My girlfriend and I tested for hiv and my girlfriend got the result back today. The result says "negative" and in "reference range" column states "nonreactive". It says that test was "hiv 1/2 ABS /W RFLX CONFIRMATION". It also says hiv-1/hiv-2 ABS ELISA. Does that mean ELISA was done first and then confirmed with something else? Or does it mean that it was confirmed by another test because the result of ELISA wasn't good?
The numbers state in the cut-off values have nothing to do with your test result. You will get "nonreactive" or "reactive." If it is nonreactive, then you are negative given you took the test 3 months or later after your last unprotected encounter. The numbers will always fluctuate due to a number of reasons, but it has nothing to do with your overall test result.
both test carried out on the same day, i have unproteced sex with girlfriend on 8 th oct at 12.30 pm & on one month hiv rapid test carried for both it comes negative, after one & half month Elisa comes back negative, nonreactive, & on 30 Dec i.e.
ve had 3 negative ICMA tests, and one negative Elisa test but my doctor incorrectly ordered a western blot for me to which I had the p24 band present and one other band equivocal. He said we had to retest in 4-6 weeks. After the western blot I went to a different doctor who is a friend and ordered me an Elisa. That was nonreactive. However, because the first doctor is my primary physician, I had to retest.

What is your opinion towards the possibility of HIV infection? To what extent this ELISA test(25th day test) can be reliable?
I have had a 3rd generation ELISA test which came back nonreactive... should I have another at 28 days to confirm? Just to clear my doubts?
I had a above said test after 6days of exposure [unsafe sexual contact]. My doctor said if it comes negative then you don't need to go for other any test like HIV ELISA, as this is the very advanced & confirmed test.
May I know is it true? How reliable is the above test. Pls consult I am in high dipression & having mental sterss which is affecting my family,social & professional life. I can not concentrate on my work.
