492527 tn?1212179272 I have been taking zoloft for 2 weeks but it is making me tired and haven't seen any change at all. I was thinking about switching to effexor xr. Is this a good choice.
Avatar n tn I'm a stay at home Mom of a 3 year old and since deciding to try for #2, my husband and I thought it would be safest to be med free during my pregnancy, since the effects of Effexor in pregnancy has not really been studied. I took 75mg of Effexor XR for a little over a year for general anxiety. I have been weaning for almost 3 months as gradually as I could. My last weaning was for almost a month at 18.5mg.
Avatar n tn As far as side effects go, I've been doing really well on Effexor XR. I know that unusual dreaming a side effect of Effexor, but I have taken it for 5 months now with night after night of constant dreams. I remember every single dream that I have during the night and wake up exhausted and annoyed. Could this really be a side effect even though I've been on it this long? I can't remember if the dreaming started before or after taking Effexor.
627095 tn?1222040689 You can stop if your really want to and are tough enough to handle the withdrawl. You will need to taper slow.......Very slow over the course of several weeks, maybe even months. Even then your Withdrawl symptoms will still be uncomfortable. Even with a slow taper off method, you can expect to feel like **** for at least 8 weeks after complete discontinuation.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Effexor XR for a total of about three months including the transition from 37.5 miligrams up to 150 miligrams but am weening myself back off of it. I still had some 75 miligrams left so I started taking them about a week ago. I felt a little agitated yesterday morning at work and I almost snapped at someone which just doesn't happen normally or if ever in the 20 years I have been there. Then I forgot to take a pill yesterday.
530150 tn?1284662480 Yes, the doctor is switching me to Cymbalta but only after I am off Effexor XR. He did not give me a detailed plan to discontinue Effexor XR. He told me to do it gradually. I just really need some more advice as to how much to decrease it per day, etc. I've been reading all the horrors of people getting off it and I'm becoming a little shaken by this. Thank you so much for your support.
Avatar n tn I, too, discontinued effexor xr after 2 yrs, and suffered physically from the withdrawal symptoms (about 3 1/2 weeks). I now have almost the same feelings of helplessness, extreme sadness, feeling like I don't belong anywhere on this planet. I've sought the help of a psychologist (not psychiatrist). I hope to get to the root of this. I just don't remember feeling this bad before I went on the drug. I am beginning to think that this is part of the withdrawal. I'm a healthy 34 yr old.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Effexor XR since March, 2005. I started with 75mg and by mid April was up to 225mg. I have recently become unemployed and cannot afford the medication anymore. It's going to cost me $200 a month just to buy the medication. I've told my doctor that I cannot afford it anymore and he just tells me to 'stay on it' but he's not paying for it. I'm going to have to quit cold turkey. I only have three days left of the medication. I'm also on Clonazepam. I take three 0.
607502 tn?1288251140 I was on effexor xr for a while I liked it...I didnt have any weird side affects...I am now taking lithium...I think they might put me back on the effxor too so we can figure it out together I guess...by the way thanks so much for all the help....My docs decided on lithium if you didnt figure that out!
Avatar f tn have a sore throat and my symptoms keep worsening. I am also on Effexor XR and I know I can't take nurofen cold n flu or aspirin... I have some sore throat lozenges at home which have dequalinium chloride as the active ingredient along with ascorbic acid. I have tried searching the internet for possible interactions but I can't find anything in regards to that. Is there something about it I should be worried about? If so, what alternatives would you suggest?

Avatar n tn I have been taking a pretty high dose of Effexor Xr (300 mg daily) for about 14 years. During all of this time I have been for the most part stable. missing a dose has immediate side effects which I actually appreciated because it would remind me to take the drug. Last week I began a new bottle. It took me SEVEN days to figure out what was going on. For the first time in my life, I got a bad batch of drugs.
Avatar n tn My doctor has been weaning me off Effexor XR 150 mg over a 2-week period while at the same time starting me on Lexapro 10 mg a day. The first week I took 75 mg a day of Effexor XR and 10 mg a day of Lexapro; the second week 37.5 mg a day of Effexor XR and 10 mg of Lexapro. The third week I was completely off the Effexor XR and was only taking Lexapro 10 mg a day. I began to feel horrible. I cried non-stop and had electrical shocks going through my head.
Avatar n tn A couple of months ago I was feeling very stressed and anxious, so I decided to start taking lexapro again. (I had been on lexapro and ativan for a couple of months a year ago, and had now been medicine free for several months). I took 10mg before I went to bed and woke up at 3am with heart palpitations, muscle weakness, nasuea, and a severe heat flush. I went to the ER and they said it was a panic attack and gave me xanax to take .5 3x daily.
Avatar n tn Comming of of Effexor,,Effexor XR needs to be done slowly,,I myself just stopped and had symptoms for a little over a weak,,the dizziness,,this wierd buzzing in my head all the time,,,just really wierd things happening. Tell your doc you owuld like some help comming off of this med,,is he the one who put you on it in the first place.
