Avatar m tn Kaisernetwork.org says that the OraQuick test is 99.8% accurate. It also turns out these tests can return false positive results. However, I would recommend an HIV anti-body blood test over an OraQuick test any day. I have seen that tests like this don't really help with the fear one might have over being infected with HIV.
Avatar n tn and start using the newer generation test, espicially if the public thinks three months is conclusive. the standard elisa hiv test is best used between 3 and 6 months. i think , im not really sure about that.can anyone clearify that .
Avatar m tn Yes, the OraQuick assay is just as god as the standard ELISA test. It had to past the same level of testing and perform equally withthe ELISA tests to be approved by the FDA and this has been shown repeatedly by studies.
Avatar m tn I recently had HIV test done in Advanced Dermatalogy Clinic in NYC. They drew blood from my vein and it took them only 30 minutes to produce a result. According to them it's not one of the point of care tests like Oraquick or Reveal. It's is in fact and Elisa test. They have a lab in the facility and say that the results are 99.9% correct. Is this believable? Would a respectable clinic lie to their patients? I never heard of such a quick turn around on Elisa test.
Avatar m tn Could anyone tell me how accurate an Oraquick oral swab test will be at six weeks? I am well aware that three months is conclusive. I just want to know if a six week test will give me some peace of mind while I wait for three months to pass. Thank you.
Avatar m tn There are two home tests available now in the USA. The home access test (blood test) and the oraquick test (saliva test). Is one more reliable than the other for early testing? A few things I am considering here are: 1) I believe Dr. Hook said that blood tests tend to detect positive results slightly earlier than saliva tests and 2) the home access test is a 2nd generation assay whereas oraquick is a 3rd generation assay. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Had an oraquick finger prick test and it was negative after one year of my one time unprotected exposure. Currently seeing an infectious disease doctor because my Lyme disease western blot was positive. The doctor is doing another hiv Elisa test..he says the results will be available in 3 days. Is there a chance that the Elisa will be positive and that the rapid test didn't catch the infection?
Avatar m tn I think the OraQuick is a good chance im OK but I suppose the ELISA will better confirm. Also if the ELISA test comes back negative do you think I should test again at 3 months or this is good enough?
Avatar f tn These have been conducted well over 12 months post risk event. Unprotected with female. I had a false positive repeatedly reactive elisa hiv test followed by a negative ifa and negative naat. I did a oraquick home test and got a negative result a week after the elisa. I waited a month and got tested again using the elisa and got the same repeatedly reactive result but this time with a negative western blot. I did another oraquick home test and that was negative again.
Avatar n tn m worried about the accuracy of oraquick test, is it reliable? is it the same accurate as ELISA? Do i need to take another test 90 days after exposure? Thank you, doc.
Avatar n tn At least you have donde Elisa, i just did a oraquick and oraquick advance...like 10 test average 2.5 every months! You'll be fine you have done Elisa, so you are good!
Avatar n tn I did a oraquick test at 1 month with a negative result. Im concerned with these symptoms, and this girl I had sex with traveled in south america for 8 months prior to comming back to the states. My question how likely is the test to change at 3 months ( I know thats the standard). Would me having symptoms prior to taking the test have made it positive if it was ars? Should I get the dna pcr test to get an answer now so I dont have to wait 2 more months?
Avatar m tn I had a risky encounter in Pattaya, Thailand. I had unprotected sex for about 1 min with a bar girl and then used a condom. Unprotected oral sex as well. I had crazy symptoms like rashes, neck pain, fatigue, breathlessness, mouth ulcers, random pain in thighs and hand, tingling in fingers and legs. The neck pain, ulcers, tingling and a few others still exist. I used the oraquick advance 1/2 4 times and tested negative 4 times.
Avatar n tn Retest at 3 months post exposure with the OraQuick or ELISA test and obtain a conclusive test result. PCR-DNA test is not a test used in HIV diagnostics nor is it approved for it unless you are infant of 18 months or less and were born to a positive mother.
Avatar f tn Hello, hope someone can help me. My last possible risk exposure to hiv was unprotected with a female. I am a male. I didn't know her status and it's been over 1 year and 4 months since then. No recent exposures since. I tried to donate blood last week and got a letter stating my blood screening for hiv using elisa was priliminary positive followed by a negative elisa and negative NAAT. They told me it was a false positive and I am scared to death.
Avatar f tn You were never exposed to any risk of HIV, therefore never needed a test.
