566073 tn?1219434819 At your age, you are just replacing what your body would naturally give you if you had not had your surgery. You can ask your doctor about testing the tumor for estrogen and progesterone receptors. Theorectically, if your tumor has estrogen receptors, if there are any other tumor cells left, they might be stimulated to grow. But mucinous tumors in general are not stimulated by estrogen. A stage Ia cancer should be cured by a radical hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn In pre-menopausal women, the ovaries create most of the estrogen, and after primary treatment, taking Tamoxifen will be sufficient to block estrogen from cancer cells. If needed, for young women with estrogen-sensitive breast cancer, ovaries can be temporarily shut down with ovarian suppression injections. For high-risk women, ovaries can be surgically removed (oophorectomy).
Avatar f tn To mom, it felt like he plans on keeping her on the estrogen for the rest of her life. She is feeling very torn between the two doctors who both want her to do different things. How do you stay a good and compliant patient to both doctors with opposing opinions? Are there really benefits to continuing estrogen therapy after a natural menopausal age? Is it a trend to continue the therapy indefinitely?
Avatar m tn I take Siberian Eleuthero (Ginseng) and Magnesium glycinate to help me make estrogen and build my bones. I have osteopenia also. For her stomach problems, I think she should be taking acidophilus and enzymes. I stopped taking PPIs and started taking Gluten Cutter from Walmart as it contains over 10 different enzymes. (I recently had surgery on my esophagus because of GERD) but find that these enzymes help me so much more than anti acids. I hope this information is helpful.
Avatar f tn Hi- My doctor told me that the latest school of thought is women need estrogen replacement only. He said this actually reduces breast cancer risks and tends to make heart healthier. the estrogen-progesterone combo is now thought to increase breast cancer risks and be unhealthy for the female heart. I had my tubes and ovaries out last Thursday, and personally I plan on not taking any hormones unless I develop symptoms i can not deal with.
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis is definitely not a cancer. The bones become weak and brittle and subject to fractures. A common cause is use of oral steroids such as prednisone in excess of three months. The bright spot is there are several treatment options to include parathyroid hormone and zoldronic acid. I don't have enough knowledge to suggest a specific treatment protocol, however this is definitely something you should discuss with your primary care physician.

Avatar n tn Letrozole is an estrogen blocker per se, prevents the conversion of the body's male hormones to estrogen and therefore slows maturation of the bones,It is used in breast cancer and tends to lower the body's estrogen and may raise testosterone levels, it is sometimes used with growth hormone. however it can also affect the liver and use of it is controversial in regards to its true benefit.
14855819 tn?1444342513 t too stupid to rule out osteoporosis. If your birth control contains estrogen, it should be good for your bones not bad for them, so talk to your doctor about what you are seeing that seems like a hump.
Avatar n tn It seems, for some men who suffer from either aromatise deficiency or estrogen resistance, the bones do not close and continue to grow during adulthood, otherwise, it is not normally expected.
Avatar f tn Do you think it is safe to continue using the estrogen patch? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. Your service is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I did not have any blood test for this its not necessary if your ovaries are gone you have no estrogen,.Calcium is good, for bones, I had restless legs and leg cramps right after my hyster but they stopped when i started bioidenticals...a multivitamin is a good idea too.
Avatar n tn My case is very similar to yours,my bone density is not very good either.I've been taking arimidex for almost a year now and so far, I've been tolerating it pretty well . For my bones I take Calcium+vitamin D, and once weekly Novo Alendronate which is the equivalent of what you are taking now.
Avatar f tn Arimidex stops this conversion thus inhibiting the estrogen circulating in the body.My Oncologist told me that estrogen can be also found in muscles, bones and skin.Your oncologist is right that even if you remove the ovaries, your body still produces estrogen.Take care..
Avatar n tn It is not unheard of for athletes that do not get their period to have osteoporosis or osteopenia and stress fractures because their bones are not getting the estrogen they need for good bone strength and development. I highly recommend that you see your gynecologist to make sure the only reason that you are not getting your period is that you are underweight and if there is no other reason then that to get on some sort of estrogen replacement or birth control pills.
