PCR DNA test is not a standalone test and its not used for detection of HIV. It has high rate of false positives.

Symptoms do not mean anything when it comes to HIV. Most of the symptoms that people post here could happen because of many different reasons.
These symptoms come and go. I went to the Gastroenterologist, she did stool test, blood test and all were normal. I also have history of abnormal paps (ASCUS), HPV negative and colposcopy results were normal.
Also, I had two UTIs in the last 2 months. On the first time, I went to the doctor, did an quick exam, which showed an infection and I took Bactrim for 5 days.
I went back to my GI doctor and he scheduled me for an upper endoscopy and another giardia antigen stool test. The stool test came back negative. However during the upper endo, my doctor took a biopsy of my stomach and duodenum. He also saw a lot of inflammation of the duodenum. The biopsy of the tissue from my duodenum did show giardia under the microscope. I found this out today (01/05/09).
Apx 22 years ago I was diagnosed with a giardia parasite and was not treated since i was 5 onths pregnant. Symptoms went away. But for the past few months I have been having moderate pain in my lower left side and assumed it was an ovaian cyst (had many) had an ultra sound and was told I did have one but it was very small, not enough to cause the pain I am having.
My question is, could I have an intestinal infection or a problem with the untreated giardia from years past.
Hi All. I have been diagnosed with suspected Giardia (awaiting stool test results). I have been on Metronidazole for three days with minimal improvement. The D has stopped but still very nauseous and terrible burning/heartburn. Should I be feeling more of an improvement by now? Or could this be a side effect from the antibiotic? Also heartburn/burning in the stomach a symptom of Giardia? TIA.
I'd go ahead and do the fecal test if it were me. *I* had giardia along with my husband and at the time 1 year old son. Nightmare. Imagine changing diapers for my son with a parasite! We got it at a farm party along with about 70 other people who all also ate that dang fruit salad washed in tainted water. My husband and son had the fecal testing done. I didn't. I also did not take medicine for it and my husband and son did.
Stool can be loose and cause the dog to continue to strain after elimination or it can be mixed with large amounts of mucus and/or blood. The test for this condition must look for the toxin, NOT just the bacteria. The test for the toxin requires a larger sample than is needed for a routine stool check, is expensive to have done and is often sent out to a speciality lab BUT if it is positive you have the advantage of knowing what you are treating.

A month ago she was sick with giardia and treated with two weeks of flagyl. She recovered fine and everything is " normal " now. At her visit yesterday her urine dip stick showed high protein. The doctor took a blood sample and called me today to say that everything in the blood test was normal except it showed low protein. Next week she is to be spayed. The vet said at the time of the operation they will get a urinalysis right from the bladder and also a sonogram of her kidneys.
If the stool has a specific barnyard smell, then it can be Clostridium difficile infection. Green stool is also in salmonella or giardia. Green diarrhea can be from any reason, where gut motility is increased, and bile doesn't have time to be re-absorbed in the intestine.
So, if you think, it's not from food or medicines, you'll need a stool culture test.
I there is no other symptoms just color change then it could be caused by certain foods, different formulas of cow milks,and post nasal drip.If there are more symptoms it could be food poisoning ,giardia, gastritis or different inflammatory bowel disease.
I am so sorry about your dog. I do not use the giardia vaccine in my practice. The giardia vaccine is not even meant to prevent the giardiasis but is administered as an adjunct to treatment of the disease. Giardia is ubiquitous in the environment, is found in normal animals, and usually does not cause any problems, because normal flora in the dog can hold the disease in check.
my doctor is said to me to give pcr-rt (quantitative) test? what is pcr? I am very worried.
There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.
My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !

About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though.
I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.
