Common Questions and Answers about Elidel and cancer

elidel

Avatar m tn I was using elidel(1yr) and analpram(5yrs), pramosone(1yr) and lately nystatin(last one year) for the anal hemmoriods. I was using olux foam(4yrs), extina(1yr) for the scalp irregularities. I do lot of scratching on the anal area and the scalp, due to which these medications regularly mix with the blood and I used to have heavy bleeding due to the scratching. I know that these medicines have steroids. I used analpram from 1998 and that was for five years.
Avatar m tn I am having the anal condition from 1998 and then the scalp condition from 2000. I do lot of scratching on the anal area and the scalp, due to which these medications regularly mix with the blood. Because I used to have heavy bleeding due to the scratching and itching.
Avatar n tn However I did not go and get the prescription because I did some research on Elidel and found that it was related to some cases of cancer. I would really like to use it, or an alternative, but I am worried about the risk of cancer directly related to Elidel.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Elidel, however at first I was concerned with the black box warning and asked my doctor for a prescription skin barrier cream instead called EpiCeram to try first. Anyways, I have used the EpiCeram for a couple months along with a penis vitamin cream call Man 1 Man Oil and Emu Oil also. It seems as though my condition has improved somewhat, but not completely and I am wondering whether or not I should try the Elidel now since I want to get this resolved faster!
Avatar n tn I used Elidel for 12 days for what was thought to be dermatitis on my penis head, although I noticed no improvement after this time and therefore discontinued its use. It didn't seem to have made the skin worse, atleast as far as I can tell! Also, in your opinion, was this too long to use it without seeing any benefit or should I not be so concerned?
Avatar m tn I saw my ENT doc which is very good and he notices I have redness on my face (cheeks), he recommended me to try Elidel. Today I am using Rozex and it helps and prevent Flares but still there is some redness. I am now 6 weeks post EOT, UND and hope to stay UND. Someone has experience with Elidel ? Can it cause any problem to the liver or to the treatement ?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis by a dermatologist and precribed Elidel or (pimecrolimus cream). I was told that Elidel does not have the side effects associated with topical steroid creams such as skin thinning and discoloration. This was necessary since the area affected is right on the skin around the meatus of my penis. Anyways, I used the Elidel for almost 12 days (twice a day) without any significant results, so I stopped.
Avatar f tn After a month i broke out with atopic dermatitis again but this time it was red itchy bumps so she gave me elidel to use for 3 and a half months.. Whenever i stop elidel there are itchy pimple like rash on my cheeks with a little whithead that is tiny but oozes fluid! Is that a withdrawal from elidel?!!
Avatar m tn I have dermatitis on an area of my body where the skin is already naturally thin(genitals) and am not interested in using steroid creams, so my doctor prescribed elidel. After researching it and finding out that it has a black box warning, I also asked for a prescription for EpiCeram which I am currently using and have used for almost a month now.
Avatar n tn I have read that Elidel can possibly help to reverse skin atrophy, and definitely does not cause any itself. Is this true, & how so? If not, then what effect would Elidel have on thin skin that has suffered atrophy from the use of strong topical steroid creams?
Avatar n tn Okay, I know what Elidel is and that it is a non-steroidal treatment to dermatitis. However, I want to know if it thins the skin at all, to any extent? I read on the internet from multiple websites, that TCI's do not cause skin thinning or the side effects associated with steroid ointments, which is why it's usually used. However, one website stated that Elidel does not thin the skin "as much as" steroid creams do! So which is it for sure?
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with dermatitis by a local dermatologist and he prescribed me a topical medication called "Elidel", since he didn't think steroid creams were appropriate for the area of body that I am treating which has thin skin. Anyways, I have been using the Elidel for about 10 days now, and have NOT seen any noticable difference in my skin condition.
Avatar n tn Dr. HHH, I posted several months ago about my concern with topical Elidel and it possibly supressing my immune system so that the OraQuick test wouldn't detect anti-bodies. I tested 3,4,8 months out with the rapid oraquick swab. I also had my doctor do a blood draw and tested EIA 6 months after possible exposure. All test were negative.
Avatar n tn I previously used Elidel 1% twice daily for two weeks on sensitive skin. I know what Elidel is and that it's an alternative to steroid creams for treatment of dermatitis & that is why I tried it. When I saw NO results after two weeks, I figured it wasn't going to help so discontinued using it. I want to know if that was too long to use without seeing any improvement (could it have done any harm)?

Avatar m tn This is the worse it has ever looked. Is there a way to get off of Elidel and not have this redness. My dermatologist says he doesn’t see anything to be concerned about and doesn’t believe there are any bad side effects from using the cream long term.
Avatar m tn Today I use Rozex Gel 1% which looks fair for maintenance but does not eliminate the redness, sometime I use Elidel for 102 days, I am affraid to use Elidel because I heard 2 docs telling it can cause cancer, but Elidel evidently remove the redness from the face. Any advice from the lovely people here in this forum will be deeply appericiated.
Avatar n tn Stop worrying. The reason that elidel is administered topically is that little is absorbed and thus side effects such as immunosuppression are minimized. If you had acquired HIV, your test would be positive. Believe your test results. You do not have HIV and you do not need further testing.
Avatar n tn What effect would two weeks use of Elidel have on normal skin on the head of the penis? I mean would it do any harm if used on thin skin with no actual dermatitis present; if so, then what would happen?
Avatar n tn I want to know if two weeks is considered long-term or short-term use associated with the use of TCI's, specifically "Elidel"? I used Elidel for about 12 days in a row & I'm now concerned as to whether that was too long to safely use considering the warnings on it regarding long-term use. So is 2 weeks considered a short-term use with this topical medication, or what exactly is "short-term use" defined as?
Avatar m tn Also he said it appeared to be dermatitis as you stated and I was prescribed elidel since I was not interested in using steroid creams anymore. I have read that elidel is linked to cancer and has a fda black box warning, do you think elidel is appropriate/safe or not? Understand that I am not looking to make things any worse than they have already become from the prior treatment!
Avatar f tn 19 year old male began having depigmentation around eyes, mouth, side of torso, full thumbs, and on finger tips at 18 years old. Dermatologist and GP think vitiligo but no visible improvement from prednizone 50 mg, betamethasone dipropionate .05% topical, elidel pimecromlimus cream 1%. Biopsy of skin on finger stated “a normal density of epidermal melanocyte which argues against vitiligo. No fungal, organism or increased much were found.
Avatar n tn My doctor seemed unsure as to whether it was going to eventually work or not, and that is why I am asking on here before I continue using. So, would/could Elidel cause ANY damage to sensitive skin after two weeks use such as thinning or any other side effects at all? < Please answer this question specifically! Also, shouldn't it have helped by now after 12 days use, if it was going to work?
