1028297 tn?1252089571 Go back to ER if you keep having these symptoms ask for a stool test for ova parasites bacteria like samonella, e coli etc and c diff. You may have a bug or food poisoning . Its hard to say without tests done. Also make an appt with your doc so they can look for other causes if this persists. Do not take immodium until they rule out c diff and other things. You dont want to slow down your system and keep the toxins in or you will get worse.

354667 tn?1299137472 Can your doctor CONFIRM, that you have Giardia? There is a stool test for Giardia, did you have that test? I mean, you have to solve this, before thinking about other diagnoses. I hope you have spoken with a doctor about mebendazole (?). Do not ever try to cure yourself with antibiotics by your own.
Avatar m tn I went back to my GI doctor and he scheduled me for an upper endoscopy and another giardia antigen stool test. The stool test came back negative. However during the upper endo, my doctor took a biopsy of my stomach and duodenum. He also saw a lot of inflammation of the duodenum. The biopsy of the tissue from my duodenum did show giardia under the microscope. I found this out today (01/05/09).
Avatar f tn These symptoms come and go. I went to the Gastroenterologist, she did stool test, blood test and all were normal. I also have history of abnormal paps (ASCUS), HPV negative and colposcopy results were normal. Also, I had two UTIs in the last 2 months. On the first time, I went to the doctor, did an quick exam, which showed an infection and I took Bactrim for 5 days.
Avatar n tn Either your doctor or Public Health (free) can check you for giardia lamblia. It is done with a feces sample. If you had it while pregnant it should have been treated even though you were pregnant. When gone untreated it's side effects can be permenant and very damaging. I lost all ability to eat food and suffer from severe abdominal pain. If you have this you need treatment immediately! Please take the simple free test as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn They tested him for Coccidea (which he had when at the breeder) And also for Giardia. He had Giardia. They put him on antibiotics and he has felt much better almost immediately. He hasn't had a poop accident since we started the meds. She said he was bordering on malnourished - with his build (bulldog) it was hard to see how skinny he was. We thought he was just a slighter build than our other bullie.
Avatar m tn Flagyl will cause your gut to feel awful for some time and with side effects of the drug. I would do a PCR stool test which is much more accurate than your typical stool test because it uses DNA to detect parasite.
Avatar f tn Hi All. I have been diagnosed with suspected Giardia (awaiting stool test results). I have been on Metronidazole for three days with minimal improvement. The D has stopped but still very nauseous and terrible burning/heartburn. Should I be feeling more of an improvement by now? Or could this be a side effect from the antibiotic? Also heartburn/burning in the stomach a symptom of Giardia? TIA.
Avatar f tn Stool can be loose and cause the dog to continue to strain after elimination or it can be mixed with large amounts of mucus and/or blood. The test for this condition must look for the toxin, NOT just the bacteria. The test for the toxin requires a larger sample than is needed for a routine stool check, is expensive to have done and is often sent out to a speciality lab BUT if it is positive you have the advantage of knowing what you are treating.
Avatar n tn Are these results conclusive for being negative for HIV or do I need to get another ELISA again on 90 days post? The odds I've figured for myself are about 1/20,000,000,000 which makes me feel pretty good (using 3% incidence which is probably very high in the first place). I've also read that the difference between 82 and 90 days is irrelevant. However, it's just one of those things where a very slight possibility still seems uncomfortable.
Avatar m tn NOW 10 DAYS POST SYMPTOMS ARE BACK AGAIN HAD STOOL TEST DONE FOR GIARDIA AND CHRYPTO BUT IT WAS ONLY THE SINGLE TEST.AFTER RESEARCHING I FIND MY DR SHOULD HAVE ORDERED A 3 DAY STOOL SAMPLE FOR GIARDIA AS IT IS HARD TO DIAGNOSE,MY BASIC QUESTION IS 2 YRS AGO COULD THEY HAVE MISTAKEN A SUPPOSED DIVERTICULI IN MY SMALL INTESTINE WHEN IT REALLY WAS A GIARDIAL CYST THAT KEEPS COMING BACK.
Avatar f tn As it is so recent that your dog has been treated for giardia, it could possibly be that some of the breakdown of the cysts are being released through the kidneys. It would certainly be worth raising this with your vet, who will know far more about it than I do. It strikes me it could be too early to conduct the spaying of your dog, particularly after being treated for giardia and while she has this high protein count in her urine.
Avatar m tn i already pass the 3 month period to get tested for HIV my question is , "HIV AG\AB test" after the three months it will be searching for the AB as well as it search for the AG if it found it, so what is the method used to search for the AB in the (HIV AG\AB) test , 2- is is better than the method in Elisa AB test after 3 months , 3- if i did h="hiv AG\AB" test after three months " is it conclusive as if i did HIV Elisa AB test" thanks in advance
Avatar f tn No matte what generation for test method , elisa generation 2 ? 3 or 4 ? Someone said 3 month is conclusive but some said 6 month & 12 month . Which is the correct timetable for conclusive test result ? Last test was 177 days by elisa negative but don't know what generation , was this result conclusive ?
Avatar m tn So you also need Trichomonas, and ureaplasma, Mycoplasma genitalium and parasistes Giardia, get a stool test for ova and parasites. Also, a urine culture to test for bacteria in the urinary tract a stool culture for pathogenic bacteria in the stool or feces. Yes get a complete blood count. Any doctor or laboratory can do most of these things except the ureaplasma and mycoplasma is a PCR test and you would have to find out what lab in your area does this and the doctor can send it there.
Avatar n tn Check for giardia first. Does it float? I know, that's a gross question, but if it is green and it floats, it's probably giardia. If you have a pet, make sure it is checked also because giardia can be passed back and forth. Check with a doctor.
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar m tn A negative Western blot test means the ELISA test was a false positive test. The Western blot test can also be unclear, in which case more testing is done. Negative tests do not rule out HIV infection. There is a period of time (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies that can be measured. This period is 3 months from exposure. However, negative WB at 45 days is certainly very encouraging.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry about your dog. I do not use the giardia vaccine in my practice. The giardia vaccine is not even meant to prevent the giardiasis but is administered as an adjunct to treatment of the disease. Giardia is ubiquitous in the environment, is found in normal animals, and usually does not cause any problems, because normal flora in the dog can hold the disease in check.
