Common Questions and Answers about Estrogen in puberty

Avatar m tn I've been wondering if whether or not as a younger child in early puberty I had a little bit of a hormonal imbalance. I seem to have wider hips than most males and bonafide breast nub development. I was wondering if this is a concern for me presently because I was thinking of getting cosmetic gynecomastia-correcting surgery at some point, but I don't want any reason for my body to grow them back. I have pictures that I will gladly PM. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I think it is actually normal as boys start going through puberty. It can happen in both breasts or just one. It is due to hormones and the ratio of testosterone to estrogen production. something like 70% of boys have this. However, it is always best to run these things by the doctor. If it is hot and red, thats an infection. That would definately require a doctor's visit. our peditrician will take phone calls.
1377918 tn?1278963049 I have been told by a pediatric endocrinologist that if you can count the hairs, it is not precocious puberty. In precocious puberty you will also see rapid vertical growth as seen in physiologic puberty. Hope this helps, but I would definitely get her looked at by her pediatrician if you are concerned.
Avatar n tn They could get levels while waiting to include LH, FSH, estradiol, TSH, free T4, these are the puberty hormones and thyroid hormones that are helpful in looking at other causes. A pelvic ultrasound from the abdomen will look at her ovary to see if there is a cyst causing the estrogen effect. Yes, since she had breasts at age 6 she needs an evaluation. In regards to the almost 9 year old I also evaluate those girls to be sure that it is just a normal tempo of puberty.
Avatar n tn Hi, Normally bone growth is supposed to be over with the epiphyseal closure, which takes place some time towards the end of puberty, typically during 18 to 20 years of age. Estrogen is the hormone responsible foe epiphyseal closure for both men and women. It seems, for some men who suffer from either aromatise deficiency or estrogen resistance, the bones do not close and continue to grow during adulthood, otherwise, it is not normally expected.
Avatar m tn During puberty, levels of these hormones may fluctuate and rise at different levels, resulting in a temporary state in which estrogen concentration is relatively high. Studies regarding the prevalence of gynecomastia in normal adolescents have yielded widely varying results. But if you still have worries the get to you family doctor.
Avatar f tn for girls before age 11 to have a period and full pubic hair and breasts. I know about the estrogen in foods and products as a theory but still...
Avatar n tn Sounds like you are lacking fat as well as minerals and nutrients in your diet. Estrogen depends alot on your fat%; which I am assuming yours is too low. (Estrogen= breast development, periods, etc.) In a sense, I don't believe in charts because everyone will not be represented on the charts, but I would consult your physician about this.
180483 tn?1229529168 Honestly risks besides the shot and the rare but important need to give it right, if we suppress puberty for too long we will miss out on all the important benefits of estrogen like bone density, so I do not treat beyond age 11 unless absolutely necessary, so if your daughter started and with a bone age of 10-12 she more than likely will be on treatment for about 2-3 years.
367100 tn?1330914725 Determine if a child is going through early puberty (also called precocious puberty). Puberty is early when it starts in girls younger than age 9 and in boys younger than age 10. Determine why sexual features or organs are not developing when they should (delayed puberty). Help diagnose certain pituitary gland disorders, such as a tumor.
Avatar m tn My son will be 15 years old next week. His pediatrician feels he should be further along in puberty (he's stage 2). He is 5'7 and weighs 180lbs. After seeing an endocrinologist who ran all types of blood work which came back normal with the exception of his estrogen level a bit higher then normal and had an X-ray of his hand which showed bones of a 13 half to 14 half yr old (I was told was good ) want to give my son arimidex. My question is......is this safe for teen boys.
Avatar f tn I have never been pregnant, not have i ever breastfeed, but i am kinda weirded out because my breasts produce a yellowish white liquid that seems like glue or liquid at times and my breasts hurt a lot sometimes. what is going on?
Avatar f tn Should I get my hormones tested or do I not have to worry? Is it too late in puberty for these changes to fix themselves? My penis also seems as if it's not normal size and I experience what I believe to be hot flashes pretty regularly. I've shown most stages of puberty, but these problems are still there. Can someone help determine the problem?
Avatar f tn Breast cancer in males is uncommon, especially in the young, but it can occur. A lump under the nipple of a young boy is most likely gynecomastia, which is common in boys around the age of puberty and is usually temporary.
Avatar n tn This is usually called premature thelarche, all babies go through what we call minipuberty near birth and in girls there is a surge of some hormones from the brain that then go away and some can develop a little response that shows as breast buds, these usually resolve due to lack of ongoing pubertal levels of hormones and by age 3 this should be gone, however if this is enlarged compared to prior exam then workup may be needed, firstly to measure the brain hormones that stimulate the ovaries to
Avatar m tn It is due to the testosterone being converted into estrogen to give you growth spurt and would vanish in course of your pubertal development. Read from the following link more about pubertal development and especially read under ' Hormonal changes in boys ' where specific mention of this effect is mentioned: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puberty Neverthless, do mention this to your doctor during your next physical, so that he could reassure you.
Avatar m tn It is thought that the phytoestrogens in soy can cause feminization of boys and early puberty onset in girls. It may be a little more expensive than soy, but sometimes it can be covered by your insurance if your pediatrician writes a prescription for it.
Avatar m tn During the growth spurt in boys, most of the testosterone produced by the body is converted to estrogen which triggers the high rate of metabolism and the resultant body growth. In other words, the growth process during puberty in boys and girls is mainly mediated by estrogen.
Avatar n tn My son is almost completed with puberty. Yes, early puberty happened with him. He started puberty early and they did an initial bone scan, then another in Sept.
Avatar m tn Hi, At your age many boys do get issues with breast enlargement, which normally get settled by itself when one comes out of puberty. It is mostly due to the unbalance of estrogen to testosterone ratio that happens during the early stages of puberty. Reducing your weight is the key factor that can control this problem. Also stay away from supplements and try to get all required nutrients directly from food.
Avatar f tn 3, usually with early central puberty the lh is higher than that in comparison to the fsh, with a normal mri that is reassuring, ovaries are large and more than likely she will need treatment, but with her being so young I would consider another opinion, If you go to Hartford, Yale has an amazing endocrine department, Scott Rivkees and his colleagues will take good care of you there, but realistically travelling from India to Connecticut needs to be considered with your husband, if you are goin
Avatar n tn We just had to watch it until she reached puberty, which corrected the problem once her hormones kicked in.
