280418 tn?1306325910 The more I find about Lyme, the more anxious I get for the Igenex Western Blot test to help with this diagnosis. MS has been pretty much ruled out in my doctors' opinion (1 lesion, neg. LP, neg. everything). MS and Lyme symptoms can be similar, right? I have read that there are several false negatives with the ELISA, but I'm not hearing much about false positives, other than they are less likely. Is it wrong that I am getting somewhat excited at the prospect of a diagnosis?
5871250 tn?1377708161 The Lyme committee that recommended the ELISA as a screening test had one or more members with patents on the ELISA that made money in royalites off the test. The CDC ran a study a couple years ago to use their 2-tier testing protocol against a European strain of Borrelia, and found it was only 50% accurate. Since LLMDs in the U.S.
Avatar m tn s eye shaped) in her forehead when dx with ms 8 years ago. ELISA test for Lyme came back negative then, but we know how unreliable these are. Do you have any idea/suggestion about this? Anything y appreciated.
410821 tn?1202914556 What my neuro wrote for was a western blot reflex test which means that they do a screening test first (ELISA, EIA, etc.--which are pretty much worthless) and if it comes back negative, they NEVER do the western blot-which is much more accurate. PLEASE make sure that if you were tested that it was actually a WESTERN BLOT and like Rebeccah said, find out if any bands were positive. For anyone interested, here is an explanation about different testing for lyme: http://www.drcharlescrist.
1094641 tn?1258744578 The first test they do is called the Lyme ELISA. If this is positive, it would explain all of your symptoms. If it is negative, I would request that you be tested further with a test called the Lyme Wester Blot. This is more accurate. Most docs will drop the subject if the ELISA is negative, but the test has far too many false negatives.
Avatar n tn And do NOT let them give you the standard ELISA test. If you have symptoms severe enough to make you wonder about any of these conditions & you have Lyme, it is already entrenched behind the blood-brain barrier. The Lyme spirochete invades theCSF and can penetrate the blood-brain barrier within 12 hours of infection. Insist on full Western Blot, PCR, or one of the newer and more reliable tests.
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar f tn if the ELISA and W.blot tests are positive, the results are reliable; if they are negative, they could be wrong. PCR however is accurate, but nonLyme docs usually refuse to use PCR, believing that ELISA and Wblot are good enough. Duh. You ask: "Any thoughts or advice on what I should do or if my symptoms sounds like Possible Lyme?" See a Lyme specialist without delay. "I feel worse by the day for the most part and the hand tremors are getting worse.

Avatar m tn There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.

Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
Avatar m tn hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.

Avatar m tn with refer to no.1. it seems HIV antigen (for ELISA test) could withstand for long period after taken out from human body? In addition, may I know what should do and dont's before blood sampling for ELISA test for HIV? e.g. fasting, take medicine, smoking, sufficient sleep, no fever etc....
Avatar m tn There are two types of test for Lyme disease, Elisa and Western blot. Elisa is not usually that precise, Always is better to ask for western blot. But when you finance it on your own it can be expensive. Im basically through the same thing, simillar symtoms and no diagnosis. I am talking to endocrinologist now and I hope it will lead somewhere..
Avatar m tn ) To make a long story short I went for a few MRIs. They found 2 white matter lesions in my brain. I took the ELISA test which came back as false positive and then tested negative on the Western blot. This past December I had a lumbar puncture and my CSF fluid tested positive for certain Oligoclonal bands (at which point my Neurologist made a Diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis), however the lab over looked testing for Lyme even though my Doctor had ordered it.
