Fluoxetine ssri

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine ssri

Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it. Since then this has subsided and even though I am still taking it, it is not really having an effect and I am almost back to how I was before I began taking it.
Avatar f tn Anyone know where i can buy Fluoxetine (Prozac) not on prescription? It would be great if someone knew, thanks!

Avatar f tn , and she took me off Zoloft immediately and put me on Fluoxetine 20 mg. X 1 week and then bumped me to 40 mg. I experiended severe nausea and no appetite. 6 weeks later, I still have nausea from the Fluoxetine. Panic attacks are a little better but I am beginning to think I should have stayed on Zoloft because I can't recall feeling this bad. I am now seeing a psychiatrist and they have taken me down to 30 mg. of Fluoxetine in hopes of helping my nausea.
Avatar m tn My psychiatrist made me take Fluoxetine to treat depression like 3 years ago. I began to have trouble getting an erection ever since. I stopped taking it about 2.5 years ago but the problem persisted. This has caused me severe distress... I lost the woman I loved because of this problem. Sometimes I can have an erection and sometimes I just can't, or it's very weak. I've been taking quetiapine and lamotrigine to treat bipolar disorder for about 1.5 years.
Avatar n tn I can tell you that I have many patients that safely take metoprolol and prozac (as well as other SSRI medications). I have not seen clinical interaction between these drugs. It is probably best to call your doctor to ask them if it is ok.
Avatar f tn These include heart palpitations, social events and entering new relationships. Have just been prescribed 20mg Fluoxetine by my doctor and have been on this for just over 2 weeks. If anything my anxiety has increased slightly and I've lost my appetite. Could anyone tell me if this is pretty normal for the first couple of weeks??
Avatar m tn I had my first episode when I was 22 , and the second 4 years later, after a similar occasion. I then started fluoxetine 20 mg, which worked miraculously, with no side effects whatsoever. However, after quitting, I always seemed to get depression back, so I went back on it.I also tried therapy, with no results. After a few years my doctor switched me to Sertraline, and for the first time , I began to get tremor, an annoying peri-oral sensation with some mild jaw tremor and severe bruxism.

Avatar m tn Hello About 3 years ago I had mild/severe anxiety about going to university and actually ended up not going. I sought help from the doctor and he prescribed Fluoxetine 20mg to be taken once a day. This drug started off bad with no appetite, more anxiety and general nervousness. However - there was light at the end of the tunnel. After feeling the full effect I passed my driving test, got into a new uni for a new course and completed first year of that course.
Avatar m tn Although most people have lost weight while taking Adderall I have gained about 15 pounds which, of course, doesn't help the depression. Does anyone have the same experience while taking an SSRI and Adderall XR together.
603015 tn?1329866573 Can anyone tell me if fluoxetine is safe to use if you are bipolar even if its only a very small dose? I am Bipolar and there is a big question mark wether my daughter is Bipolar too, she is only 8 and has just been given the above to help her with her anxiety/depression as this is her current biggest issue but I am worried about her having anything let alone something that is a no no for bipolar as this is how I ended up being diagnosed after I took citropram.
Avatar n tn Zoloft (Sertraline) and Prozac (Fluoxetine) are both antidepressants in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). Since both drugs belong to the same class, their effects are fairly similar. However, since their chemical composition is different, one may work better than the other depending upon the individual patient. I have taken them both and have found both of them to be very good antidepressants.
Avatar f tn Inositol is a vitamin and the way it helps is thought to be by affecting certain neurotransmitters in the brain. Your fluoxetine is an SSRI so it is affecting Serotonin. The last thing I would want to see is you going through serotonin syndrome, i.e., too much serotonin. So before you start this I think you should just check it out with your doctor first. It could be that an increase in your fluoxetine may help with the skin picking.
429949 tn?1224695179 Has anyone had any problems with the SSRI Paxil. Any visual problems or side effects after starting this medicine?
Avatar f tn Of all the SSRI antidepressants, Prozac (fluoxetine) is the easiest to get off of post-tx. Take it.
Avatar n tn Some of the drugs, which need to be avoided with amitriptyline, are cisapride, MAO inhibitors, antihistamines, cimetidine, ipratropium, antiarrythmics, and drugs for cold, ulcers or irritable bowel syndrome. Mention these anti depressants, phenobarbitione, sedatives, tranquilisers and SSRI class including citalopram, fluoxetine, sertraline as these are known to interact with amitriptyline.
Avatar m tn I have anxiety disorder and take FLuoxetine (paxil) for my condition. Though SSRI class of medication is supposed to delay ejaculation, I still suffer from premature ejaculation. I have struggled with PE my entire adult life. I have read lots of books that provide techniques for improving ejaculation control. I have had little/no success. I find that I ejaculate much more quickly when I am "on top" of my partner rather than lying on my back.
Avatar n tn The best way to stop any SSRI is to take fluoxetine for two weeks, and then just stop the fluoxetine. The medication (also called prozac) has a super-long half-life, and tapers itself without causing withdrawal. The technique is fairly common and works very well; it is usually done to treat withdrawal from paroxetine or Paxil, which has a very short half-life.
Avatar f tn after going to same psychiatrist for more 10 years, this jan he said i have bpd, on 11 feb he put on armodafinil ,due to which on 18th of march resigned from a new job which i rather liked, now the pdoc says i have paranoid delusional disorder as well. and he has put me on 1 tab trihexyphenidyl & trifluoperazine combo along with 1/2 olanzipine and fluoxetine combo. it makes want to eat all the time, already i am fat with no job.
Avatar f tn not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..
Avatar n tn Another way to avoid withdrawal is to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for a few weeks after stopping Lexapro (or any other SSRI), then simply stopping the fluoxetine. The very long half-life of fluoxetine causes it to leave the body over a period of months, tapering so slowly that the person doesn't have any withdrawal. My recommendation at this point would be to go back on a low dose of Lexapro--maybe half of what you used to take.
Avatar n tn One of the causes of this is the discontinuation of an SSRI. And can you guess which SSRI I've taken on and off for over six years? Prozac, or Fluoxetine. You know, my symptoms may be a result of something larger (aka MS), but I have a feeling this may be what all of it's stemming from. A few years ago, I went off of it for about six months or so until I finally realized I needed to be back on it again. I did this same thing last year.
Avatar f tn Namaste, Escitalopram increases the amount of neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain by blocking the resorption of serotonin from the synapse, having little effect of other receptors, which is why it is called a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Escitalopram is directly derived from antidepressant citalopram (Celexa), by removing the therapeutically inactive R-citalopram component.
