Fluoxetine and melatonin

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine and melatonin

1063764 tn?1272824664 Hello, I have a question about taking melatonin and fluoxetine in the same day. I've been on fluoxetine for almost a year now. I stopped taking melatonin when I started it because I read a few articles that it might potentially interfere. I was jw if anyone here take the two, and what your doctors have said or side effects you've had. Thanks.
Avatar f tn not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..
Avatar f tn Are you taking any other medications that may be immunosuppressive and lead you to have UTI? I see you are also on melatonin. What are you taking it for? Melatonin is generally considered safe for most adults to take short term. However, it does have a lot of drug and disease interactions. For patients with depression, melatonin may worsen the depression symptoms.
Avatar m tn In addition to their potential as stand-alone agents, a review of clinical studies investigating the use of supplements along with antidepressant medications (including SSRI drugs such as fluoxetine and sertraline and tricyclic drugs such as amitriptyline) found that SAMe, EPA from fish oil, methylfolate and vitamin D may increase the benefits of these drugs (Sarris, Am J Psychiatry 2016).
Avatar m tn I have been having trouble sleeping in the last three months due to stress/anxiety/depression. I have tried OTC benadryl, valerian root, melatonin, zoplicone, lorazepam. I seen a clinical puschologists today and she got the doctor to write a script for seroquil 25 mg. Anybody ever try this? Apparently it is not an approved use, but they say it works for insomnia at reduced doses.
5677775 tn?1372623720 I really hope your doctor was informayive and helpful and I understand how hard a time you must be having. Here in the UK fluoxetine is commonly used for anxiety, depression and OCD and doctors here suggest 6 months before coming back and discussing any changes. It's really important you give your meds a chance to work, they may be the kick start you need to get you to therapy or counselling, which as a great way of addressing your anxiety and OCD.
Avatar f tn A couple of months ago I started on the pill again as my flow got heavy, then stopped as it died down. I have to take 20mg of Fluoxetine and 6mg of melatonin daily. My period started over a month ago and I am still on. I've put all I could think of that would affect it above. I'm really scared.
Avatar f tn ) are you taking anything to help you with sleep...like melatonin ? it is not habit forming...and the amino acids and vitamins can help you also with the depression...exercise is a good way to produce endorphines and help you with your mood...
Avatar n tn I would try a combination of fluoxetine (generic prozac) and behavioral modification. Bark Busters can help you with the training and there # is 8005002275.
Avatar f tn allow yourself to feel it, and say it is just a feeling it will go away and I found out that if you have anxiety at night and trouble sleeping, I take 10mg of melatonin and that helps a lot with anxiety.
Avatar m tn I tried trazodone when I first started detoxing........it actually made me wired and kept me awake. I take Melatonin and Valerian at night....it really helps. I also read at night...it gets my mind off of things and relaxes me enough to fall asleep. I don't sleep a lot..usually about 4-5 hours a night...but it seems to be all I need anymore. When I was taking pills, I would sleep 10 hours a night! I still get real bad RLS at night and the Valerian seems to help that.
Avatar f tn I have also tried more natural rememdies like Gaba, melatonin, passion flower and Valerian. None seem to work and I have come to the conclusion that maybe I just need to talk to someone about it.
Avatar f tn Anyone have this? It is ruining my life and I think if I don't recite the phrases bad things will happen and it bothers me the whole day and I have to keep on doing it! I know it is my ocd but does anyone have advice on how to end this????????????
Avatar n tn On my days off of work, I try not taking anything and just sleep in the next day. I have also tried Melatonin and Valerian Root. They are natural sleep aids. I havent had much luck with them. The Lunesta doesnt cause the weird behaviors for me that Ambien sometimes causes. If I dont go to sleep right away with Ambien, I tend to do odd things. Its like sleep walking but Im not fully asleep. I remember bits an pieces of things the next day. I hope things get better for you.

