It could be giardiasis.
A stool examination is helpful in diagnosing it in about 50% of the cases.
There are kits available ( Stool ELISA & DFA) to diagnose giardiasis which are more than 90% sensitive in diagnosing it.

Well, Giardia can cause malabsorption of food which causes you to lose weight and it can cause vitamin B12 deficiency. If the parasite it gone then you should start absorbing food correctly now. You may have only had that one parasite. I was just thinking if they hadn't tested you for other parasites if you get a follow up test it wouldn't hurt to check for other parasites. Also, if they didn't test your iron and ferritin it would be good.
Help. I've had chronic giardiasis for years. It was just diagnosed a year ago. I have lost 58 pounds. Mostly just constipation and weight loss. Took tinadazole 2 times. Stool keeps coming up positive Can't take flagyl the last time I took tinadazole it seems like it got worse. What can I do. Will my body get rid of it on its own. I was retested 4 weeks after the last dose it still showed positive was that too early to retest?
Ive seen 100s of posts about this , the following sulfur burp symptoms along with the oily yellow frothy diarrhea , abdominal pain , pain in the pit of the stomach , foul breathe and belching , bloating , lots of gas and general discomfort , I was wondering if anyone has been tested for Giardiasis or chronic giardiasis , Ive been searching for months for answers and this one seems to have all the symptoms of this massive freight train .
My sister and I went to Namibia in May 2008 and I was diagnosed with giardiasis after severe diarrhoea. It was treated and cleared up. My sister has been ill since then with symptoms which do fit exactly with a giardia infection . Her stool samples have come back negative for giardiasis but she has lost over 30 pounds in weight, has green mucus stool, has abdominal pain and nausea and vomiting and when she eats, nothing is digested. It comes through in her stool.
If you have this you need treatment immediately! Please take the simple free test as soon as possible. If you really had it, it should not have gone away on it's own. I am surprised Public Health did not send out a social worker to you. Here in Champaign, Illinois, if giardia lamblia is discovered everyone in the household must be tested by law. Since the disease is connected to water supply - something like a bad well would have to be quarentined.
A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done.

These symptoms come and go. I went to the Gastroenterologist, she did stool test, blood test and all were normal. I also have history of abnormal paps (ASCUS), HPV negative and colposcopy results were normal.
Also, I had two UTIs in the last 2 months. On the first time, I went to the doctor, did an quick exam, which showed an infection and I took Bactrim for 5 days.
chronic giardiasis for 2 years with all symptoms,esp. rectal irritation and diahrrea,cysts seen in stool-2/3 times,other bacterial infections like citrobacter,etc noted with fever twice,treated with antiprotozoals-tinidazole/cefixime/satrogyl etc. and antibiotics 2/3 times for 10/15 days.Vitamin B12 deficiency resulting in nervous twiches and chills noted.Symptoms still continue what to do??although improved and lessened with time.all tests normal,ct-abdomen,esr,haemogram,etc normal.
my doctor is said to me to give pcr-rt (quantitative) test? what is pcr? I am very worried.
There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.
My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !

About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though.
I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.
Hi i Just wanted to know how accurate is ELISA third generation tests is,
my last sex was at 04/11/2010 i did the first test on 22/1/2011 the result wasELISA : HIV1&HIV2 NEGATIVE (0.15) i started to get worried of the number so i did a second test on 15/2/2011 just to make sure that i completed 3 monthes and the rsult came ELISA : HIV1&HIV2 NEGATIVE (0.33) i freeked out why that number is keeping rising !!
