I had my ELISA test a week ago and it turned out to be positive. I am so shocked when I knew it and yet I couldnt help anything about it. I am so down but I can still manage myself to do my ADL's (Activites of Daily Living). I submitted myself for a Western Blot and PCR and the result will be availble in a week or two. How high is the probability that I can have a postive on the latter tests? I need help. Thanks.
You are not positive for HIV until they come back with the result of the western blot.

Is it more probable that I had a false negative rapid or a false positive lab based ELISA? I always thought the lab based tests were more accurate? Is the rapid oraquick just as able to detect HIV 2 antibodies as the lab based one? Still waiting for HIV 2 western blot results. Also, wanted to know if when the lab based antibody 1/2 test is reactive, do they do a HIV 2 antibody test alone before doing a HIV 2 WB or do they go straight to WB like they do for HIV 1?
my doctor is said to me to give pcr-rt (quantitative) test? what is pcr? I am very worried.

About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though.
I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !
The doctor told me that my ELISA test was positive and so they sent my blood sample for an Antigen Western Blot test which came back negative. The doctor told me that 99,999% the Elisa test was false because of other factors that might affect the blood but he asked me to retest in one week.

What I am most worried about is that we had a son about a year and a half ago, even though both my wife and I have tested negative for HIV is there still a chance we are positive? When my wife found it she was pregnant they had her do an HIV test and it was negative. Before she gave birth they had her do another one and she was negative. I took one about 3 weeks ago and it was negative. Is there a possibility that there are not enough HIV antibodies in our blood after 7 years of exposure?
Confirmatory testing is only done when the ELISA is positive. But a positive ELISA with negative confirmatory test is absolute proof against HIV, no different than if the ELISA were positive.
There were no conflicting test results in your case. If you doubt this, ask the provider who ordered the test. Time to move on. That's all for this thread.
1. My current test results, positive ELISA/EIA, negative WB, negative DNA PCR does NOT rule out the possibility of HIV infection. Other strains of HIV-1 and HIV-2 are a possibility (although rare). The sensitivity of the DNA PCR is NOT 100% (it's around 95-98% from what I've seen online).
2. I should at least humor the current 'Gold Standard' and retake the anti-body test at the 3 month mark (12/28/2012 marks the 3 month mark from my last unprotected vaginal intercourse).

hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.
I'm sorry I forgot to ask this as well. Is there a chance I will always test positive via elisa and do you recommend further testing. I'm sorry to ask in two seperate comments. I know I may be getting annoying I'm just worried and I know most of my doubts are because of anxiety.
ELISAs in the same way that we do for tests such as herpes. Rather, a positive test (any positive test) is then tested using a different test- sometimes a Western blot, other times using another test such a rapid test which tests for different viral proteins than the ELISA. The second test should be done on the same blood specimen as the first test taken. Thus I am a bit surprised at several things:
1. That the Western blot will take 2 weeks

just 1 week back.i got it tested from a path lab by rapid elisa test in blood.both hiv 1 and hiv 2 were negative.
Am I correct in assuming that a false positive ELISA is far more common than a false negative ELISA/rapid test? (i.e., why trust a negative test when a positive test proved false in my case?)
Also, as my false positive situation seems to be transient, am I likely to have a repeat "transient" experience or do those generally seem to be one-time anamolies? Or is this something we do not know?
