Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test for mycoplasma

Avatar f tn My question is do you think it is possible this is mycoplasma and not chronic lyme? And if so exactly what test should I ask my doctor for to test for mycoplasma? My IgM Lyme test through Igenex showed 30+, 39, 41 IND. Thank you for your time and expertise.
Avatar m tn You say: "She said that based on the test results from all the testing they did she could not say for sure that it is Lyme." It may be that she is not using IGeneX PCR test, which is more reliable than the older Western blot and ELISA tests. Some docs seem to be scared of using the IGeneX test, because the Lyme-deniers are particular cranky toward IGeneX. Politics. You also say: "Thus my confusion when I see these things that point that way.
Avatar m tn And it is impossible to have HIV with a negative ELISA antibody test more than 6-8 weeks after exposure (rarely it may take almost 3 months) -- so your negative tests prove you didn't catch HIV. Mycoplasma is not abnormal; we all have it, and it does not indicate increased risk for HIV. For sure you do not have HIV and should stop worrying about it. But if you continue sex with men of unknown status, have an HIV test once a year or so.
Avatar f tn Only get the igenex test done for lyme as the elisa and western blot will miss 35% of the time. Waste little time. The longer it is in you, the worse you will get and harder it is to treat.
Avatar m tn I was wondering why there shouldn't be only one hiv antibody test that covers at least all the known HIV and all it's subtypes. it makes me crazy when the people go for hiv test and they have absolutely no f* idea there are so many types of hiv like hiv1 hiv 2 hive group o hiv group N , this is insane. i don't understand why the test that don't cover everything even get the permission to come to the market. producers just want to make money no matter what.
Avatar f tn actually i have not done my CMV test since when i go for a check up, the doctor said you do the test for all HIV/HBV/HCV and HSV, along with Bacterial STDs. since i didnt have any symptoms of Ulcers, Discharges etc, i have done all these virus antibody tests by Tridot 3rd Generation adn ELISA which has given Negative results. And i have tested for Treponema by TPHA which was also negative.
Avatar m tn I also finished my 2 week couse of Clarithomycin and took a test of cure by PCR for mycoplasma after a gap of 1 week after completing the antibiotics. Thankfully the results came back negative for both mycoplasma hominis and genitalium (separate tests were performed). Is there any chance that the infection was just supressed due to medication and I need to repeat a test of cure again later?
Avatar m tn Dear sir/Madam, I had an intercourse with my wife two weeks ago and after 5 days of it, she started having coloured odourful vaginal discharge which lasted for a few days, this concerned me and i went for a complete blood and urine test to make sure everything was ok with me, all my results on HIV and other STD's came back negative except that of urine culture which showed growth in mycoplasma genitallium, Doctors here told me that its a very dangerous STD and they put me on Ciprofloxacin 5
Avatar n tn She gave me an Elisa HIV fulll STD panel Hep ABC, Epstein Barr test and a prescription for Atripla didnt fill til after the test. All tests came up negative, Took Atripla for 5 days and when neg test I stopped. I took a DNA PCR HIV test at time, negative but after 5 days of Atripla. My Epstein Barr was active high so possible. But not new or acute infection. Symptoms now have continued for a month, very severe, very painful. Going to take my 2 month Elisa and DNA test next week 7/17.
Avatar m tn With your S/S I would check additionally for Chlamydia p. or Chlamydia t. or Mycoplasma species (M. pneumoniae, M. fermentans, M. genitalium, M. hominis are the most commonly found Mycoplasmas associated with sexual transmission). Such infections generally progress slowly and eventually involve many tissues and organ systems yielding multiple, systemic S/S. There are, of course, other possibilities as well.
Avatar n tn the Lyme ELISA test is only 45 - 55% accurate. Make sure it is a Lyme western blot test.
Avatar f tn Research research research. Only get the igenex test done for lyme as the elisa and western blot will miss 35% of the time. Waste little time. The longer it is in you, the worse you will get and harder it is to treat. This has become an epidemic. So many people with the same symptoms, some thinking they have HIV, others thinking they have autoimmune disorders or an std. Ofcourse all those tests come back negative.
1063463 tn?1302274619 The ELISA for Lyme Borrelia is not very accurate. I suggest that you consider a Lyme Western blot such as done by Igenex. Also, you should consider other chronic infections, such as Mycoplasma species, Chlamydia pn., etc.
Avatar m tn VDRL negative HBsAG negative ANTI-HVC (hep c) negative HIV Ag p24/HIV Ab type 1+2 negative Aerobea sperm nothing detected Anaerobea sperm nothing Mycoplasma sperm negative Ureoplasma sperm POSITIVE (urealiticum) Chlamydia trachomatis sperm negative (elisa method) As i read on the internet about urine test they do aerobea and anaerobea for std sti (gonorrhea etc).so they did the same thing for the sperm as far as i can understand.
Avatar m tn Dr, Just to add to my previous post I was never tested for Mycoplasma Genitalium as the clinics told me there is no standard test for it in standard sti clinics. Does this alter your opinion from that of your previous post? When you say it responds to Zithromax, is 1g single dose sufficient in your experience, as you seen from my posts my NSU was recurring? Thank you again for your time, I would appreciate a reply to my last posts & this will be the end to my queries.
Avatar m tn Are you certain that the test was for mycoplasma genitalium and not mycoplasma hominis? In the US, it is almost impossible to find a test for mycoplasma genitalium. The comments above from shaken assume that you are talking about m. genitalium. M. hominis is generally considered to be less consequential for you or your girlfriends health (although some doctors will treat it with antibiotics). If you are sure that it is m.
Avatar m tn i only tested for monospot and ebv iga as it is only available in the clinic. the results came back negative for monospot test and 117 for ebv iga test which is in the equivocal range. I had a flu four weeks with a fever ago and went away. this is the 7th week since possible exposure since.
Avatar m tn So you also need Trichomonas, and ureaplasma, Mycoplasma genitalium and parasistes Giardia, get a stool test for ova and parasites. Also, a urine culture to test for bacteria in the urinary tract a stool culture for pathogenic bacteria in the stool or feces. Yes get a complete blood count. Any doctor or laboratory can do most of these things except the ureaplasma and mycoplasma is a PCR test and you would have to find out what lab in your area does this and the doctor can send it there.
Avatar n tn Another point to consider is that often atypical lupus, Sjorgrens and RA are linked by common chronic infections. For example, our research has found that chronic infections like Mycoplasma species, found in about 45% of RA, 50% of lupus and a majority of Sjogrens, can cause all of the signs/symptoms that you list and many more. These chronic infections can be treated (go to Treatment Considerations, www.immed.org) successfully. Prof.