Avatar f tn Hi everyone I have terrible anxiety and am feeling bad about myself. My doctor prescribed me some Lexapro but I'm scared to take it I just can't bring myself to..maybe it will help me but I'm scared :( The only thing keeping me sane is Xanax but that's not how I want to live. I sometimes can't go in stores because I'm sure people will stare or talk about me and I don't like how I look. I am openly gay but I am not butch I'm more on the feminine side I was bullied in high school really bad.
Avatar n tn Her pain has never changed, never moved - always across her forehead, in her temples and behind her eyes. Reading and concentrating make it worse. Sometimes it's worse from out of the blue. She awakens with a pain level of 7 and sometimes up to a 9. It stays about and 8 or 9 all day. She takes Percocet when it's too horrible to tolerate anymore. The Percocet drops the pain down to maybe a 6 or 7.
Avatar n tn Recently in my relationship with my fiance we have made a decision to separate his 8 year old from my GAD kiddo until Caleb gets REAL help. And by real help I mean something OTHER than counseling and psych intervention and all the other useless stuff that seems to be doing NOTHING for him. So...what medication do I put this kid on.

Avatar f tn Since depression or even before, I always slept a lot, I used to need 9h/10h hours sleep at night, but I never had had this kind of insomnia/hypersomnia symptoms. It is driving me crazy. And now, just to help, I moved to UK (I'm from a tropical country) and since two days ago I can't get out of bed or I fall sleep during the day. I'm not feeling depressed or sad... please help.
1243620 tn?1274794297 Clinical Trials here in the UK found it to be at least as effective as Fluoxetine (Prozac). I wish you the very best of luck and hope that you find it just as effective as you did before. Take care.
Avatar n tn I have a history of bad depression an the doc had me on the fluoxetine for about 2 weeks then I made a mistake of drinking a redbull and I had bad side effects. I went numb from head to toe couldnt move could hardly breath an my nervers were so shot I shook. my legs hurt and now that Im not taking it I have been off it for a week and I get trimmors my hole body feels like its on fire I get musel cramps pains every where still have trouble breathing from time to time get confused and forgetful.
Avatar m tn L-Tryptophan is one of the essential amino acids - this is something we cannot produce in the human body, but require in order to live balanced healthy lives. Serotonin and Melatonin, two vital compounds in human brain function, are produced in the body as a result of the metabolism processing L-Tryptophan. 5-HTP is not Tryptophan re-branded. 5-HTP is the result of metabolism of L-Tryptophan. When it was banned by the FDA, this was the same week that promotion of Prozac began in full swing.
544292 tn?1268886268 Welcome ....
Avatar n tn I have been taking the lower dosage coupled with 10 mg of Melatonin and it seems to be working pretty good. There doesn't seem to much to do about this disorder and it really is tough.
20003388 tn?1515169640 At first I thought maybe my gabapentin was interfering, it does, sort of, work with the gaba system. I am off gabapentin now and have been for over a month and still my diazepam has no effect. I can take 20 mg and be wide awake with a completely clear head (albeit with anxiety raging). The only other med I take that involves the gaba/glutamate system is lamotrigine, could that be the culprit?
Avatar m tn how much, how many to take, any repeats, how long you've been taking them, when you would've run out at the prescribed dose) you found them very effective, but you can't sleep without them, and could you switch over to a Valium taper and get off them for good. Have you tried melatonin? You can take, say, 6mg with maybe a bit less lorazepam, and after your taper, you might find it's enough to get you to sleep.
Avatar n tn I was on fluxotine (I think it was called ) for a year five yeats ago, and it worked and I'm glad I took it during that period of my life as I needed something, i tapered off the drug and got no withdrawal symptoms. My doctor does not prescribe this one any more as he says the amphetamine-like side effects are too strong.
20003388 tn?1515169640 I take a whole food (none of that chemical crap) multi-vitamin, 3000 mg a day high quality Omega-3, 5000-10000 IU per day Vitamin D3, 2500 mcg Vitamin B12, 200 mg chelated magnesium and 120 mg magnesium L-threonate and occasionally 2.5-5 mg of Melatonin on the rare occasion I get insomnia. So far, everything chemical-wise and nutrition-wise in my body is all normal and my heart, lungs, kidneys and liver are healthier than they have any right to be for my age and weight.
