Flomax and prostatitis

Common Questions and Answers about Flomax and prostatitis

flomax

Avatar m tn Prostatitis and BPH are similar. How and when were you diagnosed with each? I'm not here to convince you to take Flomax - that's a decision only you can make. I just want to make sure you have all the information. Depending on the dose, either .4 mg or .8 mg, only 8.4% and 18/1%, respectively, of men experienced any ejaculation issues. Again, depending on the dose, 14.9% and 17.1% experienced dizziness, respectively. http://products.sanofi.us/flomax/flomax.
Avatar m tn The urge frequency was sometimes unbearable!! Anyhow started on Flomax, and in just one day noticed the frequency (6-8x day to 4x) and urgency diminished. If no BPH...how is the Flomax working??? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms. Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate. Best.
Avatar m tn When you stop the FloMax your symptoms of weak urine flow and penis, scrotum and rectal pain will return. You might want to discuss the permanent use of FloMax with your doctor or a urologist. Trust me it is better to be on FloMax than to have the TURP to deal with the prostate.
Avatar m tn A month later I went to an urgent care prior to Christmas for the same issue and the doc said prostatitis after doing a DRE. Said it was firm but culture was clean. Wanted to give me antibiotics but I just said to get the Flomax since it worked before. Didn't get it filled but the issue resolved on its own. Right before following up with pcp I ejaculated and go the urgency frequency feeling afterwards. PCP did a DRE and didn't think it was prostatitis but maybe IC.
Avatar m tn So far I have taken Cipro (two rounds; 10 days and 21 days), Bactrim (14 days), and Flomax throughout all without much benefit. I am supposed to have a semen culture done in a week to see exactly what the bacteria is. My question is if anyone has had a bad case of prostatitis and urithritis and what the outcome was? Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn I have taken Flomax for a week, and am very weary of the side effects. It effects my vision - I can feel it in my eyes. It dulls my brain, I can feel it in my head. It caused the ringing in my ears to get worse. I've had minor chest pain for a few days. All of these are on the list of side effects.
Avatar n tn The urologist told me that the flomax causes retrograde ejaculation, but this was in the morning after my flomax has usually worn off (this was at a time of day when I have masturbated and ejaculated before, but no more than a little dribble oozed out. Usually when the flomax is in effect, absolutely nothing comes out).
Avatar n tn I had been diagnosed with Prostatitis some time ago and antibiotics and diet change has not helped it to go away, is it possible that I am allergic to my own semen? Would that have similar symptoms to prostatitis? if so is there any way to cure it?
Avatar m tn I have a very good friend who has an enlarged prostate and he takes a medication called "Flomax". This seems to help him a lot. Maybe mention it to your doctor as a possibility for you----- or change doctors! It's your life we are talking about here and the quality of your life. There is no reason for needless suffering in my opinion.
1825362 tn?1317883153 I request info about triple therapy and prostatitis as I also suffer from prostatitis.... also depression and anziety which are being controlled daily with flomax and ativan respectively. I am disabled with severe back pain....... recently weaned myself off of methadone 20mg daily for pain. I still take 25mg to 30 mg oxycodone for pain control. 1.5 mg daily for anziety. Most days I am not out of the house.... others I do not get out of bed. I have tried antidepressants such as lexipro...
Avatar n tn I visited my family doctor who did a simple test for blood in the urine, which was positive. He diagnosed prostatitis and prescribed 2 weeks of cipro. I tried it for two days but experienced anxiety and insomnia, although I must say by the second day the urinary symptoms were completely gone. But the insomnia was miserable so I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do for the side effects, so he switched me to 3 wks of doxycycline, which I started taking immediately.
Avatar n tn I was then sent to urologist who said postatitis, gave me flomax and said to alter diet to avoid acidic drinks/foods. After 6 weeks of flomax and eating a bland diet there was still no improvement. Went to another urologist who said prostatitis, gave me flomax and new antibiotics and prescribed 600mg ibuprofen 3 x day.
