Elisa test viral load

Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test viral load

Avatar f tn Clearing the virus means you were exposed and your body fought it off without treatment which happens in 15-40% of cases depending on which studies you read. That is why everyone with a positive antibody needs to confirm it with a pcr/viral load test. As I told you, you have a very low result and it is likely it is a false positive. Get the viral load test and put this to rest.
Avatar n tn From all Ive read here, most people get indeterminates on the Western Blot, not the Elisa. Weird? Anyway, his Western Blot was negative, as was his viral load test. Based on his symptoms...fatigue lasting approx 4 weeks, and his location, his drs have decided to treat him for Lyme disease, and do more testing...something about trying to find the exact strand of HIV(if he is pos). His drs say that he is 99% HIV negative, but I need to be 100% sure to continue.
Avatar m tn You don,t require a viral load test to determine your status, and antibody elisa test is perfectly fine and will be 100% conclusive at 3 months, let alone 8 months.Viral load tests are performed on hiv positive people to establish there viral load and see if there meds are working.
Avatar n tn The PCR can give false positives, costs a lot, sometimes gives false negatives and is not easy to perform. You can have an undetectable viral load and test "negative" but still have the virus. This said, an antibody test is much more reliable overall because if you have antibodies they will show...hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Doctors office opinion is negative but they ran viral load test to rule out early infection. They ask that we run the test again in 6-8 weeks which makes it 6 months since me having sex with condom.
Avatar f tn If I do a pcr test will the test show up positive with a high viral load?? Or will it confirm the accuracy of my 5 negative elisa tests? Is it even certain that my pcr will come back negative or what? Like I've said I've received 5 negative elisas up to the 9 month mark. What should I expect??
Avatar f tn I second this. An EIA or ELISA test is tremendously accurate.
Avatar n tn That 97% is the CDC extreamly ultra conservative approach since in some places they are still using 1st generation test, and the CDC is mixing their 80s results with today results to come up with that porcentage, the real accurateness of a test at 3 months is 99,5% accurate. dont believe that 97% CDC ********, here is a good explanation of that from Dr. McGowagan HIV antibody tests (ELISA) will usually be reactive (positive) by 3 months after exposure to the virus (in 99.5% of cases).
Avatar m tn Drawback(very very unlikely though) In some HIV positive individuals there are cases of undetectable viral load however a hypersensitive viral load test ( sensitivity - 50 copies / ml, 10 copies / ml) are good enough to detect the presence of the virus in the body. 8.
Avatar n tn i feared so much i will get any problem,i took elisa test on 80 th day from the date of exposure it was negative, i took 88 thday pcrviral load test it was negative, then i took 91th day elisa test it was negative, then i took 100day western blot test it was negative,so wat i should do i feared so much daily i do know wat i want to do,i went to APOLLOHOSPITAL he is a virologist he is special for HIV wat he said u took so many test it was negative he said u took pcr viral load test that is also n
Avatar m tn hi i want to know about hiv rna pcr viral load test after 7 months gives accurate result?
Avatar m tn Tested HIV - on 11/30 thru Lab Corp with viral load and elisa test 6 weeks post exposure. Are these results conclusive. Also, in 10/12 I developed small fiber neuropathy in hands, feet, and even face and torso. I keep reading about small fiber neuropathy and HIV and am very anxious that my test results were completed before the window. with only oral sex, (heterosexual) although possible biting of labia, I am at risk?
Avatar f tn The ELISA test is very sensitive and picks up approximately 95% of people who have antibodies as positive. However, it's so sensitive that sometimes it over-identifies antibodies in your blood as geared towards hepatitis C even sometimes when they're not. This degree of sensitivity has its advantages. For instance, when the ELISA test is negative, you can feel very confident that you are hepatitis C free.
Avatar m tn Also, she says the mentioned that her viral load is low, I am in South Africa and not sure if it is standard practice to check viral load of every hiv positive case upon a testing. She also doesn't seem worried about her recent suppose test results and told me that she knows I'm not at risk.
Avatar n tn I was recently screened for HIV and was found reactive for p24 and indeterminate on my western blot. I also had three viral load tests done- HIV-1 RNA, QN, RT-PRC, and they all came back negative. What are my chances that I am HIV positive? The last unprotected sex I had was a little over a month ago.
Avatar m tn I wanted to say that so far you just know that you have been exposed to HCV. You need to have a quantitative test to check for viral load and geno type. You could have been exposed to it and your body was able to fight it off. I hope that is what happened for you. If you find out you do have a viral load then you would want to find a good hepatologist to take care of you.
796855 tn?1237431399 NEW TESTING METHOD FOR HCV VIRAL LOADS Please note that effective mid-August 2005, the laboratory method used for measuring Hepatitis C quantitative viral loads in the OHSU Molecular Diagnostic Center will be changing (test numbers 102-8804 and 102-8814).
Avatar n tn The RNA looks for the HIV virus itself, the DNA is a Viral Load test not used to diagnose HIV but rather to monitor people that already have the virus but it is used as a diagnostic test for infants born to HIV+ mothers.
Avatar m tn a pcr is used to moniter the already infected people, the cross contamination can give out false positive more often than an elisa, and even so a undetected viral load has to be followed by an antibody test at the 3 months mork, so pcr is a waste of money so go for an antibody test at 3 months mark
Avatar n tn 3 months after exposure i had a positive elisa and an indeterminate western blot showing 1 band of p24 as equivocal. test result said could be in process of seroconversion. I also had a viral load test which was negative. am I at risk? My physician told me no risk because if i was in early stage of hiv or seroconverting my viral load will be detectable. Help.
Avatar m tn just one thing, i read an article that say if you have low cd4 and very high viral load then the tests may miss the infection and give false negative results (like people with advanced hiv) then viral load test is needed or a WB. and is there a viral load test for hiv 2 like how those people may know the progression of the disease?
Avatar m tn hi sir/mam i had sexsual exposure with sex worker and the condom broke for 1 or 2 seconds then i changed then after i did pcr proviral dna pcr test the result was non reactive then after 6 weeks rapid test for hiv1/2 the result was negative then after 3 months elisa result was non reactive then after 5 months the result was negative then after 6 months 4th generation elisa test the result was also non reactive then after 8 months rapid test as well as rna pcr viral load test for hiv 1 the resul
Avatar m tn Your antibody test, the ELISA test, will always remain positive because you will always have the antibodies (but not the virus) in your bloodstream even after you have attained Sustained Viral Response (cure). This is a normal response to being exposed to the disease. If we get vaccinations against diseases, we then carry antibodies to the diseases but we do not have the diseases.
