Avatar f tn You can always have someone that you trust with either universal or same blood type as you, do a directed donation. I have to have a c-section and my husband and I are the same blood type so he did a directed donation on my behalf. So if I need blood I get his. You have to ask the blood lab at the hospital for their suppliers phone number and inquire about it. They need a certain amount of time to test the blood an store it so it usually has to be at least a week ahead if time.
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar n tn He takes 5 mg blood pressure med and he takes Flomax daily. When he first started taking Flomax; which he needs to be able to urinate or as he says to keep his plumbing working, anyway, he would have dizzy spells. His doctor said this was normal, a side effect of Flomax. But now lately he has been passing out; I think that is unusual for any medication and I'm worried there may be something else going on.
Avatar m tn I did not associate it with flomax until recently. Is it harmful if I stop taking the flomax and is this the cause of my retro? This discussion is related to Retrograde Ejaculation from Flomax......permanent or not?.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?
Avatar m tn actually, I'm joking. Really when I get blood I'm pretty grateful that someone went out of their way to take the time to donate something I just can't make well on my own and I'm kind of in wonder that someone would care enough about someone they've never met to do that. People really don't understand how important blood and organ donation is sometimes unless they've been in a position to need one or the other.
Avatar m tn Hi Bud, and welcome! Sorry to hear that you've had a relapse. From what you've said, it sounds like you're pretty confident donating blood has had at least somewhat of an impact on your symptoms, and I would probably agree. However, there could have been other factors as well, such as the running/exercise. Maybe next time you should try 2 weeks of resting after donating blood, before running.
Avatar n tn Well it was unprotected oral and I'm a college student and he is a college student and I know the prevalence of STDs in my age group. It was two weeks ago I don't have any symptoms but I guess I'm just freaked out cause I know better! I'm A negative and try to donate whenever possible. So you think I should still donate?
Avatar f tn its wrong to purposely use blood donation for getting your status, what if you were truly positive and were neg at the time of donation., would it make you feel good to infect someone.
Avatar n tn Im getting married by the end of this year and someone advised me to stop donating blood as it can lead to irregular periods and problems in conceiving (this lady had similar problems and was advised by her gyn to stop blood donation). Is ths something which happens to a lot of women?
Avatar n tn I wouldn't bother bringing it up. I know their questions have a few about have you ever had sex with someone who has hiv and such but you've tested negative a few times now and they use the best blood testing for hiv out there so I wouldn't worry about it.
Avatar m tn The blood transfusion service tests donors for anemia before each blood donation. This test will exclude a thalassaemia carrier with mild anaemia. If you have anemia, then you cannot donate blood. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Since the discovery of occult hbv, that is HBsAg -ve but detectable hbvdna, blood donation services are more cautious if a donor is HBcAb positive, indicating a past hbv infection and therefore may potentially have occult hbv. The more advanced donation services will now screen donors using a nucleic acid test. Since we know many people have been exposed and recovered from HBV, a blanket rejection of everyone with positive HBcAb will significantly reduce the donor pool.
Avatar m tn t seem to be a great drug since it lowers blood pressure too much, I almost fainted on losartan and flomax. Is it true it permenently exhausts you and causes muscle weakness?
Avatar f tn Answer the questionnaire at the blood bank truthfully to ascertain whether you can give blood or not. There is perhaps a sample questionnaire from your local blood transfusion service on the web.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else ever linked their POTS to blood loss or a donation? Prior to the donation I walked 4 miles every morning, was active, happy and healthy. This has been quite a blow...

Avatar f tn Yes, I will get retest again for sure coz I want to make sure it is not a false indication and I want to go back to donate blood. However, the donation center asked me to wait 6 months to get retest it.
Avatar f tn ve never had one before along with the blood donation is raising my doubt on my tests. I got two more tests at 90 and 97 days (negative) and I am meeting soon with a psychiatrist as I'm fully aware I need help with my anxiety. I hope you can answer this one last thing and you have my apologies for the anxiety-filled questions.
Avatar f tn I think it has to do with your blood pressure. The higher blood pressure and faster heart rate you have the faster the blood comes out.
Avatar f tn I use to be a regular blood donor, and now I am not sure if I can give blood. On one of the questions it asks if you have a dura mater transplant before. Would the dura graft be considered a transplant?
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