Avatar f tn I recently experienced retrograde ejaculation followed by discomfort. I started flomax 2 weeks ago for prostatitis and started taking detrol la 2 days ago. Thank goodness I found this website, as I don't feel so embarrased now, but I am still very concerned.
Avatar m tn My symptoms are pain in the anus from the prostate, pain in the testicles ( i previously had epidymitis) pain in the lower back, groin and thighs. I have been to the GUM clinic and had all tests done and they are all clear. The pain is coming from inflamed nerve endings which will have to heal on their own through time. The only help i find is through a pain killer called LYRICA (pregabalin) which works on nerve ending pain.
Avatar m tn As you already mentioned that you had recurrent prostatitis, there could be a chance of orchitis causing pain in the testicles and the cord. Also epididymitis may sometimes mimic this pain. Pain at the base of the penis could be due to balanitis. I would suggest that you get a urine analysis with culture done. Also a physical examination with a urologist would be prefferable. What is the indication for using alpha blockers? They can be used for BPH.
Avatar n tn Next he prescribed antibotics for prostatitis and that didnt help. Then he prescribed flomax, which I am taking right now but it is not helping.
Avatar m tn Six months later I went to a GP and he diagnosed me with prostatitis. He prescribed Cipro and Flomax. This helped for a while, but eventually it stopped. Next I went to a urologist. He took a history and did a dre. He said my prostate felt inflamed and I did indeed have prostatitis. The pain was quite severe at this point and I was having problems urinating. He prescribed doxycycline and flomax. This seemed to work for a little while. I returned three months later and told him of my status.
16335396 tn?1461333696 He now has chronic Prostatitis, he takes flomax and doxycyline for this when he has flare ups. Unfortunately at times it causes ED, which causes him to have to take more medication.
Avatar m tn I also went on the standard prostatitis regimen of leviquin, flomax and an NSAID. I tested negative for the other STDs. I went for an HIV test 25 days after exposure (labcorp ICMA antibody test and it was negative). I am now concerned that I have developed a fever and some swollen lymph nodes in the neck (probably from me touching them). Do I have a valid concern? I will test again at 3 months, but is there any value in testing at 5 or 6 weeks? Thanks for your input and help.
Avatar m tn I have some similar symptoms. Could be prostatitis. I'm on Flomax and Cipro for it. My uroligst thinks this is what I have but not sure. http://www.webmd.
Avatar n tn Visit with URO was routine, said that he had no doubt that I had prostatitis and that the penis tip burning was a sure sign, he did exam said inflamed. Put me on flomax, no acidic foods or drinks for 30 days. I followed 30 days with little improvement. Next visit did not go well with this doctor, I did not feel confident in him. I found new URO,he did exam said prostate was inflamed. Cipro 500mg 2xd, Ibuprofen 800mg 3xd and Uroxatrol 10mg 1xd for 30d.
Avatar n tn m sitting down, and usually if I get up and walk around I feel better. I went to the doctor about a week ago and had some blood work done. All of the results for STDs, and a UTI came back negative. I'm currently taking Cipro but it doesn't seem to help. My physician said that it might be "nospecific urethritis" and would prescribe Doxycycline. From what I have read about post void drip, there doesn't seem to be any resolution. Has anybody had success with this problem?
Avatar n tn Both revealed signs of BPH (39mmX39mmX56mm) and FNAC revealed signs of chronic prostatitis. DRE (which, incidentally and wrongly was done after FNAC) revealed a slight firmness (no nodule) on the right side. I took a long course of ofloxacin which dropped the PSA to 12.75 after 3 months. I continued the ofloxacin hoping for further improvement, but after 6 more weeks the PSA remained the same. I am an Asian, no family history of PCa, and have no symptoms yet.
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar n tn The pain from chronic prostatitis can be relieved by NSAIDS (ibuprofen, naproxen) or alpha-blockers (flomax, terazosin). Have your PSA followed regularly and have your urologist follow PSA velocity, PSA density, and free PSA.
