Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test uk

elisa-test

Avatar m tn after reading several posts, I understand that doctors in UK consider standard 3rd generation ELISA antibody test at 8 weeks conclusive. Is it true that in UK at 8 weeks, it is considered conclusive although international guideline is still 3 months.
Avatar m tn 1) As I now believe, in the UK an ELISA test is used, either third or fourth generation. A third generation test, tests for antibodies in the blood, that if present will then lead to a further Western Blot test for confirmation. A fourth generation test is a test that looks for antigens as well as anitbodies in the blood. Antigens are proteins that the virus produces. 2) A fourth generation test is also known as a DUO or Combi HIV test.
Avatar m tn Hi Frank, The Information provided is Great, If all the GUM Clinics in UK use the 4th Generation Elisa Test than normal 3rd Generation Elisa Test, I feel I can go to any Private clinic in UK to get Tested like Freedomhealth,UK or Samedaydoctor or else many more Private clinics are available for the Testing I guess.I was worried on the reliability of 4th Generation Elisa Test HIV DUO whether it was reliable or not?? If we could rely on it I would get tested from Private Clinic.
Avatar n tn hi i recently ordered a hiv test kit over the internet from a company called Labpro it came to the uk via malysia, it was a elisa test kit and gave a negative result, how confident should i be of this result?
Avatar n tn Just had a test yesterday and was wondering if the ELISA (UK gum clinics) check for the p24. I did not ask them.
Avatar m tn no risk, just extremely interested in different countries views on when a "conclusive" result is given. I'm from UK and it seems that the DUO test is most recognised ELISA test and they seem to suggest 28+ day test is conclusive and only reason 3 month test is requested is to cover the medical bodies. IN your experience how many people who test neg at 6 weeks on DUO test then go onto test positive at 3 months??
Avatar m tn 1) Does a UK GUM clinic use a 3rd/4th generation ELISA test? If not what do they use? 2) A single HIV test (be it 3rd or 4th gen) at a UK GUM clinic is testing for both HIV1 and 2 antibodies from one test? (as it appears there are two seperate ELISA tests from what DR Gonzales says) I appreciate your responses and that maybe you feel you've answered this already, but I cannot understand just a "YES".
5871250 tn?1377708161 Ok listen my infectious diseases consultant orderd me a lyme blood test im in the UK what they do here is if the ELISA test comes positive they carry out a WESTERN BLOT now after speaking to the guys at the bloodtest unit he kinda gave it away that a westernblot was carried out so this means that the elisa came positive right?
Avatar m tn Also the nature of test conducted like HIV Duo will give result in 28 days et al creates confusion among the people...it means if somebody in UK is negative in UK and if he moves in India the risk is still there....can u guys pls clarify ?
Avatar m tn I had a HIV test carried out at my local NHS GUM clinic in April. I was not told what type of test was used I am presuming an ELISA test of at least the Third Generation, as per UK guidelines (unless someone knows differently, is this the test used?). I was wondering does the third generation test also detect HIV-2 as well as HIV-1? I have not found a conclusive answer to this on the internet. I think the fourth generation test detects both?
Avatar m tn Fourth gen Elisa duo and I wouldn't know whatever they use in the NHS Scotland.
Avatar m tn I’m thinking of having another blood test done with a lab that uses an ELISA Test – but I have read there is risk with false positives on this test, would I be at risk of gaining a false positive? I have not had sex since that last encounter due to depression and anxiety which I seem to be getting over now so I’m hopeful of getting back into the dating game, hence my sudden fear that i may be carrying something that i could pass on.
Avatar n tn Jose is talking about elisa 3th gen.test ..he always give same answers to Elisa.8 weeks and re-test 12 weeks i know. but for 4th generation tests he says 28 days is conclusive. please look ( for 32 days ) http://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV---International/Hiv/show/1985253 he suggest 4th generation to be cunclusive. again he says negatve duo test is conclusve at 4 weeks http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Now ive booked for a blood test in London but its £160 (no blood tests avaialble on NHS) and they tell me its the elisa test/biokit. My question is: Is this elisa test worth paying this much for? they tell me its type specific but is it accurate..anyone know?
Avatar m tn 4th generation tests are not conclusive until 3 months post exposure no different than any other ELISA test. Look at the UK HIV testing guidelines. "Post-test discussion for individuals who test HIV negative" The need for a repeat HIV test if still within the window period after a specific exposure should be discussed.
Avatar f tn But in my country the guidelines said that a 4th generation test negative 6 weeks post exposure without any other risk is conclusive ( 4months in case of a pep ). In France, doctors sais that in 10 years they never saw a negative test at 6 weeks turning positive later. My questions are just followings : 1-Is there someone here that was negative with a 4th generation test at 6 weeks and turned positive later ? 2- How do we know if we are immuno-depressed ?
Avatar f tn Austrailia uses the same guidelines as the UK. 3 months post exposure for a conclusive test result even if a DUO test is used.
Avatar f tn The negative test that you had at 8 weeks is certainly highly reassuring and a very good indication as it is possible to detect the HIV antibodies already at that stage. However current UK guidelines still recommend to have a final test at 12 weeks for it to be considered final and fully conclusive. Having said all that, and speaking out of my own clinical experience, I have never come across anyone testing negative at 8 weeks and then positive at 12 weeks.
Avatar f tn m aware hsv1 sometimes does not show up on the elisa test and it requires a western blot / immunoblot test doing. Is this possible in the UK, or only America? Dr Hook believes it is unwarrented as i don't even know defintitly HSV however can i rely on the current blood test? Dr Hook states even if it was HSV 1 genital it is nothing to worry about regarding tranmission. Can i be certain i don't have HSV 2 and the Elisa is not picking it up?
Avatar n tn I got tested in week 5 after potential exposure with the determine combo test (antigenop24+ antibodyHIV1/2) and the result was negative. In a 3rd generation ELISA test two days later the result was also negative. Can I expect changes in the result?
Avatar m tn Firstly, might be a good one to know for any UK citizens, but they appear now to use the 4th generation test that includes the P24 antigen test (this was confirmed to me by the doc at the GU clinic) Any literature i found said 3rd gen, so that's good news Secondly, assuming i take the test at day 22-23 after last known risk. I've read that antibodies CAN be detected from 22 days onwards (on average) but i've not managed to find too much info on the antigens ...
