Elidel skin cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Elidel skin cancer

elidel

Avatar n tn The cancer cases are related to people taking an oral version of the drug. Their are no cases of cancer related to the cream. Your body doesn't absorb the drug that easy. Still any drug is dangerous to take long term. I would take a look at how much how often and how old you are. Then just how bad does it get, I am currently having a problem with my scrotum skin. Nothing has worked but no one has been able to say exactly what it is. The skin just stings for minutes or hours then goes away.
Avatar m tn Recently I also found out that elidel should not be used for more than a month or so, because of the chances of skin cancer. I am using it for more than a year now. I might have used around 50 to 60 times so far. One more thing i forgot to tell you is that the olux foam which was given for the scalp, I sometimes used to use it on my anus. I had an unprotected sexual exposure in 2009 Jan and then I got tested for HIV 1/HIV 2 antibody test 3 times upto 1 year after the exposure.
Avatar m tn It does not cause thinning of the skin. But the other rare serious side effects include skin cancer, lymphoma, fevers, and infections, short of breath, facial swelling and blisters. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn My question here is that 1) I don’t know if I have skin cancer, because of the over use of elidel. Very recently I also found out that elidel should not be used for more than a month or so, because of the chances of skin cancer. I am using it for more than a year now. I might have used around 50 to 60 times so far. I always have had this anal problem and the scalp problem, from almost ten years now. I don’t know about the other medicines over usage, the doctor never told me.
Avatar n tn I read on the internet from multiple sources, that TCI's do not cause skin thinning or the side effects associated with steroid ointments, which is why it's usually used. However, one website I read stated that Elidel does not thin the skin "as much as" steroid creams do! So which is it for sure? Does it, or does it NOT thin the skin in any way?
Avatar n tn This was necessary since the area affected is right on the skin around the meatus of my penis. Anyways, I used the Elidel for almost 12 days (twice a day) without any significant results, so I stopped. What I want to know is this enough time for the Elidel to take full effect? Could it have done any harm to my skin after almost two weeks use, since it didn't really help, if so then what?
Avatar n tn Thanks for the response doctor. However, what effects would Elidel likely have on normal skin, or skin that didn't actually have eczema? I used it for 12 days (twice daily) on already thin skin for what I thought was dermatitis, although after this time I saw no improvement so therefore discontinued its use. Also, in your opinion, was "almost two weeks" too long to use Elidel without beneficial results or what harm could have it done? <Please answer this!
Avatar n tn I have read that Elidel can possibly help to reverse skin atrophy, and definitely does not cause any itself. Is this true, & how so? If not, then what effect would Elidel have on thin skin that has suffered atrophy from the use of strong topical steroid creams?
Avatar m tn are EpiCeram or MimyX (skin barrier creams) as effective as Elidel (skin-selective inflammatory cytokine inhibitor)? I have dermatitis on an area of my body where the skin is already naturally thin(genitals) and am not interested in using steroid creams, so my doctor prescribed elidel. After researching it and finding out that it has a black box warning, I also asked for a prescription for EpiCeram which I am currently using and have used for almost a month now.
Avatar n tn have some additional points to discuss. can i use Elidel on and off basis. my skin condition is better now. can i stop applying Elidel and start it again if slight deterioration shows? moreover i've a daugter of 7 months old. she has also rashes on her foehead and near ears. these are itchy. doctor suggested to appy Zocort for 5 days and it was gone. but again the rashes has appeared. the rashes are not too many but itcy. what should i do? should i reapply zocort for 5 days once again.
Avatar m tn I understand that Elidel does not carry the side effects associated with steroid creams such as skin thinning, but does Elidel have any serious side effects to the skin at all that I should be aware of? Also, if I do give it a try, how long should I expect to see results (a week, 2, a month) and how long is it safe to use it for? Or should I use something else instead?
Avatar n tn What effect would two weeks use of Elidel have on normal skin on the head of the penis? I mean would it do any harm if used on thin skin with no actual dermatitis present; if so, then what would happen?
Avatar n tn I previously used Elidel 1% twice daily for two weeks on sensitive skin. I know what Elidel is and that it's an alternative to steroid creams for treatment of dermatitis & that is why I tried it. When I saw NO results after two weeks, I figured it wasn't going to help so discontinued using it. I want to know if that was too long to use without seeing any improvement (could it have done any harm)?
