Avatar n tn I am seeing the DR on Monday should I ask for a PCR test to balance off the ELISA just in cass, or test for CD4 count just to rule out non cad B HIV Virus. If I have HIV will taking Haart calm the symptoms of Guttate Psoriasis and PSA or will my Immune system be so overworked that I will arthritic complications for life.
Avatar n tn They will only do short courses of antibiotics and most people with more chronic lyme need longer treatment. The standard ELISA test docs do has a 50% false negative rate. I was negative in March but then went to an LLMD (Lyme Literate MD) and got positive with a better test. Check out truthaboutlymedisease.com or ilads.org and look at symptoms and treatments. also lymenet.org I strongly suggest you get checked by an LLMD.
Avatar n tn My second PSA in June was 10.7. Is it normal for PSA to go down after the biospy? If in another 3 months my PSA is still going down, would that be an indication that my cancer is being fought successfully? I am taking a alternative food suplament that I have been taking from March.
Avatar m tn Since I am a black male and since my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year at 65, the doctor asked me to take a PSA test as well as a free PSA test on Aug 30 (PSA 8.880 ng/ml and free PSA 1.37 ng/ml). He also put me on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. The urination issue was resolved thereafter and there was nothing odd detected during the the DRE. Follow up tests (free psa and psa) were taken on Oct. 25. (PSA 7.460ng/mL and FPSA of .55 ng/mL).
129311 tn?1266346822 sorry to say, but yes, that is a rise that's cause for alert. Maybe it's benign, BPH, they call it, hummm, that fast of a rise I'm betting it is BPH....but I'm guessing here. They'll probably give him Cipro to see if that works, but Bactrim is better, if he has an older doctor they'll give him Bactrim, it's a sulfur drug and it's great, but it's been around forever, new docs think all the old stuff doesn't work ~ ya know what I mean?
Avatar m tn In August, my PSA (Total) and PSA (Free) were 0.9 and 0.1 respectively - resulting % Free PSA as 11%. In January, my PSA (Total) and PSA (Free) were 0.6 and 0.1 respectively, resulting % Free PSA as 17%. I believe the Total PSAs are quite in the healthy range, but in both occasions, the % Free PSA came out to be low (the normal is > 25%). Is there anything to be worried about?
Avatar n tn Hi, Dr, It is great appreciated for your response. I was read about PSA test fPSA and cPSA. My friend had PSA test for past few years since age of 49, PSA range 1.3-1.4. This year, PSA jump to 9.6, then repeat after 5 week, PSA come back 3.8, at the same time did free PSA, but fPSA is very low, and up %fPSA/PSA about 11%, and this may need biopsy. But as I mention, PSA shows so much difference in such a short time. What is his means and the if PSA and fPSA really correct or accurate?
Avatar n tn and I inquired about the effect of heavy exercise and sexual activity 24 hrs prior to the last PSA we decided to do another PSA test that day. Got reults back and it was 5.3 instaed of the 6.3 before. I've read where in cancer cases this number should never go down and a "bouncing" number is more likely age and activity related. Have another consult with the doctor in 2 weeks.

Avatar n tn I went online and found that PSA normal levels for men in 60-70 year group is 0 to 4.5 range, although not all doctors agree. My doctor says normal range is 0 to 4.0 and that I should be concerned even though the rectal exam revealed no increase in the size of prostate. Should I be concerned? I want to see a urologist but I don't want to do anything further such as biopsies. Is this the right way to go with this problem? I don't want to deal with this whole thing for another 2 years.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your comment. I got my new test results. PSA is 0.43. The previous value of 0.99 may have been a bit high temporarily due to some reason.

Avatar m tn My last annual physical producd a total PSA result of 3.5. Previous annuals exam for total PSA test were 1.4, 1.8, 2.3 respectively. DRE's have all been normal. My primary care physican referred me to a Urologist who suggested and performed a biopsy. Results were negative. At a 6 month follow-up with the Urologist, my PSA was 6.2. I was put on antibiotics for two weeks and repeated the PSA after 1 month. Awaiting the results.
Avatar n tn My doctor makes me abstain from sex for a week before testing - you probably know sex raises your PSA for a couple of days afterward. That high-grade PIN is definitely associated with PC at that 35%-rate your doctor mentioned - and still that's a minority of cases, and your free PSA is comforting, but the longer it's been since your biopsy the greater the chance that cancer has developed. This is a good site for all PC matters: http://www.prostate-cancer.
Avatar n tn What is the average lifespan, prognosis for systemic amyloidosis??
Avatar n tn 60 plus year old - if i had sex or masterbation before the psa tsst can that effect the psa number in the blood test? let's assume either having sex or masturbation for a daily period of a week before the test. seeking advise.
Avatar n tn Thanks Dr Rowena, I continued Microbid for another 10 days, had my PSA and urine test done on 14 August .Test reults for urine are OK and PSA level came down to 1.93 .As per my doctor's conclusion ,this is good and I do not have to worry any thing .He recommended to see him if any pain,UTI,blood in urine in future. Please advise if I should still go for rectal ultrasound.how much safe PSA recommended in my case.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your question. As I have said before on this forum, it is often important to look at blood test, imaging, DRE, and other risk factors in a comprehensive way in order to determine an adequate clinical plan. PSA levels can change with age, infections (prostatitis), following DRE (digital rectal exam), BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia), and proliferation of prostate cancer. It sounds like you have had many PSA exams performed at several different clinics.
Avatar n tn If the DRE is normal but the PSA is moderately elevated, a free PSA test may be done to look at the ratio of free to total PSA. This can help to distinguish between prostate cancer and other non-cancer causes of elevated PSA. Since the total PSA test can be elevated temporarily for a variety of reasons, another PSA a few weeks after the first to determine if the PSA is still elevated. However, the decision to perform a prostate biopsy is at the discretion of the urologist.
Avatar m tn i8 had a psa test iit was 2.7 under 4 but my free psa is only 11% they saty thats low no DRE was done the doctor said i might have a UT infection and said i shopuld see a urologist.
Avatar n tn 3-1.4 level. A most recant one, after 18 month of the last test, PSA somehow shot in higher lever , a couple of them were consider took right after DRE or other exam may course the elevated PSA. Later repeat in a month showed PSA range 4 - 2.5 (a few days after DRE or test involved in a message of prostate). Dr consider infection, so he took a course of antibiotics. After that, the first repeat test show PSA is 1.8. What do you think about this case? IS infection?
