurred vision, tight chest and full blown panic attacks which were so intense that i could not leave my house and sat at home crying and feeling like i was dying and my GP put me on fluoxetine 20mg and after a couple of days i felt much worse.