Avatar n tn When using Elidel, a TCI, commonly used to treat eczema or dermatitis; how long should it take (using twice a day) to start seeing results? I used this for 12 consecutive days with no improvement in my skin discoloration or tenderness, & I was using it on naturally thin skin to treat what I thought was dermatitis. I have heard that it takes longer for Elidel to take effect compared to a low strength steroid cream, but exactly how long should you use it for, without noticing any improvement?
Avatar m tn thank you both I do remember getting the UVB narrowband before while I was taking the Elidel, for some reason I had stopped taking the Elidel and now I'm taking it again but I haven't had the UVB lately, I will ask them to use both of them again b/c my skin cleared up a lil bit when they did both.
Avatar n tn t think steroid creams were appropriate for the area of body that I am treating which has thin skin. Anyways, I have been using the Elidel for about 10 days now, and have NOT seen any noticable difference in my skin condition. I am concerned because it says in the instructions not to use for long term, yet doesn't specify how long it should take to start working. I would really appreciate another doctor's opinion on how long it normally takes for Elidel to clear dermatitis?
Avatar m tn Also he said it appeared to be dermatitis as you stated and I was prescribed elidel since I was not interested in using steroid creams anymore. I have read that elidel is linked to cancer and has a fda black box warning, do you think elidel is appropriate/safe or not? Understand that I am not looking to make things any worse than they have already become from the prior treatment!
Avatar f tn After a month i broke out with atopic dermatitis again but this time it was red itchy bumps so she gave me elidel to use for 3 and a half months.. Whenever i stop elidel there are itchy pimple like rash on my cheeks with a little whithead that is tiny but oozes fluid! Is that a withdrawal from elidel?!!
Avatar m tn Hi there - this is a bit confusing. Elidel is intended to be used to control skin conditions like the ones you mentioned. https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-22383/elidel-topical/details. Both of those conditions can cause your skin to become very red and bumpy. Elidel controls those symptoms, so it is logical that if you reduce or stop using the cream, the symptoms will resurface.
Avatar n tn What is the best topical (over the counter or presciption) for the treatment of sensitive skin damaged by the over use of strong topical medications (specifically potent steroid creams) which happened more than a year ago?
Avatar n tn How many days or weeks should it take to seen an effect with Elidel on thin skin with dermatitis? I used for nearly two weeks (12 days exactly) without any improvement for my so called "dermatitis" diagnosis by a dermatologist. Now I am concerned that I shouldn't have used it for that long without seeing results! Was this too long for me to use Elidel if dermatitis is not really what I have; and if so, what could have this done in terms of damage to normal skin?
Avatar n tn What effects would be likely to occur from 2 weeks use (twice daily) of Elidel on normal sensitive skin, specifically the penis glands? Basically if you were treating this area for what you thought was dermatitis although it turned out not to be anything serious in the first place, then what harm if any could this amount of treatment have done?
Avatar n tn However, I would like to know from another doctor if 12 days was too long for me to use Elidel without seeing any improvement?(I mean could it have done any harm to the skin since it didn't help at all?) It says on the instructions to stop using and contact a doctor if condition does not improve after 6 weeks, however I do not wish to use this for a month & a half and risk serious side effects, if it is unnecessary to do so!

Avatar f tn When she was 3 1/4 yrs (it was winter) her skin became very itchy and looked like prickly heat and none of the soothing cream helped - the doctor prescribed Elidel - it healed the flare ups but I had to use elidel everyday which we did not prefer. We tried homeopathy - her skin did improve - her flare ups reduced - her skin became soft - but did not heal competely - but again when she was 4 1/2 her skin was very itchy especially during the nights though the skin was soft.
Avatar f tn I stopped using elidel because I developed cold sores on the areas around my mouth that I put the elidel on. Every morning I wake up and the skin around my mouth is tight and dry. After I wash my face with cerave cleanser, I pat my face dry and apply vanicream and then vaseline around my mouth. Then I usually see some droplets of liquid forming.
Avatar m tn Today I use Rozex Gel 1% which looks fair for maintenance but does not eliminate the redness, sometime I use Elidel for 102 days, I am affraid to use Elidel because I heard 2 docs telling it can cause cancer, but Elidel evidently remove the redness from the face. Any advice from the lovely people here in this forum will be deeply appericiated.