151951 tn?1267991945 I've been on 75 mg. of Effexor XR for about 4 years now. I do realize that this is a very small dose to be on in comparison to some people. A year before that (when I was first diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety/Panic Attacks), my dr. prescribed me Paxil. While on that, I gained upwards of 30 lbs. in only 1 year!? It worked for my attacks, but after a while, it's effectiveness wore off and my body seemed to have plateaued. The weight-gain was out of control, so I asked my dr. what I should do.
Avatar f tn I have pretty bad anxiety and depression. I'm on Effexor XR, 150mg and was on Xanax as needed. I no longer have the Xanax as, for a while there, I wasn't needing it as much. Now it seems like my anxiety is rearing its ugly head again. I can't sleep because I constantly worry and stress over the tiniest little things. I can't relax at all. I'm hesitant to go back on the Xanax. I have a fear of being over-medicated, I guess.
220090 tn?1379170787 I have been taking effexor xr 75 mg daily for 2+ years and have no thoughts of soon discountining it however; I know many that have come off of it and have a really hard time..I would advise you to ask the dr. to help you wean off of it...
Avatar f tn I have been on effexor XR since 2003 and would like to try and wean off. I am currently taking 112.50mg mg a day for anxiety. I don't experience symptoms of anxiety unless in certain situations (flying, traveling long distances, etc.) I am using herbalife as a healthy alternative in my diet and see that they have a supplement called Relax Now. I would like to try it to see if it will work for me just as well as Effexor. I am a little weary of taking medication daily for this long.
Avatar f tn My brother felt really drugged and sick for a few weeks but he was taking the regualr pills. The effexor XR is doesn't make you sick because it's time released and you don't get it all in your system at once. NOw I am a person who is extremely scared of any medication even vitamins so to tell you that I will take effexor and suggest to you it's okay then you should belive it!
Avatar m tn But they wanted to see what had the best effect so they even tried me on Effexor XR, I just switched overnight and actually was okay except for a few minor side-effects. I then had the crazy idea, after five years I decided maybe I should quit this stuff all-toghether? I had been on the Effexor for several months at this point, and felt okay for the most part but didn't want to be dependant on this type of stuff for the rest of my life. I was worried about what the long term effects might be.
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone I yesterday took 1 tablette of Effexor XR 75 mg. EVerything was ok until i start feeling that something is pushing me in my throat, like i want to vomit. It happened 3 hours after i took the medicine. Finally I went to bathroom and made myself to vomit (with fingers). I think thta Errexor is too much for me. DO YOU THINK I CAN FACE WITHDROWAL EFFECT AFTER JUST 1 PILL OF EFEXOR XR if i stop using it? Today I cannot eat anything.
Avatar n tn iv been on effexor xr iv gained 50 lbs.my biggest concern for you is the withdrawl symptoms when stopping it.just 2or3 days without it is hell.moodswings ,headaces, vomiting, flu like feeling, hot flashes. please talk to your doc about that.they dont tell you when you start it.
1110049 tn?1409405744 Not long again I posted that I thought I would explode with anxiety, and now it has gone. Have other people felt this benefit? I know Effexor XR is available in USA but not XL. Is there a difference do you think? I do not want to take the generic again as I am doing so well now.
Avatar n tn I have been on Effexor XR 150mg for over 2 years now, and have decided that it is time to come off of it. It worked wonderfully for my anxiety/depression, and the only lasting side effect I had, was when I took my daily capsule later than usual. I have heard the sensation described as brain shivers and they were hideous! The weight gain, however, is more than I can bear!
Avatar m tn My dr has me on 150mg Effexor XR every morning for my p.t.s.d. Had no idea it was addictive, now im nervous. I also take 100mg of seroquel at night to sleep. As far as nightmares go, i highly recommend asking about Prazosin it is usually for enlarged prostate, i know... i laughed so hard when the dr told me that but IT REALLY WORKS!! I started at 1mg and now i take 2mg and i used to have the most awful nightmares, just living the day my ex tried to kill me every night over and over again.
Avatar n tn While I can't speak directly to Paxil and Beer, I can relate a story about Effexor XR and beer. Quick background: 53 YO Male, currently SSRI free, but took Zoloft for 6 years and Effexor XR for about 6 months. See "Effexor XR Side Effects, withdrawal and alternatives" thread in Archives.
603543 tn?1255298050 Keep in mind that Weith's patent for Effexor XR expires very soon, and in a couple months Effexor XR will be avalibe in a generic form, thus saving you a ton of money for it. You can now get generic Venlafaxine (the active ingredient in Effexor) but most people don't do very well on it because it doesn't have the "sustained release action" that Effexor XR has. Soon Effexor XR will be avalible in generic, just not sure when.
Avatar f tn If you can tolerate Effexor XR, it does help with the hot flashes and mood problems. However, it will give you a horrible headache/ill feeling for the first week. Once you are on the medicine, it works really well. Getting off the medicine is equally horrible. I'm 2 years into tamoxifen, just weaned off Effexor in early March after a year and a half on it. Hot flashes are returning, but not as bad as they once were (at least not yet) and the mood swings are returning (also not as bad...
