Avatar f tn So I went to the hospital today due to back aches and mild cramps . I took a urine test and they found some listeria , I've been put on antibiotics for 10 days . I'm going to call my OB tomorrow to hear te results on the cultures they took. I'm nervous and scared because I have read that it can effect the baby , are there any mothers that have had a similar story but had a good outcome ?
Avatar n tn this week i got blood test which was showed that listeria IGG is 1/1000 diult . Is it showed that i had been infected by that during pregnancy ? and Is it possible to get it next pregnancy?
Avatar f tn Call your doc and explain what happened. If it was from deli meat for sure, it could be listeria, and that can have consequences for the baby. So please ask the doctor if there is any kind of test that can be done to rule out listeria.
Avatar m tn But, if you were my patient, in the absence of symptoms, I would not run a test for Listeria, nor would I recommend that you have it done elsewhere. The CDC reports about 1700 cases of Listeriosis in the US each year. This seems like a lot until you remember that the population of the US is 1.2 billion people. So the risk is 1700/1,200,000,000 which is so small that my calculator won't give the answer without a power of 10. I hope this will reasure you somewhat.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately unless you test every piece of meat, there is no way of knowing whether the listeria bacteria are on them. It has nothing to do with whether it is a "good" or "bad" meat. Just like many of the foods we eat, they have bacteria on or in them, it's in how they are prepared as to whether this bacteria can adversely affect the person eating it.
Avatar f tn I had a bit of diarrhea this morning and am worried that the beans had listeria in them because of the kielbasa. I warmed up the beans after a couple of bites to be sure that any organism had been killed, but I still had a few bites before warming it up that had "co-habitated" with the kielbasa. I am really worried. My doc said that listeriosis is so rare and doesn't usually present with diarrhea. I am still really worried. Any words of comfort welcome.
Avatar f tn Listeria is something that can effect us all, pregnant or not. My ob said the only case of Listeria she had heard about in her 30 years of practice was on a soap opera. lol. Really, there is nothing to be worried about. The chances of contracting listeria is slim to none. But always make sure the meat has been stored properly.
Avatar f tn Has any of you ladies had that bacteria called listeria? I be so worried about my baby & everything I just want him to be healthy. I'm a worried momma lol & a first timer & also what does Still Born mean? I heard that happens if you have that Listeria…..
Avatar f tn There is a recall of bagged lettuce due to listeria that is very dangerous for pregnant females. Just thought I would share since I found out "After" I ate the lettuce :(. Check with your local store to see if it is included in the recall.
Avatar f tn I get really nervous about the possibility about Listeria, I ate a sandwich today and made sure it was steaming before I ate it.... Any suggestions??
10441812 tn?1424487094 Ok. I ate cold cuts with my first two pregnancies, babies are healthy. This is my third pregnancy & I've never heard of "Listeria." Now I'm like freaking out on what I should do?
Avatar f tn when i cook meat, touch it before preparing and then touch something else eg doorknob... the listeria survives there or what? and another thing, can listeria survive in meat from fridge /more than few days?? thank you! i cook meat often and am afraid.. because of my baby-...
7702223 tn?1394319054 You're more likely to get listeria from produce than deli meats. I've eaten it, my mom ate it with both me and my brother and we're fine. It's just that the risk of contracting it is so bad for a unborn child that's why doctors say don't eat it. I worry too much when I eat it so I just stay away. It's only 40 weeks of not having it so might as well just not stress yourself by eating it and just not way it and always wash all produce very well.
Avatar f tn Hey mommies-to-be. Just wanted to let those of us in the U.S. know that the CDC announced there's an outbreak of listeria possibly associated with prepackaged, commercially produced caramel apples. 28 people have come down with it, and 9 of those occurred in pregnant women. Wanted to let you all know since listeria is especially bad for pregnant women and allow you all to follow the story.
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar f tn I am probably just worrying too much but I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and early in my pregnancy I developed flu like symptoms similar to Listeria. I also ate hotdogs and lunch meat often at this time. I just read that if you have had listeria while pregnant that the baby can contract it during birth and die within a 1-2 weeks. I am worried that I may have had it and now my baby is going to be effected. What should I do?
Avatar n tn From what I understand, Listeria is a bacteria that is so common that most healthy adults have had listeriosis at some time in their life...a healthy adult immune system can take it BUT a baby can't. Listeria is more common in deli meats, soft cheeses, soft serve ice cream, unpasturized milk products...Tuna is not usually a known culprit as long as it is prepared and eaten or refrigerated immediately...if left at room temp, it could start to grow bacteria etc.
Avatar f tn my doctor is said to me to give pcr-rt (quantitative) test? what is pcr? I am very worried.
Avatar m tn i have got an elisa test done for hiv 3 years after exposure. my test confirmed that i was negative. do i need to get retested or can i be assured that i am hiv negative. and yeah thanks for answering my previous questions, it helped me a great deal. you all are doing a great job , thumbs up....
Avatar m tn There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.
Avatar f tn how accurate is a negative elisa test 3 weeks post risky exposure for a woman (unprotected sex) with a hiv positive man? my doctor says its 100% accurate, is this true....
Avatar m tn ve 30.50.60.70.80.86.92.115 elisa test. it necessary to obtain the test to be negative anymore, all the days of 6 months?
Avatar f tn My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !
Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
