Avatar n tn Well, Giardia can cause malabsorption of food which causes you to lose weight and it can cause vitamin B12 deficiency. If the parasite it gone then you should start absorbing food correctly now. You may have only had that one parasite. I was just thinking if they hadn't tested you for other parasites if you get a follow up test it wouldn't hurt to check for other parasites. Also, if they didn't test your iron and ferritin it would be good.
Avatar n tn Help. I've had chronic giardiasis for years. It was just diagnosed a year ago. I have lost 58 pounds. Mostly just constipation and weight loss. Took tinadazole 2 times. Stool keeps coming up positive Can't take flagyl the last time I took tinadazole it seems like it got worse. What can I do. Will my body get rid of it on its own. I was retested 4 weeks after the last dose it still showed positive was that too early to retest?
Avatar m tn Ive seen 100s of posts about this , the following sulfur burp symptoms along with the oily yellow frothy diarrhea , abdominal pain , pain in the pit of the stomach , foul breathe and belching , bloating , lots of gas and general discomfort , I was wondering if anyone has been tested for Giardiasis or chronic giardiasis , Ive been searching for months for answers and this one seems to have all the symptoms of this massive freight train .
Avatar n tn My sister has been ill since then with symptoms which do fit exactly with a giardia infection . Her stool samples have come back negative for giardiasis but she has lost over 30 pounds in weight, has green mucus stool, has abdominal pain and nausea and vomiting and when she eats, nothing is digested. It comes through in her stool. She has had an endoscopy, blood tests, urine tests and stool tests. Nothing is showing up as the cause of her illness.
1034192 tn?1445509784 Hi, Has she been tested for giardiasis? I have an immune disease and this is something people with my condition tend to have trouble with. It's an infection caused by the giardia lamblia parasite that causes vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, gas, and stomach cramps. Most infections only last 2-4 weeks BUT according to MedicineNet website: "In many patients who are not treated, however, infection can last for several months to years with continuing symptoms.
Avatar f tn Giardiasis is a common disorder worldwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, giardiasis is the most widespread intestinal parasitic infection in the United States. 6. Stress Part of your body’s response to stress and anxiety may be to speed up the digestive process. This limits the volume of nutrients your body can absorb and may cause diarrhea and yellow stool. 7. Diet Your stool can be yellow because of your diet.
Avatar n tn Apx 22 years ago I was diagnosed with a giardia parasite and was not treated since i was 5 onths pregnant. Symptoms went away. But for the past few months I have been having moderate pain in my lower left side and assumed it was an ovaian cyst (had many) had an ultra sound and was told I did have one but it was very small, not enough to cause the pain I am having. My question is, could I have an intestinal infection or a problem with the untreated giardia from years past.
Avatar n tn Are these results conclusive for being negative for HIV or do I need to get another ELISA again on 90 days post? The odds I've figured for myself are about 1/20,000,000,000 which makes me feel pretty good (using 3% incidence which is probably very high in the first place). I've also read that the difference between 82 and 90 days is irrelevant. However, it's just one of those things where a very slight possibility still seems uncomfortable.
Avatar f tn A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar n tn IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done. Also the simplest could be that you are pregnant. So take a pregnancy test and see. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn i already pass the 3 month period to get tested for HIV my question is , "HIV AG\AB test" after the three months it will be searching for the AB as well as it search for the AG if it found it, so what is the method used to search for the AB in the (HIV AG\AB) test , 2- is is better than the method in Elisa AB test after 3 months , 3- if i did h="hiv AG\AB" test after three months " is it conclusive as if i did HIV Elisa AB test" thanks in advance
Avatar f tn No matte what generation for test method , elisa generation 2 ? 3 or 4 ? Someone said 3 month is conclusive but some said 6 month & 12 month . Which is the correct timetable for conclusive test result ? Last test was 177 days by elisa negative but don't know what generation , was this result conclusive ?
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar m tn A negative Western blot test means the ELISA test was a false positive test. The Western blot test can also be unclear, in which case more testing is done. Negative tests do not rule out HIV infection. There is a period of time (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies that can be measured. This period is 3 months from exposure. However, negative WB at 45 days is certainly very encouraging.
Avatar f tn My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !
Avatar f tn IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done.If you have missed periods, it could be pregnancy. PCOD too should be looked into. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into.
Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
Avatar m tn with refer to no.1. it seems HIV antigen (for ELISA test) could withstand for long period after taken out from human body? In addition, may I know what should do and dont's before blood sampling for ELISA test for HIV? e.g. fasting, take medicine, smoking, sufficient sleep, no fever etc....

Avatar f tn how accurate is a negative elisa test 3 weeks post risky exposure for a woman (unprotected sex) with a hiv positive man? my doctor says its 100% accurate, is this true....
Avatar f tn it happened that i am familiar with the ELISA procedure... for me it takes up to 6 hours at best... here it was less than 3..... yep, negative of course. ositive would take a western blot which as i know may take days...
