You don't need a PCR test. PCR-DNA test is not a diagnostic test. Go get an ELISA test if you have a concern.
I'm going back to my country after few months away in a business job. I stopped in Toronto for 2 days and I went to get an HIV test at a private clinic. They said they couldn't do an ELISA with results ready in 1 day so they offered me a INSTI rapid test (3 months gone after one time unprotected sex). Luckily result was negative, 1 dot appeared only.
Now what do you suggest. To get an Elisa test once I get home before having unprotected sex with my wife again?

go to another anonymous centre in toronto (if you are in toronto), and ask ofr Elisa antibody test, they check for both strains.
although i have five negative test, one at 6th week (Elisa third generation), 8th week (p24 antingen), 12th week rapid test (toronto), 14th week (Elisa antibody test), and 15th week rapid test. All came back negative. The elisa test result that i received yesterday were negative, but it has increased my anxiety, because it was written at the bottom of the test results that any one showing persistent symptoms compatible with hiv should retest at the 6 months.
If you take an elisa test at 8 weeks it is a good indication and follow up at 3 months for a conclusive result.
If you go with a rapid test make sure it is a blood one, the oral ones have been known to have higher than normal false positives. This is one reason why waiting for 3 months is a good idea so you do not get a false positive.
But like I said 8 weeks is a good indication and 3 months is conclusive.
my doctor is said to me to give pcr-rt (quantitative) test? what is pcr? I am very worried.
There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.
My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !

About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though.
I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.
Hi i Just wanted to know how accurate is ELISA third generation tests is,
my last sex was at 04/11/2010 i did the first test on 22/1/2011 the result wasELISA : HIV1&HIV2 NEGATIVE (0.15) i started to get worried of the number so i did a second test on 15/2/2011 just to make sure that i completed 3 monthes and the rsult came ELISA : HIV1&HIV2 NEGATIVE (0.33) i freeked out why that number is keeping rising !!
Their lab uses the “Herpe Select” Immunoblot test for HSV. It does both Igm/IgG testing if required. This test is NOT covered by Public Health Plan - Cost is 140$ Lab is based in Montreal. The turn around time is 1-2 weeks.
The test by Immunoblot HSV1 is 92%-100% accurate.
The test by Immunoblot HSV2 is 98%-100% accurate.
Public Health (in Ontario at least) does IgG HSV ELISA/EIA testing.
