Avatar f tn 5) Lastly, How likely is it that this immunoblot test will be positive. I am a white female who has never engaged in any sexual activities with anyone from west africa. I am not sure about my partners past, but I can say that he has had a "shady" past that I have recently been aware of. Thank you in advance for you help and answers.
Avatar m tn is there a possibility it was a false positive result? Does the medication I’m taking have a side effect if it was a false positive? Does the IgM result matter at all? Given that i have not had any sexual interourse since my completely negative result in October 2017? Thank you for your help.
Avatar n tn Assuming one does not put themselves at further risk since a questionable incident, have you ever had patients test negative on an ELISA at 4 weeks and positive on a subsequent test at 12 weeks? What about a negative ELISA at 6 weeks and positive at 12 weeks? Thanks for your assistance, it has been very helpful.
1071730 tn?1256724859 It looks positive to me as well, but since you have recentally had a miscarriage I would call your ob and make an appointment, because after having a miscarrriage (espically that close to this pregnancy) they will want to get an ultrasound for dating purposes!
280418 tn?1306325910 I had a positive ELISA and a Western Blot was recommended. I don't know if I was bit. I was bit 20 years ago and had the head of the tip stuck in my scalp for a week. Other than that, I don't know of any ticks/bites. I just called my PCP to follow-up on the positive ELISA. I guess I'll take it from there. Thanks for the info!
5871250 tn?1377708161 Why would you get a positive elisa but negative western blot this meansy elsia was false positive so what can cause false positive a flu a cold is it just non specific? Have i got a disease or is it a toss of a coin can someone answer this i dont want any links just an straight fwd answer my doctor says results are non specific.
Avatar f tn Is it more probable that I had a false negative rapid or a false positive lab based ELISA? I always thought the lab based tests were more accurate? Is the rapid oraquick just as able to detect HIV 2 antibodies as the lab based one? Still waiting for HIV 2 western blot results. Also, wanted to know if when the lab based antibody 1/2 test is reactive, do they do a HIV 2 antibody test alone before doing a HIV 2 WB or do they go straight to WB like they do for HIV 1?
Avatar n tn In other words, while false positives may be considered relatively rare, a true infection in a person such as yourself is much rarer. And as Lizzie indicated, a positive result on an ELISA does not mean anything if the Western Blot is negative. The negative WB means that you do not have antibodies against HIV proteins in your blood, proving that you are not infected.
Avatar f tn elisa is a useless old test for hbsag and useless on cronic carriers, it does not make hbsag quantity and that number has no meaning, you have to look for abbott architect and number in iu/ml possibility to make it negative is very very little but if it is lower than 500iu/ml there is possibility
Avatar n tn You are not positive for HIV until they come back with the result of the western blot. Did you have unprotected vaginal or anal sex? When was the last time?
Avatar f tn All my blood work came back normal, except a positive ANA (would mg cause this), a borderline impaired glucose tolerance test, a negative CK (or it might sound like polymyositis). My MRI came back normal, and 5 more weeks until my EMG. Any information would really be appreciated.
Avatar n tn actually it's not "whatever you read on the internet" , it's the 2010 cdc herpes testing guidelines. Encourage your provider to better educate himself!!! the false positive issues are well known enough that your provider not following up on this properly is actually grounds for a malpractice suit. definitely your results are low enough to make it worth pursing a herpes WB blood test.
Avatar f tn You have a very low score which can mean you are having a false positive. Do what your doctor recommends. The pcr test, better known as the viral load test, looks for actual virus, not just the antibodies. You may have been exposed and you may have cleared the virus without treatment; you may have a false positive, or you be infected. Don't worry ahead of time and actually with the new treatments, there is a cure for almost everyone. My best to you.
Avatar m tn Your doctor is right, everybody will have numbers if an ELISA test is done. .16 is a negative HerpeSelect test (it seems like you had this test done, but of course I'm not 100%) and .43 is a negative Chlamydia result IF anything below .90 is negative. You could also test for gonorrhea if you are getting a full STD screen. However, your other results are conclusive. Herpes tests can take up to 4 months to become positive, but oral sex is very low risk.
Avatar n tn A false positive occurs when the ELISA test comes up positive for hep C antibodies, but the person taking the test was never exposed to hep C virus, which leads the RNA test to read as negative. The problem is that antibodies that the immune system has produced to combat infections other than hep C can be what’s known as “cross-reactive”: The ELISA winds up picking up on these antibodies’ presence and incorrectly coming up positive.

1132555 tn?1278078501 I took a test earlier, but waited a few hours to look at the result. Do this look neg or pos and does my waiting so long to check it mean it could be inaccurate? Thanks in advance! http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k163/DominicaBella/008.
Avatar m tn Does it say what kind of test it is? Does it say ELISA? That is the most common screening test. There is also an IFA test, but the ranges are different for that. On the IFA, less than 80 is officially negative, although IGenex calls 40-79 Equivocal. If you had a result over 900, somewhere it should say POSITIVE either next to your result, or elsewhere in the explanation. If your ELISA was positive, the lab should have automatically run the second test, a better one called a Western Blot.
Avatar m tn Those two tests are the usual first stop when a doc is trying to confirm or discard a Lyme diagnosis. If the W.blot/ELISA test(s) are positive, they are generally considered reliable; however, if the test(s) are negative, they may well be a *false* negative, meaning that the test says 'no infection' but there really is an infection in place that needs to be killed off, just as you would do with an ear infection, strep throat, etc.
Avatar f tn how accurate is a negative elisa test 3 weeks post risky exposure for a woman (unprotected sex) with a hiv positive man? my doctor says its 100% accurate, is this true....
