Elisa test validity

Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test validity

elisa-test

Avatar m tn Would a 12 week Elisa and a 16 week UniGold Rapid test still be considered conclusive if you found out a month later that your latest WBC came up low during a routine physical? A follow-up test showed that my WBC returned to normal a few weeks later. I see on the internet that immunocompromised people can take longer to seroconvert, but I am not sure if I would be in that category. I never used drugs and I'm not on chemo. Nor do I have diabetes or any other diagnosed issue.
Avatar f tn I second this. An EIA or ELISA test is tremendously accurate.
Avatar m tn confirmatory means in this case that it is unlikely and elisa confirms or does it me PCR DNA has no validity and if I was infected it could not tell?
Avatar m tn Therefore, when i went back to USA i took a HIV DNA test by the PCR and an ELISA test after 33 days the test was done by Labcorp. The result came back NEGATIVE. Result. HIV DNA, PCR/HIV AB HIV-DNA BY PCR HIV DNA RT BY PCR -> NEGATIVE HIV-1 DNA NOT DETECTED HIV 1/0/2 ABS-INDEX VALUE <1.0 NON-REACTIVE END My Questions. 1.
Avatar m tn If the test came back negative then you do not have any HIV antibodies. Test again if you want peace of mind, but as of your last test you were negative.
Avatar n tn In many cases the clinics do not know which type of test is in use. They will just say it's an antibody test and to test outside the window period. I asked the health advisor here what type of test they used when they tested me at 28 days. She was a little taken aback I asked and said it was just a normal antibody test. It was only after I tested outside the window that I found out the test they use is a combined Antibody / P24 Antigen test.
Avatar f tn Does the rapid test being negative 4 weeks after the indeterminate Western Blot have any validity at all? Just wondering if I can breath a little easier while I wait the next two weeks out, or if the rapid test I just took is essentially worthless... Thanks!
Avatar m tn I just read this personal story. It states "You can test false negative, over and over, whether or not you exhibit the classical signs of herpes. You can have the disease for years, and still test negative. Herpes likes to hide." I would just like to know the validity of that statement. I tested negative myself three time at 12 weeeks, 4 months, and 6 months. On herpeselect Elisa. I was very paranoid for awhile, and now reading that staement it knd of scares me.
Avatar m tn They are both antibody tests--different names--both have to be confirmed with a WB if positive.
Avatar f tn I informed him about the research i did about false postive elisa test and the validity of the Western Blot and the expert research done at the U of W. He became fustrated with me and i simply walked out of his office.
601156 tn?1229285825 I believe from what I could find that it's just the machine that they use for elisa testing and not the actual herpes test but I could be wrong. Terri warren , the herpes expert here on medhelp, would be the better person to ask this question to.
Avatar n tn PCR and VL test are not diagnostic tests. Jut get an antibody test at 6-8 weeks then get your conclusive test at 3 months.
Avatar n tn Some doctors believe we should begin treatment (1 month IV Ceftriaxone) while others question the validity of the test due to the negative blood tests, no symptoms, no bite and the potential cross reactivity of the acute autoimmune event during which the CSF was drawn. I am leaning toward requesting another CSF test to rule out a false positive but we are not thrilled about another lumbar puncture.
Avatar m tn You never had an exposure.
Avatar n tn Doctor I took an elisa test at the local clinic in august of this year due to a suspected exposure in march. It was negative, then I took one in september, October then two in November all negative. However I'm still concerned due to strange symptoms I have been having. I just know I have it. I'm not at all promiscuous but I think I have it. I only wonder is my body just not producing antibodies or am I needing to wait a year and retest.
Avatar f tn If one were to have a 1st or 2nd generation test done it would effect the validity that much where over a year (like myself) would or may not be good enough? I mean over a year seems like a longggg time. And the icma test performed is newer than the 3rd generation elisa used. Its equally reliable or better than 3rd gen elisa, or so I have heard. I would imagine a test that came into use years after a 3rd Gen Elisa that is blood drawn and tests for 1 O and 2 would be good don't you think.
Avatar m tn Hello, I had vaginal intercourse with a female in Dominican Republic on what we'll call "Day 1". I was using a condom but it broke. I pulled out and noticed that the condom has broken in half and the top was gone. The female got tested in Dominican Republic on "Day 6" and the test came back negative. A week after the incident I had a terrible kink in my neck for 4-6 days that I could not seem to get rid of.
Avatar f tn these people that told you their opinion on the test do not know what they are taling about...the test has a 99% accuracy rate. it is just as reliable as an ELISA test. so, man, if you tested negative at 3 months, then you are negative... please feel confident in your result..
Avatar f tn Hello, i have a question about the validity of an elisa test when a severe allergic reaction, tetanus shot, sinusitis, three different medications; two antihistamines one oral steroid were present prior to testing. I tested positive on two seperate tests for hsv 2, first being 4.70 second being 8.39, the indexes were exactly the same and the tests were done only 8 days apart.
Avatar n tn Frascino Hi, The recommended test for HIV screening is an HIV-antibody test (ELISA, EIA, rapid test, etc.). The Western Blot is a confirmatory test that should only be run to confirm a reactive (positive) screening test! That said, your negative result is definitive and yes, HIV-screening tests and Western Blots would be accurate 17 years after an exposure. You can read much more about HIV diagnostic tests in the archives of this forum. Check it out! Dr.
Avatar m tn s no way to know about the validity of your test for sure unless you are able to get a confirmatory test. If I were in your situation, I could believe the positive value until or unless it is shown to be an error.
Avatar m tn Most IgG tests are ELISA tests. Herpeselect, Capital etc. are all ELISA tests. Just about every test with with a numerical result will be an ELISA test. Sometimes there can be cross reactivity between HSV1 and HSV2 but more likely it is other protein junk sticking to the testing wells. Westover Heights will be able to help you get a WB test, you'll need to have blood collected in another state.
Avatar f tn I called Labcorp to talk about the test readings, but after reading more info on the specific tests, I probably should have asked what test they used, right? Is there another test that is more accurate for this screening that I should ask for? I have not had any signs whatsoever of a problem. I'm a nervous wreck over this. Fear... of the possibility of having this.
Avatar n tn The ear infections cleared up with antibiotics and I tested for HIV with a rapid finger prick test and also an Elisa after 37 days – both negative. I started to put it out of my mind and swore I would never have sex in Africa again (had/have no intention) but 9 days ago on a night out, I stupidly kissed a prostitute for 5 – 10 seconds whilst another had her hands on my penis for 30 seconds. I know that I’ve been beyond stupid and my life is absolute hell now.
Avatar f tn Hi Grace, I am concerned I may have genital herpes. I happened to notice three very small pink bumps, although they were the size of "normal" bumps, on my lower left labia on Thursday. I looked again on Friday and they were gone. On Saturday, after going to the restroom in the morning I wiped and noticed a spot of blood. Dabbed again, blood again. I looked at my labia and it maybe looked like two very small indented areas from the same area the bumps were and it was no longer bleeding.
