Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test virology

elisa-test

Avatar m tn after doing some research and speaking with the University of Washington Virology Research Clinic, it appears that the Elisa test has roughly 50% false positive in this very low positive level. What I have found suggests that going with the Western Blot IGg test may prove to be more accurate. Do you have thoughts or experience with this test? The Virology Research Clinic suggest at 4 months post encounter as you did.
Avatar m tn I have a question regarding testing: I got my results back today from LabCorp. It was the Trinity Captia ELISA IGG test for both 1 & 2. Both results were negative at 11.2 weeks post exposure. I also had this test done at 8.5 weeks, negative for both. What is everyone's view of this test and it's accuracy and it's likelihood to change at 16 weeks? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Or call the University of Washington dept of Virology (the place that conducts the Western Blot test) and ask a nurse or doctor there what issues they have heard about with the HerpeSelect ELISA. They won't know of any either.
Avatar n tn If you test too early after infection, the screening ELISA test that you had done could pick up early infection where the western blot did not. I would advise that before taking the western blot, you wait at least 4 months for an accurate test. If you are negative by western blot for both, and you have waited 4 months and your first ELISA value was between 1.1 and 3.5, then I would consider the western blot the accurate result here.
Avatar m tn In November someone I suspect was a sex worker performed oral sex on me when I was very drunk outside a night club. I became aware of what was going on,she had my penis in her mouth for what I suspect could have been for about 1-2 mins. I stopped it & saw what I suspect was a cold sore above her lip.
Avatar m tn A recent medical article stated that the Insti Rapid HIV test can detect the virus nearly 9 days earlier than the Western Blot laboratory test. Furthermore, the test performed rather well against other laboratory based HIV tests. This is due largely to Insti's ability to detect HIV gp41 antibodies, which are produced during early infection. With that said, how accurate is an Insti rapid test at 6.5 weeks after unprotected vaginal sex with a female of unknown status?
Avatar n tn I am a male, so obviously not an OB/GYN. Also, ELISA and Western Blot test for antibodies, which mean exposure, from my understanding and reading, not necessarily active infection. Which is what I am trying to understand in more detail. Since HSV2 isn't bloodborne, the only diagnosis is through clinical examination from what I am learning?
Avatar n tn 3 months test is 100% conclusive
Avatar m tn Their lab uses the “Herpe Select” Immunoblot test for HSV. It does both Igm/IgG testing if required. This test is NOT covered by Public Health Plan - Cost is 140$ Lab is based in Montreal. The turn around time is 1-2 weeks. The test by Immunoblot HSV1 is 92%-100% accurate. The test by Immunoblot HSV2 is 98%-100% accurate. Public Health (in Ontario at least) does IgG HSV ELISA/EIA testing.
Avatar m tn one quite high positive ELISA, one Immunoblot with a negative result per FOCUS standard but still not the common negative result, one negative Western blot and two indeterminate Western blot. More precisely (in addition, in parentheses, I put in weeks unless otherwise specified, the last three or four times I had sexual activities before taking the first three tests): August 16 2012: ELISA HSV-1 0.3 HSV-2 4.
Avatar n tn I recently tested positive for HSV2 through an stdexpress igg test via Labcorp (val=2.82). I do not show extreme symptoms like what you might find on google searches, nor do I show symptoms that look really anything like herpes. I have had for years a recurrent rash (usually pops up when seasons change esp. fall-winter) that doctors have 'diagnosed' as dermatitis (I've also thought about possibilities of eczema and psoriasis) that recurs generally in the same area on the tip.
Avatar n tn I read an article on line that states that HSV PCR using spinal fluid is a good way to detect HSV when you have suspicious symptoms but you get a neg on the IgG Elisa tests. It went on to say that antibodies do not stay in the blood for life so if you are asymptomatic and the other tests don't produce results to get the PCR done because the DNA for the virus stays in your body but not in the blood. I was diag using a swab method 17 years ago. I don't have regular symptoms for herpes.
Avatar m tn I had general std testing done on 9/4/12. My IGG test results were negative for HSV-1, but positive for HSV-2 (index value 2.48). I later determined that this score was in the "gray zone" and perhaps false negative (though less likely so, given that I apparently had no HSV-1 antibodies to confuse the issue). I then had WB testing done on 10/24/12. Result: "Indeterminate for HSV.
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar f tn my doctor is said to me to give pcr-rt (quantitative) test? what is pcr? I am very worried.
Avatar m tn i have got an elisa test done for hiv 3 years after exposure. my test confirmed that i was negative. do i need to get retested or can i be assured that i am hiv negative. and yeah thanks for answering my previous questions, it helped me a great deal. you all are doing a great job , thumbs up....
Avatar m tn There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.
Avatar f tn how accurate is a negative elisa test 3 weeks post risky exposure for a woman (unprotected sex) with a hiv positive man? my doctor says its 100% accurate, is this true....
Avatar m tn ve 30.50.60.70.80.86.92.115 elisa test. it necessary to obtain the test to be negative anymore, all the days of 6 months?
Avatar f tn My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !
Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
Avatar m tn hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.
