Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test in virology

elisa-test

Avatar m tn after doing some research and speaking with the University of Washington Virology Research Clinic, it appears that the Elisa test has roughly 50% false positive in this very low positive level. What I have found suggests that going with the Western Blot IGg test may prove to be more accurate. Do you have thoughts or experience with this test? The Virology Research Clinic suggest at 4 months post encounter as you did.
Avatar m tn I have a question regarding testing: I got my results back today from LabCorp. It was the Trinity Captia ELISA IGG test for both 1 & 2. Both results were negative at 11.2 weeks post exposure. I also had this test done at 8.5 weeks, negative for both. What is everyone's view of this test and it's accuracy and it's likelihood to change at 16 weeks? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Not all blood tests are reliable I'm afraid. Here's a chart of the recommended tests, from the American Sexual Health Association (ASHA). The only one to watch out for on this chart is the HerpeSelect ELISA. It's been shown to have issues in recent years. http://www.ashasexualhealth.org/uploads/pdfs/HerpesBloodTestGuide.
Avatar n tn m not sure which test I was given, but when I asked the nurse, she said it was the blood test that was the more accurate of the two. Anyway, when I went in to get a confirmation test done, via Western blot, I noticed my medical forms said my test showed the numeric value for the first blood test was between 1 and 3 or so. I waited about 2.5 weeks to hear back from my Western blot test, which just came in the other day. This test showed I was negative for both HSV-1 and HSV-2.
Avatar m tn In all reality, however, what are the odds that a person that test negative with a highly accurate (best test in the market) at 6.5 weeks will test positive at the 3 month mark? Experts in the field such as Dr. Hansfield and Dr. Hook state that any test at 6 weeks is nearly conclusive and one at 8 weeks is most certainly. They've also stated (as well as general MDs) that they've never seen a 6 week negative test turn positive if no unsafe act was performed in the time elapsed.
Avatar m tn Better yet, ask your doctor to order the Western Blot - 99% accurate and administered by the top research facility in the country, the Virology Research Center at the University of Washington. You could go ahead and get the test now. If you were infected 14 weeks ago, it's highly unlikely you would not have some kind of antibody activity by now, however, I do think it would save the extra copay to wait the full 16 weeks.
Avatar m tn Can anyone suggest a way to get a WB herpes test in Ontario Canada..The labs will draw blood. I need a reqisition for the UNiV of Wash to do test as well as test procedure to follow for the lab. Is it really this hard ? I guess . any help is.
Avatar f tn The HIV risk is zero and you have to work with your doc for any virology test for Hep. When thinking about HIV, you need to stop interchanging the word zero with your own idea that it is low risk, so you can move on from HIV fears.
Avatar n tn ) My physicians have essentially said that even though I test and retest positive, that I am in fact negative and that I should not take suppressive therapy or treat it in any way. Additionally they have indicated that I do not have disclose that I am positive to any potential partner. My primary care physician, stated - "if you didn't have this test result and I asked you if you had HSV2, you would say no, so the answer is no.
Avatar n tn 3 months test is 100% conclusive
Avatar m tn We are trying all we can do to find out a way to sort out these kinds of test results as we know that people want to move on and live lives that are full and rewarding, sexually, and these test results can get in the way of all of that. I can't say that the results of this study will be a 100% clarification, just perhaps one more piece of the puzzle to confirm or not confirm your infection. The fact that you have a negative inhibition assay is also very hopeful.
Avatar n tn What is the difference in the Oralswab rapid test and unigold rapid finger prick test? Are they both just as accurate and sensitive? Is one better or more reliable than the other? Is it just better to test with ELISA test or is there a difference?
Avatar m tn one quite high positive ELISA, one Immunoblot with a negative result per FOCUS standard but still not the common negative result, one negative Western blot and two indeterminate Western blot. More precisely (in addition, in parentheses, I put in weeks unless otherwise specified, the last three or four times I had sexual activities before taking the first three tests): August 16 2012: ELISA HSV-1 0.3 HSV-2 4.
Avatar m tn Go get tested at 6 weeks and if you want again at 12 weeks for it to be conclusive but a negative at 6 weeks will probably not change. Also test for all other stds just in case. A test past 3 months is not necessary. Pray for me and I will pray for you man. Thank You. And yes the chance from a woman to a man is very low, but not impossible, never put yourself in that situation again. Take care and good health!
Avatar n tn I recently tested positive for HSV2 through an stdexpress igg test via Labcorp (val=2.82). I do not show extreme symptoms like what you might find on google searches, nor do I show symptoms that look really anything like herpes. I have had for years a recurrent rash (usually pops up when seasons change esp. fall-winter) that doctors have 'diagnosed' as dermatitis (I've also thought about possibilities of eczema and psoriasis) that recurs generally in the same area on the tip.
Avatar n tn I read an article on line that states that HSV PCR using spinal fluid is a good way to detect HSV when you have suspicious symptoms but you get a neg on the IgG Elisa tests. It went on to say that antibodies do not stay in the blood for life so if you are asymptomatic and the other tests don't produce results to get the PCR done because the DNA for the virus stays in your body but not in the blood. I was diag using a swab method 17 years ago. I don't have regular symptoms for herpes.
Avatar m tn I had general std testing done on 9/4/12. My IGG test results were negative for HSV-1, but positive for HSV-2 (index value 2.48). I later determined that this score was in the "gray zone" and perhaps false negative (though less likely so, given that I apparently had no HSV-1 antibodies to confuse the issue). I then had WB testing done on 10/24/12. Result: "Indeterminate for HSV.
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar m tn Why is it that they havent made a better way of Elisa or anything? its so a old way to find HIV. The Elisa test is like 20-25 years old. and they still use it? Why.
Avatar m tn i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time. i live in africa, the doctor said that the elisa test i did is excellant and it could detect antibodies even 1 week after last time.
Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
Avatar m tn ve 30.50.60.70.80.86.92.115 elisa test. it necessary to obtain the test to be negative anymore, all the days of 6 months?
Avatar f tn My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !
