I recently had an appointment with my dermtaologist who gave the exact same answer regarding Elidel and Protopic, however I failed to garner any definitive information regarding how safe it is to continue using Hydrocortisone consistently. From what I have read it is very difficult to control itchiness/redness with those two drugs which is exactly what I am trying to do... Hydrocortisone is the only topical which gives me any relief.

I went to a doctor who first used an anti-fungal, then steroids (both topical and prednisone). Nothing worked, so I went to the derm. He put me on lidocane and protopic and said it is a nerve thing. The lidocane makes it hurt worse than anything and the protopic is not helping. I am also on a prescription, I believe called gabapentrin. Right now I can barely walk and it seems to have spread to a spot or two on my penis.

I was using elidel(1yr) and analpram(5yrs), pramosone(1yr) and lately nystatin(last one year) for the anal hemmoriods. I was using olux foam(4yrs), extina(1yr) for the scalp irregularities. I do lot of scratching on the anal area and the scalp, due to which these medications regularly mix with the blood and I used to have heavy bleeding due to the scratching. I know that these medicines have steroids. I used analpram from 1998 and that was for five years.

I have the same problem on my scrotum. The only thing that works is Vaseline and diet. Stay away from sugar, processed foods and foods that make your body acidic. My problem started over a year a go and has bothered me every day. Don't use steroids it only makes it worse. Elidel is dangerous and doesn't work. Protopic is also a possibility but is also a black box. The problem is a digestive disorder. If I drink orange juice it gets bad if I eat fruit and veggies it doesn't bother me.

I have tried elidel, protopic, tons of steroid creams, oitments, doxycycline, PUVA, epicream, prednisone and steroid injections. The only things that work are the injections and prednisone, but the immidiate side effects of prednisone are too much (face swelling ect...). Is there anything else I can do?!!?!?

The remission time is shorter than before. I am scared of using Protopic because of the cancer risk even though my dermatologist says there is no real cancer risk. I was given more info than I knew there was about vitiligo on day one by my dermatologist and then he prescribed topicals til one worked ( a steriod, elidel, then protopic) in addition to NARROW BAND UVB light treatments 2 to 3 times per week. I had spots all over my face, neck and legs to start with. It took two months for me to start seeing results and then in month three and four the spots started to get smaller after filling in with dots. The spots on my face, neck, under arms are gone.

However I did not go and get the prescription because I did some research on Elidel and found that it was related to some cases of cancer. I would really like to use it, or an alternative, but I am worried about the risk of cancer directly related to Elidel.
