Elisa test for antibodies

Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test for antibodies

elisa-test

Avatar f tn So if you had an elisa Hiv test,it would be looking for antibodies produced by the immune system for Hiv,same would apply to RA,the elisa would be searching for those antibodies that would be produced if someone had RA.From reading It was established that each Elisa is specific to what antibodies it is looking for, just the name Elisa is the same, that's all.
Avatar f tn That is the test for antibodies to the hep c virus he will test positive for antibodies for the rest of his life. Anti-bodies or not the virus anti-bodies are made by your body when it tried to fight the virus. Just like if you had the measles or wherever vaccinated for the measles you have anti-bodies for the measles virus. The test to determine if he is infected with hepatitis C again would be the HCV RNA by PCR test.
Avatar m tn i have read somewhere that some persons never develop any antibodies in hiv elisa test even after window period.is it true?
Avatar n tn so wat u r saying is either way for the DUO test it will test for p24 antigen and antibodies if they were any CORRECT?
Avatar f tn The pcr test, better known as the viral load test, looks for actual virus, not just the antibodies. You may have been exposed and you may have cleared the virus without treatment; you may have a false positive, or you be infected. Don't worry ahead of time and actually with the new treatments, there is a cure for almost everyone. My best to you.
Avatar m tn 90 days is the usual safety window period for HIV antibodies test (which checks ONLY for antibodies and NOT for P24 antigen). This is the main difference between 3rd generation ELISA tests (also rapid HIV tests such as INSTI which check for antibodies only) and DUO tests, as DUO HIV tests check for both antibodies and P24 antigen. P24 antigen is usually detectable by 28 days, the time when antibodies may still be not detectable.
Avatar m tn i already pass the 3 month period to get tested for HIV my question is , "HIV AG\AB test" after the three months it will be searching for the AB as well as it search for the AG if it found it, so what is the method used to search for the AB in the (HIV AG\AB) test , 2- is is better than the method in Elisa AB test after 3 months , 3- if i did h="hiv AG\AB" test after three months " is it conclusive as if i did HIV Elisa AB test" thanks in advance
Avatar m tn A negative Western blot test means the ELISA test was a false positive test. The Western blot test can also be unclear, in which case more testing is done. Negative tests do not rule out HIV infection. There is a period of time (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies that can be measured. This period is 3 months from exposure. However, negative WB at 45 days is certainly very encouraging.
Avatar m tn Yes an ELISA test will detect antibodies cause by multiple strains.
Avatar m tn Y u r nt replyin? plz reply and i will gain my peace of mind....
Avatar f tn I had my last encounter arouund 7months ago, i guess i'm well over with the window period...i'm confused about which test to go for ders a HIV 1 & 2 ANTIBODIES TEST COMBO WITH P24 ANITGENS TEST AND a test which includes HIV 1& 2 WITH WESTERN BLOT. .........i guess i first one is like a normal ELISA test ...while the 2nd one is a confirmatory test....plz. recommend which test shoiuld i go for??
Avatar m tn I consulted a doctor he said the result is negative however this test is for Antibodies, some antibodies has been detected in my blood which is generated to fight HIV virus. I am married I never had sex anyone other than my husband, never shared needle nor I am drug user. My husbands test result is negative too. How accurate is Elisa test? does food influence the test results? Should I go for WB test?
Avatar m tn with refer to no.1. it seems HIV antigen (for ELISA test) could withstand for long period after taken out from human body? In addition, may I know what should do and dont's before blood sampling for ELISA test for HIV? e.g. fasting, take medicine, smoking, sufficient sleep, no fever etc....
Avatar m tn 1 percent of the population is a low incidence of hiv, every elisa test is good at 3 months, that you have been told already, with each generation of test they get to detect a little bit earlier, elisa has been used to detect many viruses other than hiv, its an extremely reliable way to test for a virus, to culture for the virus takes to long. i doubt if they still use first generation test unless its home access test, also rapid test like oraquick are equilivant to 2 nd gen testing.
Avatar n tn Fourth generation ELISA for HIV1/HIV2 1) 4th generation ELISA is a DUO TEST (Antibody and Antigen Sandwich Test) .It actually looks for the P24 (protein) Antigen and Antibodies simultaneously. 2) P24 Antigen is almost always present in the body after acquiring the virus till the 4th week after infection and then it disappears . 3)Once the P24 antigen disappears, antibodies starts to show up.
Avatar n tn Helo, all. I have posted here before. I hope someone will answer my question without making me feel like an idiot. I had, what is called, a low risk possible exposure in July - oral sex with a woman. I have tested negative elisa at 12 1/2 weeks. At six weeks, I had a PCR DNA and a PCR RNA both undetectable and elisa negative. Also, at 9 weeks, I had an elisa negative and a PCR RNA negative.
Avatar m tn MEIA stands for Microplate Enzymatic Immunoassay. This is a synonym for ELISA, which is a better known name for the test. MEIA measures the presence of antibodies, which are produced by the immune system in response to HIV infection. Both the aforementioned tests are valid and in your case, you have taken them at a time frame which can certainly be considered definitive. You don't have HIV.
Avatar f tn I second this. An EIA or ELISA test is tremendously accurate.
Avatar m tn Borrelia Antibodies. Index results for total antibodies and IgM positives; also includes Western blot analysis and result interpretation. 2) Lyme Disease, Serum, Western Blot, $60 Includes: Borrelia burgdorferi Antibodies.Western blot analysis and interpretations for IgG- and for IgM-specific antibodies.
Avatar m tn A false positive occurs when a patient who is not infected with the target antibodies gives a positive result during the ELISA test. The next they should perform is an HCV PCR RNA. This test will actually provide a definitive diagnosis whether the HCV virus is present in the blood. About 20% of people who present positive for HCV antibodies will show negative for the virus because their immune system will have fought it off, thus they do not become chronic.
Avatar n tn They use the oraquick because for one you get results in 10 to 20 mins and they are reliable results plus they are FDA approved test the elisa test can take 2 to 5 days for the results why sit around with more worries when rapids are just as reliable with quick results Sorry Dr Hook if I am wrong about this
Avatar n tn is any other illness or sickness or infection can prevent my body to deliver detectable HIV antibodies, so the ELISA test came negative, my ELISA test for HELICOBACTER come out very high, the doctor said it is due to very longtime infection by HELICOBACTER, is HIV/ELISA test related to HELICOBACTER/ELISA test? are all people able to deliver detectable antibodies for HIV? and what is the max period that the body start delivering thoses antibodies?
Avatar m tn There are no tests reliable at 2.5 weeks and rapid tests are ELISA tests. All antibody tests are conclusive at 3 months post exposure.
