1401877 tn?1288107639 Hi! I know you left the question long time ago but I'm still answering. I'm diagnosed with POTS and have donated blood a few times. After donating I've been quite "POTSy" too, been tired and a bit dizzy. However, I found a great help from eating something salty and drinking water A LOT right after donating!
559187 tn?1330782856 Hi, Julie. Donating blood is no prob for MSers. Here's a thread that gives definitive info: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Hi Bud, and welcome! Sorry to hear that you've had a relapse. From what you've said, it sounds like you're pretty confident donating blood has had at least somewhat of an impact on your symptoms, and I would probably agree. However, there could have been other factors as well, such as the running/exercise. Maybe next time you should try 2 weeks of resting after donating blood, before running.
53186 tn?1225749549 Unfortunately one will never be able to donate blood with positive HCV antibodies, even though one has no more virus in the blood. The blood banks screen and find antibodies. The would have to send the blood for 2 PCR's 6 months apart to be able to determine that one really is HCV free. As a PCR is very expensive, that would not make sense. Once cured, one is allowed to donate organs though.
900662 tn?1469390305 John, Before my first relapse of symptoms and getting sick, I worked at a hospital and was donating blood. One time, I could not donate because I was slightly anemic. The other times though, oh boy, during and after giving blood I felt like I was in la-la land, extremely dizzy, blurred vision etc. I stopped giving blood because of this. Now, I know this was almost like an exacerbation of symptoms.
1523804 tn?1316560909 HCV is only transmitted via blood to blood contact, so its presence, or a marker for its presence (antibodies), demonstrates foreign blood exposure. At one time HCV was unknown and so was HIV and many other blood borne diseases. I think the CDC has finally recognized that just because someone tests negative for all known diseases, that doesn't mean they're not carrying a hitchhiker that's yet to be discovered.
Avatar m tn do we know how long if it takes in order for the antibodies to appear in the blood stream just after initial infection, maybe people are donating and not knowing thie virus is still in the blood.
197575 tn?1215532624 How long after tt and RAI do you have to wait to donate blood - or can I do it anymore???
Avatar n tn And there was some talk about a phone call and twenty four hours thing. She can check her cholesteral and other blood things via phone call. Would they use that to notify her? And would they be as prompt? I don't know? What do you think? And she also wants to know if I recent flu or cold would mess with the test scanning? I told her she needn't worry about her status, I think she was conclusive a long time ago but she keeps saying you never know.
Avatar f tn When I worked at a blood bank we had plenty of women donating blood shortly after birth and while nursing.
Avatar m tn Can i donnate blood if i have arrhytmia and blood circulatory issues (valves behind kness not working properly causing feet burns and legs fathigue)
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar n tn He takes 5 mg blood pressure med and he takes Flomax daily. When he first started taking Flomax; which he needs to be able to urinate or as he says to keep his plumbing working, anyway, he would have dizzy spells. His doctor said this was normal, a side effect of Flomax. But now lately he has been passing out; I think that is unusual for any medication and I'm worried there may be something else going on.
Avatar m tn So, maybe you can just ask your doctor where and under what circumstances you would be donating blood, and what your options are in this respect. Unless you have another condition, being gay would have no bearing on this. I also hope you are not embarrassed to say you are gay, because you shouldn't be. Either way, if this is your only solution then I would think your doctor would have a way for you to donate annonymously.
Avatar m tn I did not associate it with flomax until recently. Is it harmful if I stop taking the flomax and is this the cause of my retro? This discussion is related to Retrograde Ejaculation from Flomax......permanent or not?.
Avatar n tn Well it was unprotected oral and I'm a college student and he is a college student and I know the prevalence of STDs in my age group. It was two weeks ago I don't have any symptoms but I guess I'm just freaked out cause I know better! I'm A negative and try to donate whenever possible. So you think I should still donate?

1580703 tn?1651904887 I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar m tn I have donated many times while on Klonopin and various antidepressants. They will ask you what medications you are on and if there is anything that would affect you or the blood you're donating, they will not allow you to donate. Take care.
Avatar f tn I’ve been donating blood on a semi-regular basis for at least a decade, and recently switched to donating platelets. I have made 5 platelet donations, and twice have suddenly gotten crazy dizzy and throwing up, one to two days AFTER my donation. Is this simply coincidence or are they related?? (I don’t normally get sick like this, so this is new for me.
