hi all, i had unprotected vaginal sex with lady unknown HIV status , after 20 days i took screening test using ELISA methode 4th generation the result is negative , and then on 35 days i took same test but the lab technician told me that he only detect antibody because P24 antigen detected on few weeks after exposure , meaning on 2nd test ( 35 days ) only antibody test but using ELISA 4th gen. any expert can explain how the accurate my test?

people keep mentioning the tests as though there is one ELISA test for HIV1 and another ELISA test for HIV2. This is not the case, a single ELISA test is looking for antibodies produced for HIV1 and HIV2. In the UK specifically I now know that whether a third or fourth generation test is used they are both testing for HIV1 and HIV2 antibodies (in the fourth generation the anitgen part is only detecting HIV1 I believe).

Hello Teak, thanks for the reply. I know that a 7 week test is not conclusive, this is why I took another one today close to 3 months. When i was at the labratory (private) i noticed the "diagnostic machine" that possibly my test was performed. I am anxious waiting the results and i try to find some optimism this why i ask about "generation question".

A wb test would a confirmation test if you had a posotive elisa test.

Well I just found out something great. I found out my doctor accidentally tested me for HIV-2 with the EIA and the WB, but not HIV-1. Now I feel sick to my stomach because I do not know if the HIV-2 test could have been sensitive to HIV-1, and the confirmatory test was not. elisa is a useless old test for hbsag and useless on cronic carriers, it does not make hbsag quantity and that number has no meaning, you have to look for abbott architect and number in iu/ml possibility to make it negative is very very little but if it is lower than 500iu/ml there is possibility