Avatar f tn I get high blood pressure on pills with estrogen so I started the mini pill. It has no estrogen and I didn't have any side effects. I was off it for about a month when we got pregnant.
Avatar m tn After seeing an endocrinologist who ran all types of blood work which came back normal with the exception of his estrogen level a bit higher then normal and had an X-ray of his hand which showed bones of a 13 half to 14 half yr old (I was told was good ) want to give my son arimidex. My question is......is this safe for teen boys. I read its not FDA approved for children.
Avatar n tn I have severe osteoporosis as a result. I am 22 years old. I was put on birth control for the estrogen to help replenish my bones, and return my period. (I do not menstruate without the pill) I have doubts of my being able to actually carry a child in the future, but was considering a surrogate mother. Is there anyway to tell if I'm even producing eggs anymore? Is a surrogate, with my egg and husband's sperm possible?
Avatar f tn in my opinion you need to get your hornones tested its likely that you need estrogen,,this will help some with the dryness and other symtoms that are comming in the next few years estogen is good for the bones and take away hot flashes..which are horrid.. the other possibitlty if your hormones come back fine is to ask your doc to test you for hypo thyrodism...this pretty much presnents in middle age women 1 in 10 hav it symptoms ar bascially drying out I mean skin, hair, vagina...
216278 tn?1308861082 • Black Cohosh Root Used to promote healthy menstruation and to treat symptoms of PMS, menstrual cramps, dysmenorrhea, mood swings and menopause. Its ability to mimic estrogen makes it a valuable female supplement. Short-term, daily use may help stimulate menstrual flow in women suffering from dysmenorrhea. In menstruating women, take during the follicular phase (first half) of your cycle. Do not take this supplement if pregnant or breastfeeding.
Avatar f tn Tamoxifen works by blocking the effects of estrogen on the growth of malignant cells only in breast tissue .However, tamoxifen does not stop completely the production of estrogen found in bones, muscles etc... like Arimidex or other Aromatase inhibitors can. I guess that your oncologist is the one who knows better what is the appropriate medication for your particular case...
Avatar n tn I am 46 years old, and had normal levels of hormones prior to diagnosis. Following the surgery, my doctor put me on estrogen patches (HRT). It is his belief that the benefits of estrogen outweigh the risks at my age. My pathology report showed that my ovarian cancer was estrogen receptive/reactive. So why is HRT okay? My local gyno-oncologist and my gyno-oncologist at the Fred Hutchinson Center in Seattle both indicated it was okay.
Avatar f tn My 80 year old nieghbor only has osteopenia. She has taken estrogen replacement for years though but is over weight. But my friend who is thin and older than me (60's) has osteopenia not osteoporosis. So I didn't know what to do. I don't want to get fat to gain bone. But I can walk more and stop sitting so much. But I don't know if that will replace the bone I lost?
Avatar m tn and if you doctor is better than mine, see if he/she will test your estrogen levels... At 44, you are like me, we are preparing for that oh so wonderful "change of life...:... If anything, please just keep me posted....
Avatar f tn I need help asking a doctor to really take a look at my painful bones in my lower legs. They are very painful on light touching -- they feel as if I had banged my shin on something, although I did not and the tenderness has continued for two years. I can barely tolerate anyone handling the tops of my feet (pedicurist, husband). Sometimes my lower legs just ache. My left ankle often swells to a huge size with pitting edema.
492898 tn?1222243598 Tamifxifen blocks the estrogen receptor in the breast, whereas aromatase inhibitors block an enzyme called aromatase and keep if from converting androgen into estrogen. (Postmenopausal women get most of their estrogen from that conversion process, while premenopausal women get most of their estrogen from their ovaries.) I can't speak as to anyone's experience with Aromasin (I'm sure others with post about that!), but, of course, side effects very from indivdual to individual.
Avatar f tn I wouldn't take this product personally, as I wouldn't trust any direct marketed supplement. But let's assume I would trust this product. If you're on estrogen, this will throw you off completely, as the substances used, such as arginine, deer antler, and tribulus are all used to increase testosterone. The GABA in it doesn't pass the blood-brain barrier. It mixes substances that should be taken with meals with amino acids that should be taken apart from meals.
